[00:00:00] Oh!

[00:00:29] Welcome to Wellhelm, I am your host, Ben Beck.

[00:00:31] And this is the second annual Oscar episode of The Podcast.

[00:00:37] Last year we did it for the first time

[00:00:39] and we're gonna continue on with the tradition

[00:00:41] of bringing some guests to make some Oscar predictions

[00:00:44] as well as talking about some of our favorites

[00:00:46] of the Oscar nominated films for 2023

[00:00:50] for this year's ceremony.

[00:00:52] And I need my guests to do that.

[00:00:53] They are returning from last year's annual Oscars episode.

[00:00:58] Please welcome back to The Podcast,

[00:00:59] pick Alan and Brandy Bryant.

[00:01:01] Woo-hoo!

[00:01:03] Yay!

[00:01:04] Woo!

[00:01:05] If I'll be honest,

[00:01:06] I've been looking forward to this freaking Christmas.

[00:01:09] Like, I'm so excited.

[00:01:11] Like, I had so much fun last year that I've really,

[00:01:14] I've been excited.

[00:01:15] I've been looking forward to it,

[00:01:16] try those messages.

[00:01:17] Like we're doing it again this year.

[00:01:18] Please, please, please.

[00:01:19] Um...

[00:01:21] It's, I mean, it was fun.

[00:01:23] Oh yeah, so I was like watching these.

[00:01:24] Like, oh, I wonder if he's gonna pick this.

[00:01:26] Like, as I was watching it, I was super excited.

[00:01:28] Yeah.

[00:01:29] Well, I mean, you two were the two people

[00:01:30] that I have in mind to do this every year.

[00:01:32] And I'm glad that you guys were willing to come back on,

[00:01:35] not only willing to come back on, but excited

[00:01:37] to come back on.

[00:01:39] Cause there's been a lot of good movies

[00:01:42] that came out this year.

[00:01:44] We're gonna talk about some of them.

[00:01:45] Mm-hmm.

[00:01:47] Yeah.

[00:01:47] And I'm very interested, you know,

[00:01:49] to see where we all fall.

[00:01:51] And so we're gonna do things a little differently

[00:01:53] this year.

[00:01:55] We did it a little bit last year.

[00:01:56] We were made our predictions

[00:01:57] and then quickly mentioned our favorites.

[00:01:59] But this year we're gonna do both.

[00:02:01] We're gonna talk for sure.

[00:02:03] For each of the 10 categories

[00:02:04] we're gonna cover, we're gonna mention our prediction

[00:02:06] for which movie is going to win in the category.

[00:02:09] And then we're gonna mention our favorite

[00:02:10] of the category cause they may differ.

[00:02:14] So but before we get into that,

[00:02:17] oh, and we're also gonna keep things as spoiler free

[00:02:19] as possible because I know not everybody

[00:02:21] has had a chance to see all of these movies.

[00:02:24] So we're not gonna dive into deep discussions

[00:02:26] about the movies.

[00:02:27] We're pretty much just gonna make our predictions

[00:02:29] maybe say loosely why

[00:02:31] and then we'll move on to the next category.

[00:02:33] But before we do that,

[00:02:34] Pake, I know you are someone who

[00:02:37] tries their hardest to complete the full watch.

[00:02:41] I'm a dev racer of every movie that is nominated.

[00:02:47] So I got, I know the answer to this already

[00:02:49] but for the listeners at home,

[00:02:51] what is your percentage completion at this point right now?

[00:02:55] 100% I finished last night.

[00:02:58] I managed to finally get it done.

[00:03:02] I was worried this year,

[00:03:03] this year was a little difficult.

[00:03:04] There's some like distribution stuff

[00:03:06] and some of the movies were really,

[00:03:09] we're really difficult but I did what I had to do sometimes.

[00:03:11] I made it work.

[00:03:13] But yeah, I got 100%.

[00:03:15] Again, I didn't know if I would but I did.

[00:03:16] So at least two years in a row now I finally done it.

[00:03:19] So that's the charm.

[00:03:21] Maybe if I'm doing this podcast,

[00:03:23] it also gives me enough ump to get the entire list done

[00:03:27] and cross that finish line.

[00:03:30] Yeah, there are, you mentioned the distribution issues.

[00:03:32] There are two movies this year

[00:03:34] that are in the categories that we're covering

[00:03:37] that I did not get the chance to see

[00:03:39] because of distribution issues

[00:03:41] they either have not been put out yet for streaming

[00:03:45] or there's a possibility

[00:03:47] they might not for a while.

[00:03:49] Yeah, I've learned a lesson for anybody

[00:03:51] who does what I do or wants to attempt

[00:03:54] to like watch everything.

[00:03:56] Next year, I'm already knowing like as soon as

[00:03:58] the nominations are announced,

[00:03:59] anything that's on that nomination list

[00:04:01] that is currently still in theaters

[00:04:03] as soon as possible,

[00:04:04] I'm gonna make like that week

[00:04:06] is like go to the theaters

[00:04:07] and watch as many of them as I can

[00:04:09] before they leave theaters

[00:04:10] and then don't get released anywhere

[00:04:12] in time for the Oscars.

[00:04:14] Yeah.

[00:04:15] Brandy, how about you?

[00:04:17] How many of the Oscar-9ner-oriented films

[00:04:19] whether they be the 10 categories that we covered

[00:04:21] or not, how far would you say

[00:04:24] you got percentage wise in the movies that you watched?

[00:04:28] From I will say out of 100,

[00:04:30] I would say I probably watched about

[00:04:33] 80, 90% of them for sure.

[00:04:35] That's still a good amount.

[00:04:36] That's good, yeah.

[00:04:37] Yeah.

[00:04:38] Well, I think it always helps

[00:04:39] that like so many are like doubled

[00:04:41] you know what I mean like the categories

[00:04:42] it's like the same movie over and over again

[00:04:44] so I'm like alright this isn't too bad to watch.

[00:04:46] Like you can watch these like 50 films.

[00:04:49] Yeah, I mean that yeah we got a couple movies

[00:04:52] that have multiple people in the category

[00:04:54] that were nominated which is always

[00:04:58] makes it a little easier when we're watching.

[00:05:01] I think I got about 85 to 87% of the way through

[00:05:07] with there's some of the smaller ones

[00:05:08] like live action short international films

[00:05:12] that I still need to watch

[00:05:14] and I might not get to watch them

[00:05:16] until after the Oscars but I definitely will.

[00:05:18] I will hit that 100% mark

[00:05:19] it probably just won't be a little bit after the Oscars.

[00:05:24] Right.

[00:05:25] So but with that being said,

[00:05:28] let's dive in we're gonna cover 10 categories

[00:05:31] of the Oscars this year.

[00:05:33] Those 10 categories being original score,

[00:05:35] cinematography, visual effects,

[00:05:38] animated feature film, best director,

[00:05:40] actress in a supporting role,

[00:05:42] actor in a supporting role,

[00:05:43] actress in a leading role, actor in a leading role

[00:05:45] and then best picture.

[00:05:47] So we're gonna work our way up to best picture.

[00:05:52] So let's kick it off first with original score.

[00:05:55] We have the nominees,

[00:05:57] Laura Cartman for American Fiction,

[00:05:59] John Williams for Indiana Jones in the Dial of Destiny,

[00:06:02] Robbie Robertson for Killers of the Flower Moon,

[00:06:04] Ludway Gorenson for Oppenheimer

[00:06:06] and Jersken Federick for poor things.

[00:06:11] Brandy let's start with you.

[00:06:13] What is your,

[00:06:15] give me your favorite and your prediction

[00:06:17] for winning the category?

[00:06:19] Okay. So my favorite is poor things

[00:06:22] and then I think the winner is gonna be Oppenheimer.

[00:06:26] Okay.

[00:06:27] I think that's a pretty strong choice.

[00:06:30] There's gonna be a lot of Oppenheimer mention

[00:06:33] in this podcast.

[00:06:34] I'm sure I have no doubt.

[00:06:37] Pick what about you, favorite and prediction?

[00:06:42] Yeah, honestly the exact same.

[00:06:43] My personal choice is poor things.

[00:06:46] I just love it.

[00:06:47] It's very abstract avant-garde kind of like sounds

[00:06:51] throughout everything,

[00:06:52] the like bellas theme coming back.

[00:06:54] It's again, I think like last year my pick.

[00:06:56] It's the one that I can actually think

[00:06:58] of a piece of music that returns over and over

[00:07:01] and over again that I just really connected to

[00:07:04] and then prediction.

[00:07:06] Yeah, Oppenheimer.

[00:07:07] I'm going with that as well.

[00:07:10] Without, I mean it's gonna like spoil a lot of what

[00:07:13] we're gonna have conversations about today

[00:07:15] but it's, I feel like Oppenheimer is kind

[00:07:18] of gonna be the everything everywhere this year

[00:07:19] and sweep a lot of stuff so.

[00:07:21] Yeah.

[00:07:22] Well, yeah.

