[00:00:00] Oh Hey. Woo. You guys did wanna cover this, didn't you? Yeah, we talked about it initially because we've covered all the, like the monster-versed movies on our podcast. And so with it spinning off a TV show, we're like, oh, we gotta be all over that. And then it's just the release schedule and things just didn't work for us, which is a bummer.
[00:01:42] And then I was like, somebody has to cover this.
[00:01:44] And so when you guys took up the helm,
[00:01:46] it was like, yes, somebody's on it.
[00:01:48] But we have to talk Godzilla. It's big. It's powerful. It's impactful. And then we get to this finale and we get to see Kong. So
[00:04:03] of Kurt and Wyatt Russell as the same character and two timelines.
[00:04:04] Amazing.
[00:04:05] And I was like, yeah, I'm cool with that.
[00:04:07] And then yeah, I know there's more people online
[00:04:10] have been complaining about,
[00:04:11] oh, there's too many talking drama things
[00:04:13] and not enough monsters.
[00:04:14] It's like, I'm not one of those people.
[00:04:16] I'm gonna be like, it's legacy of Monarch.
[00:04:19] Like it's about a family dynamic.
[00:04:21] That's the point of this show.
[00:04:23] You just want monsters.
[00:04:25] Like you're in for something different.
[00:04:27] But when you felt again, yeah, contaro fever dreams. It's just right. Pencil shavings in the wind. Yeah, it's yeah. I was maybe in the minority of that one at least. I thought the May backstory was actually really like interested in the way that they
[00:05:41] met and like that stuff.
[00:05:42] I was really into it honestly, but but yeah, I get it.
[00:05:46] Yeah.
[00:05:47] Our biggest complaint with that was it was had nothing to do with May. curtain Wyatt. It was just, you know, so good masterful. Lending was perfect in, in just a representation of Leisha. And some of the cinematography use of using the two of them for for scene transitions was brilliant. Having Kurt Russell turn around and the projection of Wyatt
[00:07:01] Russell's face of the video on top of his face will live in my head forever.
[00:07:05] It's like a really great shot choice.
[00:08:03] is are in your head pulling out all the cool things that you want to happen. And then some of them do.
[00:08:06] I just get excited when that happens.
[00:08:08] Yeah.
[00:08:09] Well, Mark, and even a test to again to this is that over the course of covering
[00:08:13] this, the series, one of my favorite parts about it was as we're going through,
[00:08:17] we're making these different theories, many of which actually came to pass.
[00:08:21] And then the further we would get into the budget really well. It amazes me because you know how big budget this show probably was because of the amount.
[00:09:41] But Apple does have that.
[00:09:44] I tricked you into buying a new phone every year money. it's that orange blue colored game, which is really fun. But yeah, which this goes back to the ending of episode nine, but I remember my jaw dropping and I go, I was like, she's alive. And then it was like, I mean, I kind of figured that was going to happen. Like the entire series, like I was like, I expected it the whole time, but it still somehow was not any less amazing when it happened.
[00:11:01] I was like, yeah.
[00:11:04] That's how we were too.
[00:11:05] Like we were, we've been predicting it forever since she fell down into that. world between worlds kind of idea. And then she said, it's pieces of our world and pieces of theirs. How she knows all this, who knows. But, and she's only been there for what 57 days? 57 days, yeah. But not long enough. If you just kind of, you know, roll with it, you know, because we think about Godzilla versus Kong, the hollow earth we saw is
[00:12:20] different than this. Yeah, well, it's very, it's very vibrant and alive and flush. You know,
[00:13:26] So it could be a possibility of that as being another plateau within Hollow Earth. And not Kong, or Godzilla versus Kong, there's no time travel. Like it's just normal because the gravitation and everything, all of this physics working differently is in Access Monday, it's not in Hollow Earth. Yeah. Which then makes me wonder because yeah, I had kind of a theory of, oh, maybe Hollow Earth
[00:15:02] has even a more intense time imbalance,
[00:15:05] but no, because you brought that up,
[00:15:06] I'd forgotten about that,
[00:15:07] but yeah, that they went there and came back and those our conversations can jump all over the place. You know, talking about this Hollow Earth, Access Monday being different theory now, and we're talking about, well, Hollow Earth maybe doesn't, time doesn't work differently on there. Let's not forget that's also what 2021, I believe, is when Godzilla X-Con happens. So it's a number of years later in the legendary timeline.
[00:16:21] And I don't know if anybody else picked it up,
[00:16:23] but at the end of the episode,
[00:16:25] when the sphere is returning, and stuff as much. I mean, it's been a little bit. I do. They don't. I think they really make sure to mention is that they need a vehicle to get there because you can't just jump in and sort of. But that also might be because there's manipulation involved now. You know, you can't manipulate anything
[00:17:40] if you just fall in.
[00:17:41] Yeah.
[00:17:42] Yeah.
[00:17:44] So yeah, so I think, you know, there's other,
[00:17:47] that's one of the involvement that he had and everything that he was doing. And he had to deal with coming back in his two favorite people. One had died before, but then he comes back and finds out that Bill
[00:19:02] Rand is also dead and her.
[00:19:04] Oh, she is all of them. However, you've talked about this idea of a season two. I think they planted some seeds that if we get a season two, which they feel, I've seen something that they feel confident that it's a very high possibility, that maybe we put together a team and go back for Leisha.
[00:20:25] Yeah. Yeah. It could be R crew that goes back for him. We could still get flashbacks with Wyatt based upon, hey, we're looking at it in Leisha's memory of when he was back there on Access Monday and like during that, those two weeks. And he'll remember key locations
[00:21:40] and then you see his adventure
[00:21:42] and then people coming for him and in his survival
[00:21:45] as a 90 year old man.
[00:22:49] reunion in this episode was one of the most emotional things I've seen in a while like it was I'm just thing there like literally tearing up just like yeah,
[00:23:03] she's learning about bills death that her little boy has grown up and has children or at least this one child that she knows of the time is a lot to take in plus all the time she's missed and I have to give it to Kurt Russell again as you mentioned he's hiding because it's like I'm about to drop prime example of it. And you're right, I'm in my older age, I have become a huge sap. It is incredibly easy to make me tear up and get me choked up. And that scene was one of two to being told that Bill was dead and her son grew up. By the way, this is your granddaughter. Yeah. There were she looks at him and he's like, he is a product of my father's infidelity, all the lies that I've been fed my whole life. And then we go here to the end where she's literally introducing him as,
[00:27:01] and here's my brother.
[00:27:02] And I thought it was, it's really cool.
[00:27:05] Of course, there's a lot more that they're going to have to run through.
[00:28:04] explain that to Emiko himself when he shows up at the apartment packing his thing, saying he's going back to San Francisco.
[00:28:06] And you could see her.
[00:28:08] She is pretty much done with him as it is.
[00:28:11] And he said he was going to start filing stuff for the divorce.
[00:28:15] But then him and Kentaro had that conversation and then later on they had that interaction
[00:28:21] again.
[00:28:22] I wonder, I wonder how the lawyer is going to take filing a divorce after having a death
[00:28:25] certificate.
[00:28:26] Yeah.
[00:28:27] Yeah. you're not, but then you've also been cheating on me. And it's like, it's a lot to deal with. And it's a very mic drop moment. She's like, you need to be in your son's life and you've meant a lot to me and through everything you've done for me you're a good man, but like we're done. It was just great. I just think if you ever meet up with Kate's mom, because Kate's mom already has a guy in the wind
[00:29:41] waiting for her.
[00:29:42] I know.
[00:29:43] I know.
[00:29:44] And I mean, there's a lot of, you know,
[00:29:46] we've talked about it already.
[00:29:47] There's a lot of seeds could get for season two.
[00:31:00] Like that's more of what they can do.
[00:31:01] I could use more Hiroshi to like really build him up
[00:31:07] as a character. Well, I feel like it's almost, you know, they talk a lot about how Bill Randha kind of went the tin hat route. I feel like Hiroshi almost kind of did the same thing. I feel like there was some kind of switch that because we talked about this last episode as well. We made the theory that the nurse that Lee Shaw holds hostage is potentially Emiko.