[00:07:23] Well it's one of the reasons why we're changing things

[00:07:25] up a little bit this year and doing the favorites too

[00:07:27] because like you said last year

[00:07:29] everything everywhere all at once swept almost every cat.

[00:07:32] I think actually every category it was nominated for.

[00:07:37] And I feel we're gonna get something similar

[00:07:38] with Oppenheimer as well but you know,

[00:07:41] it'll be interesting to see if some of our favorites

[00:07:43] differ from that prediction as well.

[00:07:47] As for myself original score,

[00:07:49] I did really enjoy the port thing score.

[00:07:52] However, I'm a massive fanboy of John Williams.

[00:07:55] So, I mean I had to go with Indiana Jones

[00:07:58] and the dial of Destiny is my favorite.

[00:08:00] It's an iconic tune.

[00:08:03] It just hits on the nostalgia.

[00:08:05] So that was my favorite.

[00:08:08] As for predicting the win, it's Oppenheimer.

[00:08:11] I mean, it's another score that I've listened to.

[00:08:13] It is in my Spotify playlist

[00:08:15] because it is an incredible score.

[00:08:17] It's good because it mixes a very classic kind of sound

[00:08:22] with some of the playing with like Luke Nuclear.

[00:08:25] There's almost kind of like an electronic dubby

[00:08:28] kind of like whoa, whoa, that kind of mixes in

[00:08:30] with classic stuff that it is cool.

[00:08:32] It is cool.

[00:08:33] Yeah.

[00:08:34] So of course, yeah, we're all on the same page

[00:08:37] then Oppenheimer is going to be

[00:08:39] the predicted winner for original score.

[00:08:40] Yeah.

[00:08:42] Going next then into cinematography.

[00:08:44] We have the films El Condé,

[00:08:47] Killers of the Flower Moon,

[00:08:48] Mischro Oppenheimer and Port Things.

[00:08:52] Pake, let's start with you on this one.

[00:08:55] Port and predicted to win.

[00:08:57] All right, welcome to Deja Vu.

[00:08:59] My personal choice, Port Things.

[00:09:03] Like a lot of, yeah, the cinematography

[00:09:05] a lot of those really weird kind of

[00:09:07] ethereal shots and wild stuff.

[00:09:10] But then prediction Oppenheimer.

[00:09:13] Okay.

[00:09:15] Brandy, how about you?

[00:09:18] I feel like a broken record same.

[00:09:19] My favorite was Port Things

[00:09:21] and then I think the winner is going to be Oppenheimer.

[00:09:23] But what I really liked about Port Things

[00:09:25] was that how it's so in your face

[00:09:28] with like the cinematography and the brightness

[00:09:29] and the color of certain things

[00:09:31] that like the way that it moves the,

[00:09:32] it felt like with it the story moved as well

[00:09:35] with how like the lighting and all went.

[00:09:37] Which was really cool.

[00:09:38] Yeah, yeah.

[00:09:40] I'm a little different.

[00:09:42] My favorite and predicted winner were both Oppenheimer

[00:09:45] for myself on this one.

[00:09:46] I did enjoy the cinematography of Port Things.

[00:09:50] There's a part of me that actually really enjoyed it

[00:09:52] for Killers of the Flower Moon as well.

[00:09:55] I wanted to give a little bit of a nod to Mischro

[00:09:57] but there's something about the

[00:10:01] I mean, I enjoy films that take the risk

[00:10:04] of doing the black and white.

[00:10:05] But the, I don't like the films

[00:10:09] that do the standard deaf now.

[00:10:11] Like I feel like we're missing so much

[00:10:15] when films do that.

[00:10:17] So it kind of takes me out of it a little bit.

[00:10:19] It's one of the reasons,

[00:10:20] it's only one of the reasons why I hated

[00:10:23] the Zack Snyder cut of Justice League.

[00:10:27] Just doing standard deaf for Zack Snyder.

[00:10:30] That was just an ego trip.

[00:10:31] Anyway, I'm off topic.

[00:10:34] But Oppenheimer man,

[00:10:35] I thought it was really well done,

[00:10:37] especially considering the fact that

[00:10:40] Christopher Nolan did this all practical effects.

[00:10:43] There were no special effects in this movie whatsoever.

[00:10:46] I thought that was beautifully done

[00:10:48] and handled incredibly well with the movie.

[00:10:49] So I had to give it to,

[00:10:52] I had to give it to Oppenheimer

[00:10:53] for both favorite and predicted winner.

[00:10:56] Nice.

[00:10:57] That takes us then into visual effects,

[00:11:02] where the nominees are to the creator,

[00:11:04] Godzilla minus one,

[00:11:06] Guardians of the Galaxy Volume three,

[00:11:08] Mission Impossible, Dead Reckoning Part One

[00:11:11] and Napoleon.

[00:11:13] I'll kick us off for this one,

[00:11:15] making the rounds as to go around.

[00:11:18] I had to eliminate Godzilla minus one

[00:11:21] only because I have no doubt it's a spectacular movie.

[00:11:24] I've heard great things.

[00:11:25] I didn't get the chance to see it.

[00:11:28] So I kinda had to eliminate that one.

[00:11:31] I couldn't give it any kind of consideration

[00:11:34] towards this one,

[00:11:35] which is sad because it might have changed up everything.

[00:11:40] My favorite for this one

[00:11:41] only because I'm a sucker for these movies,

[00:11:43] Mission Impossible, Dead Reckoning Part One.

[00:11:46] I thought I love action movies like this.

[00:11:49] I think they're incredibly well shot,

[00:11:50] especially the stunts.

[00:11:52] So I had to give it my favorite for that one.

[00:11:54] As for winner, predicted winner of this one,

[00:11:59] I gave the nod to the creator.

[00:12:02] I think that's a strong contender to win with.

[00:12:05] But anytime you have these sci-fi kind of movies like this,

[00:12:11] especially ones where you're taking a human

[00:12:13] or a robot and making them look human

[00:12:15] because they're played by a human.

[00:12:17] You know, you're hitter-miss with those.

[00:12:23] And I think the creator was a hit when it came to that.

[00:12:26] So favorite Mission Impossible, predicted winner

[00:12:29] is the creator.

[00:12:31] Pick, how about you next favorite and predicted winner?

[00:12:34] I love that you mentioned the creator.

[00:12:36] It's not my pick for favorite,

[00:12:38] but I actually saw this movie even before it was nominated.

[00:12:41] And I was happy to see it got nominated because yeah,

[00:12:44] it was great.

[00:12:45] But my personal pick is, again,

[00:12:48] like you kind of said with Mission Impossible

[00:12:49] just a big fanboy, Guardians Three.

[00:12:53] Marvel stuff, that's my pick.

[00:12:56] I mean, just having these cybernetic animal hybrids

[00:13:00] and all this like, it's all in space

[00:13:02] and it's all this stuff.

[00:13:03] It's so many, it's like all visual effects

[00:13:05] and for it to really feel together.

[00:13:09] Marvel does a great job with that.

[00:13:10] So okay, so you're all about animal torture for the outside.

[00:13:15] But my prediction, I'm actually gonna go

[00:13:17] even with distribution issues and like theater stuff.

[00:13:21] It's with Toho and to finally have something

[00:13:25] as long standing as Godzilla nominated.

[00:13:29] I think Godzilla minus one is gonna get the Oscar for it.

[00:13:33] Yeah, like I said, I'm really bummed

[00:13:35] that I didn't get the chance to see it before this

[00:13:36] because it might have changed my opinion on these.

[00:13:39] So you're just bumming me out even more.

[00:13:43] Especially considering that from what I'm seeing,

[00:13:47] there's a strong possibility for this,

[00:13:49] for that movie and the other movie,

[00:13:51] which is in the next category.

[00:13:52] We may not be seeing distribution on these

[00:13:54] for a couple of months.

[00:13:56] Right.

[00:13:56] Really?

[00:13:57] Yeah, which is really bumming me out.

[00:13:59] But Brandy, let's over your way,

[00:14:03] favorite and predicted winner for the category of visual effects.

[00:14:07] So don't tell Kristen, but my favorite

[00:14:10] is the Guardians of the Galaxy.

[00:14:12] Just maybe skip that part for talking to her.

[00:14:15] But that was my favorite because I thought they,

[00:14:18] I mean, I was sad by the ending of it,

[00:14:19] but I thought the story in itself was really good

[00:14:22] and I believed everything that was going on.

[00:14:25] But I actually think, and I think again too,

[00:14:27] I am a fan girl with these movies just because

[00:14:30] I feel like they've been around forever.

[00:14:31] I want and I think Mission Impossible is finally gonna win.

[00:14:35] Ooh, okay.

[00:14:37] All right, that's an interesting prediction

[00:14:39] and that kind of, you know, I would not be upset if you are right.

[00:14:45] We'll see Scientology buying an Oscar.

[00:14:47] Right.

[00:14:48] I know.

[00:14:49] It would be like,

[00:14:51] to be honest, I was both, I was like, well,

[00:14:53] they're both really sad with the stories

[00:14:55] and all on how that goes,

[00:14:56] but we're gonna give it some crew.

[00:14:58] I thought what happened.

[00:15:00] No love for Napoleon, this category, which I thought looked good,

[00:15:06] but yeah, just didn't blow me away.

[00:15:08] Blue lot of horses away now.

[00:15:13] See,

[00:15:14] pick up out the torture porn.

[00:15:18] It's all about the animal torture for visual.

[00:15:20] No, I'm not a big fan of Napoleon.

[00:15:25] Let's then move on to the next category,

[00:15:28] animated feature film.

[00:15:30] The categories are the boy and the heron,

[00:15:33] elemental,

[00:15:34] pneumonia, Robert, Robert dreams.

[00:15:37] Robot dreams.

[00:15:39] Who's Robert?

[00:15:40] Robert dreams.

[00:15:41] It's a great guy.

[00:15:42] Robot dreams and Spider-Man across the Spider-Verse.

[00:15:48] Brandy, we're gonna take it back to you

[00:15:49] to kick us off with this one,

[00:15:50] favorite and predicted winner.

[00:15:54] All right, so my favorite was actually was Spider-Man.

[00:15:58] I will throw it out there that I didn't get to see

[00:16:01] the entire movie I know, you're supposed to say

[00:16:03] I was your favorite, but from what I've seen of it,

[00:16:05] I was like, I would watch this whole movie over in Obergam.

[00:16:08] And then I think the winner is gonna be boy and the heron.

[00:16:11] So you've had the opportunity to see it.

[00:16:15] Not the full thing though, I've seen most of it.

[00:16:19] So Brandy making partial predictions.

[00:16:22] It's all right.

[00:16:23] There's no rule against it.

[00:16:24] We've never established rules with it,

[00:16:26] so that's all we're always.

[00:16:27] You're right, but it's interesting

[00:16:29] because I did say there are two movies

[00:16:31] that I have not had the chance to see

[00:16:32] because of distribution and the boy and the heron

[00:16:34] is the other one.

[00:16:35] Yeah, it's the Japanese distribution

[00:16:37] is just like hard to come by,

[00:16:39] even that digitally or yeah.

[00:16:43] But, Paik, how about you for animated feature film?

[00:16:46] All right, I'm gonna start with Spider-Man likely

[00:16:49] could have been both of those for me,

[00:16:52] but there's one that was a little bit more impactful

[00:16:55] that I will pick as my favorite.

[00:16:57] And then as far as for my prediction,

[00:16:59] I think Spider-Man is still a little bit

[00:17:01] too comic bookie for people.

[00:17:03] So can I make the prediction as the one that was impactful?

[00:17:07] Sure, yeah.

[00:17:08] If I had to predict...

[00:17:12] Oh, it could be one of two.

[00:17:14] I'll go with my first, I'll go with my first instinct.

[00:17:16] I'm gonna say robot dreams.

[00:17:19] No, I did like robot dreams.

[00:17:20] It's interesting, very, I'm not gonna spoil anything,

[00:17:23] but we're gonna have like adult oriented

[00:17:24] ending for animated movie.

[00:17:26] But it was interesting.

[00:17:28] So my personal favorite is actually pneumonia,

[00:17:30] which I've never even heard of

[00:17:31] until these nominations.

[00:17:33] And then I went and checked it out obviously for this.

[00:17:35] And it's just, it's a really important story

[00:17:39] for what we need now today,

[00:17:40] but told with a lot of humor and a lot of stuff.

[00:17:42] So I enjoyed that.

[00:17:44] That's my personal favorite.

[00:17:44] No, prediction, again, it's this longstanding

[00:17:48] somebody who's finally, like,

[00:17:49] I mean they've gotten nods, I believe in the past,

[00:17:51] but it's Miyazaki.

[00:17:53] Miyazaki carries a name with him for sure.

[00:17:55] And so I am also predicting the boy and the heron to win.

[00:17:59] Okay, yeah, see, and that's the other of the two movies

[00:18:03] that I have not seen.

[00:18:04] So unfortunately, I can't say whether or not

[00:18:08] that would be my prediction to win.

[00:18:10] It could have been had I seen it just like Godzilla,

[00:18:12] however, go with my fame and my prediction,

[00:18:15] they're both the same.

[00:18:17] Maybe this is just the fanboy in me

[00:18:19] that's speaking this spider man across the spider verse.

[00:18:24] I was actually talking to Brandy a little bit about this

[00:18:27] before we started recording.

[00:18:30] I did not watch Spider-Man across the universe

[00:18:32] when it first came out.

[00:18:33] I did not watch it for the first time until last night.

[00:18:36] Oh wow.

[00:18:38] And I, one, I'm very regretful that I waited that long

[00:18:44] to watch it, but I'm also kind of glad

[00:18:48] that I waited and made it the last

[00:18:49] of the animated feature films

[00:18:51] because I would have been comparing everything to Spider-Man.

[00:18:55] Had I watched Spider-Man first, that movie was,

[00:18:59] I found that movie absolutely incredible.

[00:19:01] It really blew me away.

[00:19:05] And so my prediction and favorite

[00:19:08] is going to go to Spider-Man across the spider verse.

[00:19:12] But again, that could be because I just haven't seen

[00:19:14] the boy and the heron, they might have changed.

[00:19:17] Now, let's go into the next category.

[00:19:20] We're going into the big ones now towards the end.

[00:19:25] Well, we're still on the first half of this,

[00:19:26] but next category is best director.

[00:19:30] We have Justine Triett for Anatomy of a Fall.

[00:19:33] Martin Scorsese for Killers of the Flower Moon.

[00:19:35] Christopher Nolan for Up and Himer.

[00:19:38] Your Gothimos for Port Things.

[00:19:41] I think that's how you pronounce it.

[00:19:43] Apology, your ghost if you're listening and I didn't.

[00:19:46] And Jonathan Glazer for the Zone of Interest.

[00:19:50] Paik kick us off for this one, prediction and favorite

[00:19:55] of the category.

[00:19:57] Favorite, I think I'm going kind of an underdog one on this.

[00:20:02] But I'm going with the only woman nominated

[00:20:06] in this category here, Justine Triett, Anatomy of a Fall.

[00:20:10] I thought that it was just very well done, directing wise.

[00:20:15] A lot of things were really well done about that movie.

[00:20:18] But as far as just really being able to follow this,

[00:20:21] this kind of linear story of what's going on

[00:20:23] and playing it from like different perspectives,

[00:20:25] bouncing back and forth, there's a lot of great director

[00:20:28] choices in there.

[00:20:29] So I'm going with Anatomy of a Fall from my pick.

[00:20:32] However, prediction, we're back on kind of the

[00:20:36] what seems to be the giant beast of this year.

[00:20:42] And I'm going Christopher Nolan on Up and Himer

[00:20:44] as getting the win from my prediction.

[00:20:46] Okay, Brandy over to you, favorite and prediction

[00:20:50] for the category.

[00:20:52] So my favorite was Greta Gerwig.

[00:20:55] Oh wait, she wasn't nominated.

[00:20:57] I forgot.

[00:20:58] So I guess if I had to go with somebody else,

[00:21:01] it was my favorite.

[00:21:02] I would do, I really enjoyed this movie.

[00:21:04] I thought it was really well done.

[00:21:06] And like it's one of those movies you can't even fully talk about

[00:21:08] because it gives so much away.

[00:21:10] But I really liked John Glazer for Zone of Interest.

[00:21:14] Thought the movie was still interesting in its own, right?

[00:21:17] But I do think the winner is again,

[00:21:19] going to be up in Himer, Christopher Nolan.

[00:21:21] Brandy pulling out the snubs already

[00:21:25] and Greta Gerwig.

[00:21:25] I actually, I have no, I'm kind of with you.

[00:21:28] I feel like she was a pretty big snub

[00:21:30] that she was not nominated for this category.

[00:21:35] So because I mean, we'll talk about that as we get further on.

[00:21:40] So as for myself,

[00:21:42] I agree with you, Peyton, Enemy of a Fall was just,

[00:21:45] I thought it was very well done.

[00:21:49] And Zone of Interest I thought was very intriguing as well,

[00:21:52] especially from that point of history.

[00:21:54] I thought that was really a really great story.

[00:21:56] However, my favorite and my prediction

[00:21:59] are both the same for this one.

[00:22:00] And that man,

[00:22:01] and I look back at my love of film

[00:22:05] and I never thought I would ever say

[00:22:07] Christopher Nolan movie was my favorite of the bunch

[00:22:11] because I'm very hit or miss on Christopher Nolan,

[00:22:14] but I mean, it's a sure fire hit with Oppenheimer for me.

[00:22:18] So I had to go with Oppenheimer

[00:22:20] for both my favorite and predicted winner of the category.

[00:22:24] I man, Oppenheimer was the first of most of these movies

[00:22:27] I saw in theaters

[00:22:29] and I remember just walking out of the theater being,

[00:22:31] oh, this is gonna sweep the Oscars.