[00:32:20] I thought so too.
[00:32:21] I think it is.
[00:32:22] Absolutely.
[00:32:23] I think it is.
[00:32:24] And then Hiroshi says in this episode, would you have with Bill. You know, Bill went through the same thing. He had a theory, wanted to prove it, and he kind of drove him crazy. I'm not defending Hiroshi in any way by saying that. But I feel like Hiroshi had his Bill random moment.
[00:33:42] And to had something that just made him kind of think about nothing else but that. six years or something like that, or if you say 58 years because they're two years later from the time that they all dropped in anyway to. The access Monday, access Monday, I'm sorry for forgetting Monday, access Monday, welcome to Access Monday on e Network. The new song, I access Monday.
[00:35:03] Just spin off a blue Monday.
[00:35:07] She's gonna start feeling like John C. Riley, who Oddly comforting at the same time to make her really not feel like she missed too much. You know, mentioning that TVs are flat and everybody's got one, you know, gizmos and like telephones do a lot more. We went to the moon, but I missed that one too, because, you know, I was here. You know, it is like... You played it down. Really?
[00:36:20] You did.
[00:36:20] Like, it's all down.
[00:36:21] You know, but other than that, you know, like conflicts, resolutions, mothers, fathers, families, I'm like, you got choked up at a Godzilla television show. Yes. Happens. It's how it is. Did you watch it? It's good TV. It's about a lizard. It's so good. I did find it interesting, though, that Kaco did have the Titan phone
[00:37:41] as we've been so eloquently calling it.
[00:37:43] Yeah.
[00:37:44] Which is the one that came down with Shaw.
[00:37:47] Yes. where he could have just sat down at the Monarch desk and continued on with that work. And he just said no and walked away from it because he felt strongly about doing the right thing, or at least doing this thing. And that's kind of an arc for his character too, because I felt like he was this Monarch devotee
[00:39:00] right from the very beginning.
[00:39:02] And I feel like he's gotten to know the wrong way and we even said that was most likely the case. And now he is this guy who knows that monarch's legacy is the randas and the randas are monarch's legacy like they're each other's legacy. These are the people that need to be involved and he sides with them in the
[00:40:20] He he walks away from monarch. How cool was it that his office was?
[00:40:26] Bill ran his office. Yeah think we need Sarah Zawa, we need Sarah Zawa to make the appearance because yes, I understand. The way this season ends, it makes it look like Monarch is the villain and Apex is the savior and we know from the future of the legendary timeline that is not the case. It is quite the opposite. Monarch, I think at this point is still trying to
[00:41:43] find itself, which is why it seems like it Kong, which we're still years away from, which they skipped over King of the Monsters, but maybe not. It's like before Jurassic Park became Jurassic Park, they put stuff on Skull Island. Because again, it's been a while since I've watched the movie. So I was like, oh, King of the Monsters. And I was like, oh, well, they're already on Skull Island with this.
[00:43:02] No, no, King of the Monsters is King of the Monsters.
[00:43:04] They are currently in 2017.
[00:43:06] King of the Monster stuff because Verduo and Monarch is paying attention to all these like eminent monster threats all over the map. And I was like, well, that sets up King of the Monsters. Although, like, Marifar, Mika, her character and King of the Monsters has this other device that also lures them out and makes it worse.
[00:44:21] I don't know if they'll tie into all that or not.
[00:44:23] Well, look, when Carfoants came out,
[00:44:26] they were freaking the size to tie it into new Empire but they've still got plenty of years of stories. could be wrong I'm not really sure no I believe it one other thing I just found is according to this wiki Verdugo was actually reprimanding Tim in episode three and mentioned and questioned him and said're helping in relief efforts after Titan attacks. I'll tell you one of the things I would like to see getting back to season two and seeing them come back to Monarch, I'd like to see Tim take over Verdugo's position. That would be fun. Yeah. I wasn't sure what to think of his character at first.