[00:22:35] And I think I'm still right on that prediction.

[00:22:39] But yeah, I mean,

[00:22:41] and it's hard not to give a not-discourse AZ as well

[00:22:46] because he's an incredible director.

[00:22:48] You know, with such prestige, but yeah,

[00:22:51] Nolan's my favorite for this one and my predicted winner.

[00:22:54] So I gotta go with Christopher Nolan for Best Director.

[00:22:58] Next category, actor in a supporting role

[00:23:01] we have Sterling K Brown for American Fiction,

[00:23:04] Robert De Niro for Killers of the Flower Moon,

[00:23:06] Robert Downey Jr. for Oppenheimer,

[00:23:09] Ryan Gosling for Barbie and Mark Ruffalo for poor things.

[00:23:14] I'm gonna kick off this one

[00:23:17] and I'm gonna say just get it out of the way now,

[00:23:19] my prediction for the category,

[00:23:22] RDJ is gonna take this one for Oppenheimer.

[00:23:25] He does put on an incredible performance.

[00:23:28] However, as much as I love RDJ,

[00:23:32] he was not my favorite of the category.

[00:23:35] It was close.

[00:23:37] My favorite of the category and it's not Ryan Gosling,

[00:23:41] sorry Ryan.

[00:23:44] There's a lot of.

[00:23:46] It's awesome.

[00:23:47] I'm just noticing there's three Marvel actors in here.

[00:23:50] No, yeah, well is there?

[00:23:53] No, there's two.

[00:23:55] Deneer was a DC actor.

[00:23:58] Gosling I don't think he's done anything Marvel yet.

[00:24:00] Anyway, my favorite for this category

[00:24:06] is Sterling K. Brown from American Fiction.

[00:24:09] It is a phenomenal performance.

[00:24:12] He is just an incredible actor,

[00:24:17] no matter what he does,

[00:24:19] whether it's American Fiction or Brooklyn 9.9.

[00:24:24] He is like, he's just a phenomenal actor

[00:24:27] and for him to take on this role

[00:24:29] as the homosexual brother was just incredible.

[00:24:34] And yeah, my favorite was Sterling K. Brown for the category.

[00:24:41] Paik over to you favorite and predicted winner.

[00:24:44] All right, well I'll do what you did is prediction out of the way

[00:24:47] because it feels obvious Robert Dene Jr.

[00:24:50] In Oppenheimer I feel is definitely gonna get it.

[00:24:52] But for favorite man,

[00:24:54] Sterling K. Brown was a close close close second for me.

[00:24:58] Because yeah, he was incredible in that movie.

[00:25:02] Definitely like his character was very important to American Fiction.

[00:25:06] However, my favorite because it just felt like something so new

[00:25:10] and so crazy in wild for this actor.

[00:25:13] Mark Ruffalo in poor things is my favorite.

[00:25:15] I knew you were gonna say that.

[00:25:16] Just to see him so unhinged and so whitey

[00:25:18] and so it's great.

[00:25:20] I loved what he did with that role.

[00:25:22] Ruffalo is actually in filly right now

[00:25:24] filming a new HBO series.

[00:25:26] Oh nice.

[00:25:27] So I'm actually kind of hoping

[00:25:29] to maybe get a little time with him at some point while he's here.

[00:25:32] So I'm gonna try but we'll see if that pulls out

[00:25:34] because he's just an incredible performer.

[00:25:37] And I agree with you to see him in that kind of role

[00:25:40] was definitely a big change.

[00:25:42] Yeah.

[00:25:43] But Brandy, how about you for actor and supporting role prediction

[00:25:46] and favorite?

[00:25:48] I was gonna say I feel like I just bounce off either one of you

[00:25:51] with all your stuff were like on the same wavelength.

[00:25:53] So obviously Robert Dene Jr. is going to win.

[00:25:56] We all know that.

[00:25:57] I too was super surprised by Sterling K. Brown

[00:26:02] like watching American fiction.

[00:26:04] I don't know why I was so shocked by him

[00:26:06] but he has and I won't give it up

[00:26:08] but he has this one line on the porch

[00:26:10] that he says to his brother as girlfriend

[00:26:12] and he walks away.

[00:26:13] And I was just like, oh, and Matt

[00:26:16] I was like you got it for me.

[00:26:17] That whole thing is wrapped up in that.

[00:26:20] He, you know, I mentioned Brooklyn 9.9 just for fun

[00:26:23] but it's so funny because after American,

[00:26:25] after I watched American fiction,

[00:26:27] the first thing I did was I went back

[00:26:29] and I watched the episode The Box of Brooklyn 9.9

[00:26:33] which is the only episode of Brooklyn 9.9

[00:26:35] that Sterling K. Brown was in

[00:26:36] and he got nominated for an Emmy for that episode.

[00:26:41] Really?

[00:26:42] You didn't know that?

[00:26:44] No.

[00:26:46] It's a total bottle episode.

[00:26:47] You don't need to know anything about any of the characters

[00:26:51] other than Perolta Holt and Sterling K. Brown's character.

[00:26:54] So if you get the chance, if you're not a Brooklyn 9.9 fan,

[00:26:58] just go and I forget what season it is.

[00:27:00] I think it's season four.

[00:27:02] Just look for Brooklyn 9.9 The Box

[00:27:04] and it's a bottle episode with just those three characters.

[00:27:08] It is so good.

[00:27:10] It is such a great episode.

[00:27:12] It's funny and Sterling K. Brown is amazing.

[00:27:14] Like I said, so much so he got nominated

[00:27:17] for guest appearance for an Emmy.

[00:27:19] He's so good for that episode.

[00:27:22] Moving on to the next category.

[00:27:26] We have actress in a supporting role.

[00:27:28] nominees are Emily Blunt in Up and Himer,

[00:27:31] Danielle Brooks for the Color Purple,

[00:27:33] America Ferreira for Barbie,

[00:27:35] Jody Foster for Niyad

[00:27:36] and Divine Joy Randolph for The Holdovers.

[00:27:41] Brandy, we're gonna kick it off with you

[00:27:43] on this one, favorite end prediction for the category.

[00:27:48] So this is like my category.

[00:27:50] Like this is why I watched all these movies

[00:27:52] because I root for all these women so hard.

[00:27:54] But for me, this out of all of the categories,

[00:27:57] I think for me was like the toughest one.

[00:27:59] Like for me, these women were all so stacked

[00:28:01] and so good in their specific roles.

[00:28:04] But if I had to pick my favorite

[00:28:07] cause I wanted them to be different.

[00:28:08] My favorite is obviously America Ferreira in Barbie,

[00:28:11] her woman monologue, just.

[00:28:13] Yeah.

[00:28:14] For me to the floor and it was brilliant.

[00:28:16] And but I'm really, really, really rooting for

[00:28:19] and I hope the winner is Divine Joy Randolph.

[00:28:24] I love tur in this, I love tur in this.

[00:28:28] It's, I remember watching The Holdovers

[00:28:30] and I kept looking at her and I'm like,

[00:28:32] I know her from somewhere, I know her from somewhere,

[00:28:35] where the hell do I know her from?

[00:28:37] She's the detective and only murders in the building.

[00:28:41] Yeah, so that's where I ended up knowing her from.

[00:28:45] But, Pake, how about you, your favorite

[00:28:49] and your predicted winner for the category?

[00:28:52] This is one of the few instances

[00:28:55] where they are one and the same.

[00:28:57] I, my favorite is the one that I think will win

[00:28:59] and I'm very happy about that.

[00:29:00] And I hope it happens.

[00:29:02] Quick shout out to Danielle Brooks though

[00:29:03] for the color purple cause that was incredible.

[00:29:05] Runner up but yeah, Divine Joy Randolph

[00:29:08] is my pick for personal favorite

[00:29:10] and prediction to win.

[00:29:12] I'm not very familiar with her.

[00:29:14] I haven't seen only murders.

[00:29:16] But, man, she's just from the very beginning,

[00:29:19] like again not spoiling things with the movie

[00:29:20] but as soon as you realize kind of her character's connection

[00:29:24] with what's going on, I was like, damn,

[00:29:26] this is gonna be an emotional like gut punch

[00:29:28] with her character, I knew something was coming

[00:29:31] and then you get like a very emotional scene

[00:29:32] with her later on in the movie

[00:29:34] that you're like that's that, that's right there

[00:29:35] and I can pinpoint it.

[00:29:36] And going like that, like I'll say like kitchen scene

[00:29:39] and not tell you anything else about it

[00:29:41] is being like at that moment, I was like

[00:29:44] and the Oscar goes to like I'm ready.

[00:29:47] Right.

[00:29:49] I am, you know what?

[00:29:51] I'm right there with you, Paik

[00:29:52] my favorite and predicted winner.

[00:29:54] I know we said like it's gonna be a big year

[00:29:56] for Oppenheimer and no disrespect to Emily Blunt

[00:29:59] cause she's fantastic in Oppenheimer

[00:30:01] but my favorite and predicted winner for the category

[00:30:05] is also Divine Joy Randolph from the Holdovers.

[00:30:07] That is, it is such an incredible performance.

[00:30:12] I will say the reason why I didn't pick Emily Blunt

[00:30:14] to win this one is because again,

[00:30:16] I think she's great in Oppenheimer

[00:30:18] but I think her moment where she really shined

[00:30:22] and I felt like she really gave a standout performance

[00:30:25] was a little too late into the movie.

[00:30:30] Whereas Divine Joy Randolph was great

[00:30:34] from start to finish and put on a stellar performance.

[00:30:37] She did such an amazing job in setting up

[00:30:41] this distraught nature to the point

[00:30:45] where when it does finally come to a culmination

[00:30:47] as you mentioned Paik, the kitchen scene.

[00:30:50] It is so and then from that point

[00:30:52] until the end of the movie is just, it's amazing.

[00:30:56] So I'm really porn for her to win the Oscar on this one.

[00:31:01] And I just wanna say too what I love

[00:31:03] I think she's so subtle like a lot of her lines

[00:31:07] is like it besides the kitchen scene itself

[00:31:09] is delivered in almost the same way.

[00:31:10] Like, it's not repetitive

[00:31:12] but like it's just normal talking

[00:31:14] but her subtleties and her looks and her winks

[00:31:16] and her like smiles I think also like for Pepele's

[00:31:19] her character which I love.

[00:31:21] Yeah, I mean there's not to spoil anything about it too

[00:31:25] but you know there's a scene following that kitchen scene

[00:31:28] where the three of them are outside

[00:31:30] and there's a little bit of an altercation

[00:31:32] between the two male leads.

[00:31:35] And you know she turns to Paul Giamatti's character

[00:31:38] and says something that's totally not about herself.

[00:31:43] You know it's more about them

[00:31:44] and I'm like, like Jesus Christ for less woman

[00:31:46] to be going through everything she's going through

[00:31:48] and still have this care for other people.

[00:31:51] That's like that's an incredible person.

[00:31:54] So yeah I'm really porn for her to win

[00:31:58] also so that Steve Martin and Martin Short can say

[00:32:01] and the Oscar winning divine joy Randolph.

[00:32:04] In the next season of Holy Murders in the book.

[00:32:09] That takes us now into actor in a leading role

[00:32:13] and we have for the nominees for the category

[00:32:15] Bradley Cooper in Maestro,

[00:32:17] Coleman Domingo in Rustin, Paul Giamatti

[00:32:20] in the Holdovers, Kylian Murphy in Oppenheimer

[00:32:23] and Jeffrey Wright in American Fiction.

[00:32:26] Pepe will start it off with you on this one

[00:32:30] favorite and prediction to win.

[00:32:33] All right, I get quick shout outs for those who

[00:32:36] just like edged out.

[00:32:37] Um, Giamatti was great was fun.

[00:32:40] Part of me is like man, I hope the best for Domingo

[00:32:42] because he'd paid his dues with fear for so long

[00:32:45] and he's earned it.

[00:32:47] So Coleman Domingo is a close but for me

[00:32:50] my personal choice, Jeffrey Wright in American Fiction.

[00:32:54] Just I love Jeffrey Wright from Westworld

[00:32:56] to what if to everything else he's done

[00:32:59] but to see him play like this kind of character

[00:33:02] then has to play up another character

[00:33:04] and just you can switch it on and off.

[00:33:06] It's incredible.

[00:33:07] He's hilarious but also has a really great

[00:33:09] like heartfelt and emotional and like vulnerable moments

[00:33:13] that I think he was incredible.

[00:33:15] But then I'm going to go with the obvious

[00:33:17] on the prediction, I think it's another pin

[00:33:21] in the hat of Oppenheimer and Kylian Murphy is going to take it.

[00:33:24] Yeah, I'm, I get that.

[00:33:27] Brandy, how about you favorite

[00:33:30] and predicted winner for the category?

[00:33:33] So actually these two,

[00:33:37] like my favorite is obviously called Giovanni

[00:33:40] for the whole diverse

[00:33:42] and I do think the winner is going to be Kylian Murphy

[00:33:45] but I won't be shocked if it's not.

[00:33:47] I won't be shocked if he, if Paul Giovanni wins

[00:33:50] because like they're so neck and neck

[00:33:51] with like the stuff they've already won

[00:33:53] and why they want it.

[00:33:54] I honestly don't know who's going to be the winner in this

[00:33:57] but I went with the obvious choice of Oppenheimer.

[00:34:00] Okay, I said at the top of the conversation

[00:34:04] that there's one category that I feel like

[00:34:05] is the most stacked category of any category

[00:34:08] and this is it.

[00:34:10] Yeah, actor and a leading role to me

[00:34:12] is one of the most stacked categories

[00:34:14] where you have five absolutely incredible performances.

[00:34:18] Bradley Cooper, I mean the moment I, what was that?

[00:34:22] No, I just said okay, sorry, continue.

[00:34:24] I was listening.

[00:34:25] Bradley Cooper,

[00:34:26] I mean the moment I heard he was playing Leonard Bernstein

[00:34:29] I was like, okay, he's going to get an Oscar nomination for that

[00:34:32] even before I even saw the movie.

[00:34:35] Paul Giovanni is absolutely amazing in the whole overs

[00:34:39] especially after you learn what I to speak into.

[00:34:45] Coleman Domingo, Pake, you hit the nail on the head

[00:34:48] he went from one of the worst projects ever made

[00:34:52] in fear of the walking dead

[00:34:53] to being an Oscar nominated actor.

[00:34:57] And I want to say one, one of the biggest things

[00:34:59] I think about this category is the fact that

[00:35:01] I think Rustin is a snub for best picture.

[00:35:06] I think Rustin deserved,

[00:35:08] I think it's an incredible movie and I think it deserved

[00:35:10] a very good movie.

[00:35:11] I think he deserved to be nominated for best picture.

[00:35:15] I mean there's only 10 spots

[00:35:17] but I could see one or two movies in those 10

[00:35:19] that I would have knocked out for Rustin.

[00:35:22] Yeah, for sure.

[00:35:24] However, so we'll go with the very clear obvious

[00:35:27] prediction. I think this is Killian Tear.

[00:35:30] He's going to win.

[00:35:32] However, Brandy, I do kind of agree with you.

[00:35:35] I would not be surprised if there's an upset in this category.

[00:35:40] But if there's an upset, I think it's going to go to Jeffrey

[00:35:44] Wright for American fiction.

[00:35:46] Really?

[00:35:47] Yeah, I'm with Pake.

[00:35:49] That was my favorite of the category.

[00:35:51] I think he just puts on, I mean he's in Rustin too.

[00:35:55] Which he puts on it.

[00:35:57] Well that was what was funny.

[00:35:58] I made these little connections because I was like,

[00:36:01] you have Rustin which, you know,

[00:36:03] this guest stars you have Jeffrey Wright and Coleman Domingo.

[00:36:06] Coleman Domingo is also in the color purple

[00:36:09] in Jeffrey Wright then with American Diction.

[00:36:10] Yeah, so it's like, yeah.

[00:36:14] Yeah, there's a lot of connecting tissue

[00:36:16] when it comes to these movies.

[00:36:18] But yeah, I think Jeffrey Wright was just

[00:36:20] flipping phenomenal man in American fiction.

[00:36:23] It is the one movie out of most of these movies

[00:36:26] that really surprised me as to how much I just loved

[00:36:30] the movie.

[00:36:33] So yeah, so my predicted for predicted winner

[00:36:35] for the category is Killian Murphy for Oppenheimer

[00:36:38] but my favorite of the category it was close

[00:36:40] because Paul Tiamati is pretty great

[00:36:42] in the holdovers.

[00:36:43] I guess so good on that.

[00:36:45] But Jeffrey Wright for American fiction was my favorite.

[00:36:48] That takes us now into actress in a leading role

[00:36:52] in which we have Benning in Niyad,

[00:36:54] Lily Gladstone, Killers of the Flower Moon,

[00:36:56] Sandra Holler, Anatomy of a Fall,

[00:36:58] Carrie Mulligan in Mistro and Emma Stone in Poor Things.

[00:37:02] And I will kick off this category.

[00:37:05] No Oppenheimer nomination for this one.

[00:37:08] So we might be in many different places

[00:37:12] for this category.

[00:37:13] Yeah.

[00:37:13] We will see when it comes to the end.

[00:37:16] I'll go with my favorite first.

[00:37:18] And it's a weird movie, but man,

[00:37:23] I loved her performance.

[00:37:24] Emma Stone in Poor Things was just,

[00:37:28] she's so good in anything that she does,

[00:37:31] whether it be like dramatic movies like this

[00:37:33] that are just very weird and kind of off the wall

[00:37:36] to like zombie land where she's just a ton of fun.

[00:37:40] Yeah.

[00:37:40] So I had to give my favorite to Poor Things.