[00:48:20] There's one thing I think this series has done well
[00:48:22] is if you have never seen any of the movies at all,
[00:48:24] and this is your first introduction to things, podcast, go back and watch the other movies. Well, I talked about it last week. You know, Mark, I mentioned it to you last week on New Year's Eve. I was with when I was with my friends, my friend TJ approached me and said, like, my monarch is so good. And then he mentioned that he's never seen any of the movies.
[00:49:40] I was like, well, first off, you need to go watch the movies.
[00:49:43] Yeah.
[00:49:44] I was like, second off, but that's what American production. Um, I didn't love it. So I think yeah, I feel like we need Matthew Broderick in season two as well. Let's know. Dr. which is why, which is what makes what they did with the effects even bigger because They're only giving us the monster here and here for certain times is good and then extending the story and the plot and the drama and you know the character building.
[00:52:21] Yeah, well even even the fight which we, gotta get in there. And the special effects were great. Like it looked like it could have fit
[00:53:40] in any of the legendary movies.
[00:53:42] Yes.
[00:53:44] You know, they-
[00:53:45] Cause there was a little bit of me.
[00:53:47] I was like, is that Rodan?
[00:53:48] And I was like, no, we just closed this chapter
[00:55:00] by ripping off his damn wing
[00:55:03] and tossing him aside. the things I want. I mean, if we're moving into the era of King of the Monsters, there are so many great Titans that are in that movie that only get like a couple of frames and just like a little bit of a... Let's start playing with those and get a little bit more of those Titans in season two if we can. That would be nice. Yeah, I agree. I'm for that, but also at the same time,
[00:56:20] let's not put too much of a focus on the Titans either.
[00:56:23] I still wanna keep the focus on the people.
[00:56:26] Yeah, because I think some it. The idea of anything a lot of it and I've set up before in Japan, a lot of it went for in the very beginning. Godzilla was marked as a serious commentary on what happened after the war. Then eventually it led into these kind of like, oh, let's make it a monster movie.
[00:58:43] for the merchandise than the television. It is, because nobody's running out to target
[00:58:46] or going on Amazon to buy the Kentaro figure.
[00:58:50] I know.
[00:58:51] You don't want him with his little artsy flair.
[00:58:54] I want the lee shot and the young lee shot, Dad.
[00:58:57] I would actually get the dual lee shot figures.
[00:59:03] I would get that.
[00:59:05] But the Kentaro figure that comes with the ticket this. If it's a kid, they're going to lose it. Those little things are going to be gone. It's just what's going to happen. Yeah. But getting back to the fights and everything, you know, of wanting the monster fights to, I think one of the best parts about this was when I was watching that fight between Godzilla and the eye on dragon, knowing full well, this is not nearly the last time just the idea of Shaw bringing them back to the vessel, the ship, whatever the thing that they took down operation. What was it? Just like left my head, but whatever. Oh, hold on. I have it.
[01:01:42] Hourglass, our glass, right? Operation Aragas monarch symbol itself? I did. I thought about that last week and I didn't bring it up. I think that's probably why it was named Operation Hourglass is because the sideways hourglass is the symbol of monarch. So I think that it. I was so excited. I'm trying to see how well is this TVC's area in the United States,. It has to be a season two. I would not be surprised after the release of it. When is it gonna be released on Friday? So I would not be surprised come that day, as soon as it drops, they would give some indication of, yes, we're in the process of writing, or it may be, well, they would be in the process of writing
[01:05:44] because they have to the next minute moment. It gives us a, okay, this is the focus of season two now.
[01:07:00] Yeah, it shifts the focus rather than keeps us
[01:07:03] in immediate suspense.
[01:07:06] Right.
[01:07:07] And I like that because I get to wrapped up see him fall. That's what I was thinking originally. What if Le Shaw is alive in God's elax come? That'd be interesting. Could be. Which then makes people be like, well, now we need to find out how in season two of Monarch. Right. Yeah. Yeah. That's another
[01:08:21] thing. If they don't give a season two announcement with the actual airing of this finale,
[01:09:22] then we can watch it and take more notes better. But as soon as it's available digitally,
[01:09:25] be looking for a Run for your Life's coverage of that movie.