[00:37:43] Although I will say Carrie Mulligan in Mistro

[00:37:46] was pretty high on my list as well.

[00:37:49] I was not a fan of Mistro honestly,

[00:37:51] but she carried most of the time.

[00:37:53] Well that's why she's yeah.

[00:37:56] That's kind of the reason why she's pretty high on my list

[00:37:58] is because if it wasn't for her,

[00:38:00] I don't know if I would have enjoyed that movie

[00:38:02] as much as I did.

[00:38:03] Yeah.

[00:38:04] My favorite however, for the winner of the category,

[00:38:10] or my prediction for the winner of the category

[00:38:12] just because it was an amazing performance,

[00:38:14] literally Gladstone, Killers of the Flamengoon.

[00:38:16] I think she's gonna take the category.

[00:38:18] I think she's gonna get the Oscar this time around.

[00:38:22] Paik, how about you?

[00:38:24] Predicted winner and favorite.

[00:38:26] This one was kind of stacked for me mostly.

[00:38:28] There was a lot of great ones like you said,

[00:38:30] Emma Stone had such a unique and interesting performance.

[00:38:34] Annette Benning, I mean the stuff she put herself through,

[00:38:38] I mean a lot of it made up of everything but still

[00:38:40] because it's like really put yourself into that place.

[00:38:43] And then another connection thing, we'll talk about it.

[00:38:46] Sandra Hewler by the way, lead actress in two movies

[00:38:49] that are both in the best picture nomination

[00:38:51] because she was also in zone of interest lead there.

[00:38:55] But my choice, my personal favorite and prediction to win.

[00:39:00] Another one that's it's the same.

[00:39:02] I'm going with the Lee Gladstone.

[00:39:03] Okay.

[00:39:04] Killers of the Flamengoon.

[00:39:05] Just, I don't wanna like you avoid spoilers too much

[00:39:08] but there's definitely scenes where she is in a particular state

[00:39:14] physically that just some of those scenes as hard

[00:39:17] as they are to watch.

[00:39:18] You're like my God that she is able to like pull that off

[00:39:22] and like it's convincing.

[00:39:23] And you're like, oh no this is bad.

[00:39:25] So I think she did an incredible job

[00:39:27] and I don't know a lot of people talk about her like

[00:39:29] it's like, oh it's like her like big debut.

[00:39:31] I mean she's done films and stuff before

[00:39:33] but like this is clearly the biggest thing she has done

[00:39:36] and she is blowing up because of it.

[00:39:39] I think she did an incredible job with something like this.

[00:39:41] Yeah, I mean this is one of those roles too

[00:39:44] that when you're asked to be the lead in a Scorsese movie

[00:39:48] it's like you, well one you don't say no

[00:39:51] no matter what your career looks like.

[00:39:53] If someone if Scorsese asks you to be the female lead

[00:39:55] in his movie you say yes

[00:39:58] and you have to imagine that unless you do a horrible job

[00:40:01] you're going to get some kind of award nomination from it.

[00:40:04] Maybe not an Oscar but you're going to get some nominations

[00:40:08] and she pulled it off.

[00:40:09] She was incredible.

[00:40:11] But Brandy how about you favorite

[00:40:12] and predicted winner for the category?

[00:40:16] So I will say sometimes I think movies

[00:40:21] are maybe too smart for me

[00:40:23] or I just didn't have anyone to like discuss them with.

[00:40:25] I know that's a weird way to start this

[00:40:27] but my favorite actress who liked for that was Emma Stone.

[00:40:32] The movie I have a whole lot of opinions on

[00:40:36] but I just don't think I understand him and his vision

[00:40:39] that's what I've decided.

[00:40:40] I just don't get him

[00:40:41] but I thought she did a really great job

[00:40:43] in the whole scheme of things

[00:40:46] and I will say I do think Lily Gladstone will win.

[00:40:50] I also have my own opinions on Killers of the Flower Moon

[00:40:54] but I thought she did a very, very good job.

[00:40:58] Okay so your prediction is also Lily Gladstone

[00:41:01] for Killers of the Flower Moon.

[00:41:04] Yeah.

[00:41:05] Okay.

[00:41:06] All right, that takes us into the final category

[00:41:09] and this is the big one.

[00:41:10] This is the best picture category

[00:41:12] and I'm going to say because it's 10 movies instead of

[00:41:16] it's 10 instead of five

[00:41:19] if you want to you can list two favorites for this one.

[00:41:24] In addition to your predicted winner

[00:41:28] because we all know what we're going to say

[00:41:30] for predicted winner of this category.

[00:41:32] So to kind of draw out the conversation a little bit

[00:41:36] if you have more than one favorite other than that one

[00:41:39] you can list it as well.

[00:41:42] But nominees for best picture are American fiction,

[00:41:46] anatomy of a fall, Barbie, the holdovers,

[00:41:51] Killers of the Flower Moon,

[00:41:52] Mischro, Oppenheimer, Pass Lives, Poor Things

[00:41:57] and the Zone of Interest.

[00:42:01] Brandy we're going to kick it back to you

[00:42:03] in the rotation your predicted winner for the category

[00:42:07] of an timer and one or two favorites outside of that

[00:42:14] for the category for you.

[00:42:16] You said the holdovers right?

[00:42:18] I did, yes.

[00:42:19] Okay, I was afraid that I read that wrong

[00:42:21] and that's what I picked for my favorite

[00:42:22] and I picked the wrong category somewhere.

[00:42:24] I'm going to say well now we know

[00:42:25] what one of Brandy's favorites are.

[00:42:26] Obviously.

[00:42:28] Yeah, if you couldn't tell.

[00:42:30] So that's one of my favorites.

[00:42:32] I wish that was like a different year than Oppenheimer

[00:42:35] and then go figure as well.

[00:42:36] I actually really loved Barbie for like all that it entailed

[00:42:41] and all the moon empowerment

[00:42:42] and like I just thought it was such a good movie

[00:42:44] but obviously the winner is going to be Oppenheimer.

[00:42:48] Okay, and did you say another favorite

[00:42:51] other than the holdovers or Barbie right?

[00:42:54] Yeah, Barbie.

[00:42:55] Yeah.

[00:42:57] Yeah, I'm surprised you didn't mention the snub

[00:42:59] of actress in a leading role.

[00:43:04] No, I didn't think we should talk about it, I guess.

[00:43:10] Paik, how about you predicted winner

[00:43:12] and one or two favorites for the category?

[00:43:14] One or two favorites.

[00:43:15] I got some other like honorable mentions real fast too

[00:43:17] if I can but

[00:43:20] there's a good way to go for it.

[00:43:21] Yeah, no, because I wanted to definitely give some

[00:43:23] like even though they went over all favorites

[00:43:25] like anatomy of a fall again

[00:43:26] because it was something very unique.

[00:43:29] Like I know I heard some people being like

[00:43:31] always just a extended CSI

[00:43:34] and I was like no, I was on the edge of my seat the whole time

[00:43:37] and I never heard that.

[00:43:39] Yeah, and then past lives

[00:43:40] I wanted to give a little nod too

[00:43:42] because it was such a simplistic slice of life kind of movie

[00:43:45] that really just even though it wasn't like super happy happy

[00:43:49] it also just made me feel really good.

[00:43:52] But no, my two favorites, the holdovers

[00:43:55] such a fun movie, such an incredible

[00:43:57] like that might become like a Christmas movie

[00:44:00] like rotation, like a holiday film to like return to a lot.

[00:44:03] But my personal favorite overall was American fiction.

[00:44:06] It was just the humor, the satire,

[00:44:09] the like social commentary

[00:44:12] but then also just some of the like very emotional moments

[00:44:16] with some of the things going on with family members

[00:44:18] and some of the storylines.

[00:44:19] I just think it hit on everything that I love

[00:44:21] whether it's comedy, drama,

[00:44:23] things like that.

[00:44:25] It fired on all cylinders

[00:44:26] so American fiction is my absolute favorite.

[00:44:28] But my up and highmer award goes to you.

[00:44:32] Yeah, obviously I feel like this is up in Heimers year

[00:44:36] just kind of sweep most everything.

[00:44:41] Even though it wasn't really a favorite of mine

[00:44:43] but knowing how like the academy works

[00:44:46] and how a lot of things are

[00:44:47] I'm like it's up in Heimers year.

[00:44:49] I mean, I will say like I just love the fact of saying

[00:44:53] like in the up and highmer goes to you.

[00:44:58] It's so ridiculous about it.

[00:44:59] It's always so sad to me though

[00:45:00] when it's like this huge movie like that

[00:45:03] that was in the theaters for like nine months

[00:45:06] is up against some smaller

[00:45:08] even other like huge budgeted movies

[00:45:10] it always makes me a little sad.

[00:45:11] Yeah.

[00:45:12] And I'm like if it was a different year

[00:45:14] this would be great.

[00:45:16] Yeah and I'm kind of with you on that too

[00:45:18] because I have my favorite's a fake you and I

[00:45:21] are pretty much on the same wavelength

[00:45:23] when it comes to our favorites and the predicted winner.