[01:09:27] It's kind of like...
[01:09:29] Absolutely.
[01:09:29] It's kind of cool that you guys have covered the movies.
[01:09:32] We're covering the series.
[01:09:33] So, and having you guys on for the finale
[01:09:36] is kind of us passing the baton to you
[01:09:40] when Godzilla X Kong comes out.
[01:09:42] Right.
[01:09:42] And then once you do your coverage of Godzilla X Kong,
[01:09:45] that will most likely be before season two of Monarch. I think we're- I think we're- I think we're- I think we're- I think we're- I think we're- I think we're- I think we're- I think we're- I think we're- I think we're- I think we're- I think we're- I think we're- I think we're- I think we're- I think we're- I think we're- I think we're- I think we're- I think we're-
[01:11:00] I think we're-
[01:11:01] I think we're-
[01:11:02] I think we're-
[01:11:03] I think we're-
[01:11:04] I think we're-
[01:11:05] I think we're-
[01:11:06] I think we're-
[01:11:07] I think we're-
[01:11:08] I think actually by the time this is out
[01:12:21] that the Megan episode will be up so people can go check
[01:12:24] that out. That'll be the most recent.
[01:12:26] So yeah, so I mean. But there was actually there's a movie that you guys did cover that is actually it's anniversary today which is January 10th, 2024. It's 27 years ago that the relic came out.
[01:13:43] Oh, we haven't covered it yet.
[01:13:45] Oh, I did not cover the relic yet. No.
[01:13:48] Way to go, obviously. No. But, Paken Davenie, thank you guys so much for coming on. We knew we had to have you guys on to talk about the series at some point and I think the finale was the perfect time. Yeah, perfect. Absolutely. That's the first thing I said, you know, I thought of after watching the finale is,
[01:15:03] this is the perfect episode for us to come on for.
[01:15:06] Yeah. We enjoyed the episode. As we mentioned earlier in the conversation note, this is a separate segment. Mark and I are actually, uh, Paken Daphne have actually left the recording at this point as we're recording this a couple days later. Uh, and as we were hoping, or as we thought and predicted, there's still no news yet of
[01:16:20] a season two for Monarch.
[01:16:23] Nope.
[01:16:24] Uh, the show runner apparently has come out. There he is in all his glory. Love that and can't wait to hear your podcast. So I hear all the bits that I missed. Well, hopefully we covered a lot of it for you, Adam, in our coverage of it.
[01:17:43] Yeah, and thanks for listening.
[01:17:45] Yeah, of course.
[01:17:46] Yeah.
[01:17:47] Thank you for that. Oh brutal first fifteen minutes for poor cake. Oh, I mean it really seemed as bad as I, you know, guilt and loss of letting her in as the big bad for the last episode, and that makes sense because the Ion Dragon attacking the USS Lawton is what kickstarted Bill Randa's a connection in there. I mean, we'll see some of the characters later on. Still stick by my tin foil hat theory. That tin is the long lost son of Bill Miranda. Because he walks in, he sees Hiroshi watching the video, which is another great call back to that.
[01:23:00] And he's just kind of like looking at it.
[01:23:01] And even Hiroshi's like, I appreciate your dedication
[01:23:04] to keeping my dad's story alive, his of beetles. Look, we knew that was a far way. We knew that was a bad batch. But as far as apex being on Skull Island, because they experimented with monkeys in the past, I absolutely believe that's why I picked. That's why apex was that skull island. I believe that but as far as them experimenting
[01:24:21] on any of calm related apes,
[01:24:26] the only one that they mean, that's why it's called Skull Island. That's where he lives. He's not like Godzilla or the Iron Dragon and goes back and forth between the two worlds. He is a titan of our world. World, yeah, and only that island. You can see it on his face during the Godzilla versus Kong movie,
[01:25:42] and how the amazement of it.
[01:25:44] And then when he does see Sam, for the feedback, not just for tonight, but for every episode that you left us. Yes, very much appreciated. Yeah. And definitely leave feedback for the movie
[01:27:00] when we cover them run for your lives too.
[01:27:02] Check out shortly after,
[01:27:06] sometime after the movie releases, They weren't there for hours. They were there for about a week or so. But how much of that week does he remember? Oh, this actor's playing in Keko is really good. I mean, I'm feeling emotional with her. Wow. Meanwhile, back at Monarch, Tim is limping. He's alive. Wow. But he wants to investigate the signal that somebody, if the vehicle that Sean, his team, we're in is still here. How did Sean get back? Oh, Kaco doesn't want to leave. But Kate convinces her to go, oh, anyway, nice. Oh, they learned a couple of Titans, all right. We better get back in that vessel. Oh, it just bit Godzilla's neck
[01:29:40] and now Godzilla's throwing it around like a rag doll.
[01:29:44] So they're back, but how many years have passed?
[01:29:46] Because this looks like another Monarch facility. Oh, something like the cowboy. The cowboy, that is it. Yep. That's right. I forgot. That's what it was. That's a great movie. I need to rewatch that. It's a member. Yosie veils. God, yeah, I need to rewatch that again at some point. But thank you, Steve, for that feedback as well.
[01:31:01] And hey, look, no more for the Monarch coverage for now. For now. Yeah. At the very least, we know we've got another movie coming in God's Relax Con, which we've talked about already, which will be covered on Run for Your Lives. But the Monarch coverage is going to take a break until until
[01:32:21] season we're going to get a season two.
[01:32:24] I'm still fully convinced that we're basically in the middle of doing what if season two coming up would be the losers I keep talking about it and we I have a record I just have to edit over to podcastica.com and check out all of the great stuff that they have over there. As this, as it was known from the beginning, this monocovrage was a joint venture in both Wilhelm, my Wilhelm podcast and the house podcast, I got podcasts over at podcastica. So if you're a Wilhelm subscriber, I encourage you to go over podcastica.com,
[01:35:02] go over to podcastica.com.
[01:35:04] Sometimes my tongue moves faster than my mouth
[01:35:07] and I get Ted Lasso over and revisited, which is another joint podcast that goes slash Wilhelm podcast that's ongoing and so many other podcasts. Strange indeed, just podcastica.com one more time, go over there and check it out. If you're a podcastica listener,
[01:36:21] I encourage you to check out my podcast, Wilhelm.
[01:36:25] Wilhelmpodcast.com, easiest way to find everything there. as well. Thanks. Special thanks before we wrap this up. Of course, one more thank you to Apple and Apple TV for allowing us to cover the series, sending us the screeners so that we had advanced copy of it. Thank you to Daphne and Paik for joining us. Thank you to Rob Moda for coming on earlier this season. Thank you to Jason for allowing this to be a part of Podcastica as well as Wilhelm.
[01:38:44] see what they have to do with when they do Godzilla X Kong, definitely when they cover Godzilla minus one,
[01:38:47] see what their opinions are about that.
[01:38:49] So I highly recommend everybody else check that out
[01:38:52] when they come back.
[01:38:53] Cool.
[01:38:54] And last but not least, thank you, of course,
[01:38:56] to everybody who listened over the course of our coverage
[01:38:59] of this over the past nine weeks.
[01:39:01] Covering a television show on a weekly basis
[01:39:03] is something Will Home was never done before.
[01:39:05] So this was a new venture.
[01:39:06] This was something I really wanted to try. just like this Monarch coverage was, but for sure Will Home will be covering fallout when it begins April 12th. So if you're a fan of the show, or if you're interested in the show and you wanna follow along with our coverage, just know we'll be covering it. Any final notes from you, Mark, before we wrap this up and head on outta here?
[01:40:23] Nope, not at all, but I would like to encourage everybody
[01:41:25] and new lists. So whether you're listening on Apple or on Spotify or on Google or Amazon, wherever it is, you listen, if you have the ability, go online, leave a review for the
[01:41:29] podcast, even if you're just giving it a star review and not writing anything, those reviews
[01:41:35] greatly help us out. So I would say word of mouth, as Mark said, and reviews. Those
[01:41:41] are our final two pieces of, of those are our final two requests.