[00:45:27] Of course my predicted winner is gonna be up in Heimers

[00:45:30] I think it's just gonna take as many categories

[00:45:33] as it possibly can.

[00:45:35] However, my favorites I did enjoy up in Heimers.

[00:45:37] I will say that.

[00:45:38] I thought it was an incredible movie.

[00:45:40] It is of movie reviews that I've done on this podcast

[00:45:43] that is the first movie in a long time if ever

[00:45:45] I had given five out of five stars.

[00:45:48] So it is well deserving of the accolades that it's gotten

[00:45:51] and I did really, really enjoy it.

[00:45:54] However in watching some of these other movies

[00:45:57] and Brandy kind of with you feeling that it's not fair

[00:46:00] some of them are going up against this chuggernaut

[00:46:02] of Oppenheimer.

[00:46:04] It the holdovers is just it is such a great movie

[00:46:11] and I was telling Brandy this before we started

[00:46:14] recording again too like it gives me

[00:46:17] the this dead poet society vibes

[00:46:21] like there's absolute dead poet society vibes

[00:46:24] in the holdovers.

[00:46:27] You know, but also on the same note as what you said,

[00:46:30] Pake American fiction, American fiction blew me away.

[00:46:35] How great of a movie that was from the story

[00:46:38] it told to the performances within.

[00:46:41] It was just I mean you watch the trailer for that movie

[00:46:44] and you think it's just this movie about this author

[00:46:47] that has to pretend to be more ghetto than he is to sell books.

[00:46:52] But when you watch the movie itself,

[00:46:54] there's so much more depth to that story in exploring family

[00:46:59] and you know, and death

[00:47:03] and all these other things that go along with it

[00:47:05] and and deceit and you're right,

[00:47:09] Jeffrey right, the movie is funny

[00:47:11] but it's dramatic, it's such an incredible movie.

[00:47:15] That if I had to award the Oscar,

[00:47:17] if I personally got to do it,

[00:47:19] I give it to American fiction over Appenheimer.

[00:47:22] I really would.

[00:47:23] Yeah, that's another one of the

[00:47:24] not the bins or the pigs or the bag.

[00:47:26] It's like it.

[00:47:28] That's another one of those movies.

[00:47:30] Like I said, I think I'm just not that I'm not smart enough

[00:47:32] for it.

[00:47:33] I like was so into it and then there's something

[00:47:36] that happens that I was like wait,

[00:47:39] did I miss that I miss half of it?

[00:47:42] I'm like, I had so many questions that I was just like,

[00:47:46] I don't know if I understood this movie or not.

[00:47:49] You know, Paik, you did give me a good idea.

[00:47:51] Maybe next year in addition to doing an Oscars episode

[00:47:54] work maybe maybe next year might be the first year

[00:47:57] for the Will Helm Awards.

[00:47:59] Oh, there you go.

[00:48:01] The Will Helms will have listeners nominate movies

[00:48:05] and so they don't even have to be the same

[00:48:06] like Academy nominated movies.

[00:48:07] Yeah, they could be anything that came out

[00:48:09] of in the year 2024.

[00:48:12] Add more to my watch list whenever I'm doing this season.

[00:48:14] Yeah.

[00:48:17] But maybe you know what?

[00:48:19] Maybe for next year we'll explore that.

[00:48:20] Maybe like in January, February of next year

[00:48:23] we'll have people listeners like submit their nominations

[00:48:28] or we'll come up with some categories

[00:48:30] and have listeners submit their

[00:48:35] you know, their nominations

[00:48:37] and we'll do an award ceremony.

[00:48:39] The Will Helms.

[00:48:40] I like that.

[00:48:41] It would be really fun.

[00:48:42] Yeah, it could be a lot of fun.

[00:48:46] So that it yeah, the Will Helms

[00:48:49] either the Will Helm Awards or the Will Helms

[00:48:51] and the Will Helm goes to

[00:48:57] I don't have it.

[00:48:58] Oh my God, soundboard right now that should do it.

[00:49:03] That's a sound that should be on my soundboard

[00:49:05] like constant light.

[00:49:07] They heard it in the intro of the show, it's fun.

[00:49:09] So yeah, so those are the 10 biggest categories

[00:49:14] but there's a lot of other little categories.

[00:49:16] I don't know before we get ready to wrap things up.

[00:49:20] Is there any other things that kind of stand out

[00:49:23] to either one of you that you feel like should get

[00:49:25] a little bit of attention?

[00:49:28] You know, whether that's a category we covered

[00:49:30] or it's something that we haven't yet.

[00:49:33] Yeah, well, I mean, I'm a completionist on this

[00:49:36] I have a choice and prediction for every single category

[00:49:39] even the ones we didn't cover here, just for my own kind of thing.

[00:49:43] So I mean, I could go over like all of those

[00:49:46] but I'll keep them simple.

[00:49:47] I think some other ones with the documentaries

[00:49:50] we don't really talk about too much.

[00:49:53] Bobby Wein was like the underdog.

[00:49:55] Like did I really love does a documentary this year?

[00:49:57] I think was incredible.

[00:49:58] Didn't know anything about that going on

[00:49:59] and you got that and stuff

[00:50:01] but I think my prediction

[00:50:02] when 20 days in Mario Paul is hard watch as that is

[00:50:07] is very important and I think it will also win.

[00:50:12] And then let's see, sound.

[00:50:16] I don't know how to give my reasoning for sound

[00:50:19] without spoiling too much about the movie.

[00:50:21] So I don't know but my pick for the sound

[00:50:24] is the zone of interest.

[00:50:26] Okay, just because this sound for that movie

[00:50:29] is what makes that entire movie.

[00:50:33] Okay, that's I mean it's I don't see any fault in that reasoning at all.

[00:50:41] I think Oppenheimer is gonna win for sound as well.

[00:50:45] If nothing else for the moment in the movie

[00:50:48] where they make you wait two to three minutes

[00:50:52] before hearing the explosion

[00:50:55] because I remember being in the theater

[00:50:57] going to an advanced screening of that

[00:50:59] and the explosion goes off

[00:51:01] and the whole theater lit up

[00:51:03] and everybody was waiting in anticipation for the boom

[00:51:07] and then they continue on with the movie

[00:51:09] and then two minutes later you hear

[00:51:13] the boom of the explosion

[00:51:14] and seeing no lie 85% of the theater jump.

[00:51:20] It was it was a jump scare in Oppenheimer

[00:51:22] and it was yeah, that's you know

[00:51:23] Yeah, no, the Oppenheimer is my prediction to win that

[00:51:26] but zone of interest for me that sound was critical to that movie.

[00:51:30] I agree with you on that one too as well.

[00:51:33] What category the Oppenheimer won't win?

[00:51:35] It won't win in original song

[00:51:37] because the box is taking it home.

[00:51:40] I'm just a hand.

[00:51:42] Wait, I can't believe.

[00:51:43] I'm just kin or team what was I made for?

[00:51:45] That's the question.

[00:51:46] No, it's absolutely gonna be what I made for.

[00:51:50] I just am sitting here imagining

[00:51:51] that we are going to listen

[00:51:53] to Ryan Gosling,

[00:51:55] the biggest award show

[00:51:57] sing I'm just kin and I just don't know how to do it.

[00:52:02] That whole theater is gonna feel the cannergy.

[00:52:06] That doesn't explain everything.

[00:52:07] I look, I'm just glad.

[00:52:12] I mean look there's definitely some

[00:52:17] there's people that are complaining about like snubs for Barbie

[00:52:21] and like songs and things like that.

[00:52:23] I was actually very pleased to hear

[00:52:25] that Gosling agreed to sing the song at the Oscars.

[00:52:28] I was surprised you did it because like

[00:52:29] you could tell in the interview

[00:52:30] he didn't think that would happen

[00:52:32] and then as it got more and more real

[00:52:33] he got like more and more fink looking

[00:52:36] that he was gonna have to do that.

[00:52:38] He didn't even think that the song

[00:52:40] was going to win awards.

[00:52:42] No.

[00:52:43] No, no.

[00:52:44] There are videos and gifts online

[00:52:46] of like his reaction when it has won

[00:52:49] at other award ceremonies.

[00:52:51] Because he didn't think it was gonna win

[00:52:53] and he like laughed along with it

[00:52:54] and then it got more and more real

[00:52:56] and I think he got more and more scared as he did it.

[00:52:59] Yeah, also one of the biggest snubs of the year

[00:53:02] that I hoped for early in the year

[00:53:04] like earlier in the year last year

[00:53:06] and I was like, I can't wait to see this at the Oscars

[00:53:07] and then it's not gonna happen

[00:53:09] and it's a dream that's crushed.

[00:53:10] All I wanted was to see Jack Black

[00:53:12] and a Bowser costume with a piano on that stage

[00:53:14] singing peaches like come on.

[00:53:17] Yeah, I could see that as being snubbed

[00:53:20] as original song because that's yeah, I could see that.

[00:53:24] Well, hey, like maybe next year as Oscars

[00:53:28] he'll get the nomination for Hit Me Baby

[00:53:30] one more time for Kung Fu Panda, Kung Fu Panda 4.

[00:53:34] Him and Tenacious D will be Oscar winners.

[00:53:36] That would be amazing.

[00:53:37] That would be fantastic.

[00:53:39] Now I want that to happen.

[00:53:42] Damn it.

[00:53:43] Him and Kyle Gas.

[00:53:44] There's Jack Black and Kyle Gas

[00:53:46] as Oscar winners for Tenacious D.

[00:53:48] That'd be amazing.

[00:53:49] Yes.

[00:53:50] Brandy, anything else for you that kind of like stood out

[00:53:54] maybe like a snub or something

[00:53:56] that just really caught your interest

[00:53:58] and something that you saw?

[00:53:59] I was in the Southern Chicago and I first name is Greta

[00:54:04] but I don't remember from last night.

[00:54:07] No, I'm not saying Greta Greta.

[00:54:08] Oh no, I'm not freaking that up again.

[00:54:10] Oh, it's so happening.

[00:54:11] That's how her name is also Greta.

[00:54:13] It's the main girl from past lives.

[00:54:17] I was actually really shocked that she wasn't nominated.

[00:54:20] Oh, that might mean another one of the kid

[00:54:23] from Anatomy.

[00:54:24] Oh yeah, I'm not that he was.

[00:54:25] Holy crap, that kid was incredible.

[00:54:27] I was actually very surprised

[00:54:29] that the guy that played Angus

[00:54:31] in the Holdovers was not nominated

[00:54:34] because that was a great performance too

[00:54:36] and that was his first performance ever.

[00:54:39] Yeah, that's Dominic Sessa.

[00:54:41] Yeah, that was his first ever role.

[00:54:44] So I thought it would have been nice

[00:54:46] to show him a little bit of love

[00:54:48] and give him a nomination

[00:54:48] because I thought he was great in that.

[00:54:52] I'll tell you one of the things

[00:54:53] that kind of stood out to me

[00:54:54] in the animated short films,

[00:54:56] letter to a pig.

[00:54:59] I thought was really strong

[00:55:01] and I'm kind of hoping for something

[00:55:02] that happened to that.

[00:55:04] I still need to watch 95 senses

[00:55:07] and our uniform but

[00:55:10] of the three that I watched in that category,

[00:55:12] letter of the pig kind of stands out.

[00:55:14] Or let me see if my pieces

[00:55:15] is my pick on the animation.

[00:55:17] I still need to watch that one.

[00:55:19] So any other final notes

[00:55:21] on this year's Oscar ceremony from anybody?

[00:55:26] It's just funny and a good way

[00:55:28] but it was just funny to me.

[00:55:29] I was talking to a friend about it

[00:55:30] how long all the movies were.

[00:55:32] Like, I don't know if I don't know

[00:55:33] what happened with these movies

[00:55:34] were like almost three hours.

[00:55:36] Yeah, there were some long ones.

[00:55:39] If I had a nickel for every 2024 Oscar NAM

[00:55:41] with a scene depicting the guillotine

[00:55:43] beheading of Murray and Twinnett,

[00:55:44] I'd have 10 cents which isn't a lot

[00:55:47] but it's crazy that there was two of them.

[00:55:52] If I had a nickel for Jesus' pig.

[00:55:59] Yeah, there were some long movies.

[00:56:00] I mean, you had Oppenheimer was going

[00:56:02] on three hours long, killers of the flower moon

[00:56:04] was up there in length mission impossible

[00:56:07] was going on like two and a half hours.

[00:56:10] Wasn't barbie like two?

[00:56:11] I think barbies like two and a half hours as well.

[00:56:14] Like, is people were doing barbieheimer

[00:56:15] and they were doing like all it was like an all day thing

[00:56:17] they were doing.

[00:56:18] It was I freaking love the people that did barbieheimer.

[00:56:22] Like that's so.

[00:56:24] Yeah, I mean, if I look at

[00:56:25] so looking at the movies by duration,

[00:56:28] killers of the flower moon three hours and 28 minutes

[00:56:31] Oppenheimer was three hours.

[00:56:32] Mission impossible was two hours 46 minutes

[00:56:35] and the pole and was two hours 38.

[00:56:37] Oh my God.

[00:56:37] Jones was two hours 34.

[00:56:40] Anatomy of a fall two hours 31.

[00:56:42] Guardians of the Galaxy two hours and third.

[00:56:44] Yeah, like everything was really long this year.

[00:56:47] Society of snow two hours 25.

[00:56:49] Poor things two hours 21 color purple 220.

[00:56:52] Spider-Man 220 creator 215 holder was 215.

[00:56:56] Yeah, it was some log movies this year.

[00:57:00] Oh, that was another one not so much a snub I guess,

[00:57:03] but like I was sort of surprised

[00:57:05] that Fantasia wasn't nominated for the color purple.

[00:57:07] I thought she was really, really good.

[00:57:12] Yeah, I mean, I enjoyed the color purple.

[00:57:16] It didn't blow me away.

[00:57:19] It's got, I mean, you know,

[00:57:21] you mentioned Coleman Domingo in it.

[00:57:23] Corey Hawkins is great in it as well.

[00:57:27] Fantasia, Teraji P. Henson like it's got a great cast.

[00:57:30] Yeah, I'm surprised.

[00:57:31] Henson didn't get the supporting actress,

[00:57:33] but I also Daniel Brooks getting it makes sense.

[00:57:37] She did right.

[00:57:38] Yeah, Daniel, I mean,

[00:57:40] I always see her from oranges the new black.

[00:57:43] Yes, me too.

[00:57:44] I made the mistake of watching the OG color purple

[00:57:47] and then watching the new one like back to back almost

[00:57:51] and they are, they're not very different movies

[00:57:53] but they're very different.

[00:57:54] Very different live, very different feel.

[00:57:56] Yes, yes.

[00:57:57] Oh, the original is also not a musical.

[00:57:59] Yeah, exactly.

[00:58:01] Well, that's what you meant.

[00:58:02] Yeah, you meant by different feel.

[00:58:04] Yeah.

[00:58:06] So yeah, so the Oscars are this coming Sunday, March 10th,

[00:58:10] starting in an earlier time,

[00:58:12] seven o'clock Eastern standard four o'clock Pacific.

[00:58:15] They'll still go until 11 o'clock of midnight

[00:58:18] here on the East Coast.

[00:58:19] So it's not going to matter.

[00:58:21] I think that's why they're doing the earlier time

[00:58:23] is because they usually tend to run long.

[00:58:26] Yeah.

[00:58:27] Here on the East Coast,

[00:58:28] it always runs over into the 11 o'clock news,

[00:58:31] which really pisses a lot of people off here.

[00:58:34] Really?

[00:58:35] Oh, God, yeah.

[00:58:36] That, come on.

[00:58:37] We're from the Philadelphia area, Brandy,

[00:58:39] like people here want their news.

[00:58:41] They do.

[00:58:42] We need to see, we need to see how many

[00:58:45] stepped the people were murdered today.

[00:58:47] No.

[00:58:47] And that's for me that night.

[00:58:49] That's the news I want is who's winning the Oscars.

[00:58:51] Well, I mean, the side add any categories this year

[00:58:54] because I know next year I think it is the casting as added.

[00:58:57] Did they add any this year?

[00:58:59] I don't think they added the same as last year.

[00:59:02] Yeah, I think it's the same as last year.

[00:59:04] The only category, man,

[00:59:08] and I've been calling for this for years.

[00:59:11] Me and I know a lot of people have been calling

[00:59:12] for this for years, especially with now days

[00:59:16] with movies like Guardians of the Galaxy and such.

[00:59:19] I want to see a motion capture category

[00:59:24] because it's just well deserved

[00:59:27] for some of these actors.

[00:59:29] I always envision what stunts in.

[00:59:31] I'm always so shocked that they don't have

[00:59:33] like a stunts category.

[00:59:34] Well, Tom Cruise would nominate himself.

[00:59:36] Of course.

[00:59:38] And like I know certain,

[00:59:40] which is fine he deserves it.

[00:59:41] But certainly like they have their own,

[00:59:43] but like I think they deserve it.

[00:59:45] Like that's crazy.

[00:59:46] I would like to see a dance category.

[00:59:48] Yeah.

[00:59:50] You know, so that Brian Gosling can earn some more.

[00:59:53] Oh my God.

[00:59:57] Look, I'm not going to lie.

[00:59:58] I watched Barbie and I actually really enjoyed it

[01:00:01] more than I thought I would.

[01:00:02] Oh yeah, I thought it was thoroughly enjoyable,

[01:00:04] a very fun movie.

[01:00:05] Yeah, I thought it was incredible.

[01:00:07] Because Barbie was pretty

[01:00:08] and Barbie was Margot Robbie who wasn't happy.

[01:00:13] There it is.

[01:00:14] Oh, I'm just saying.

[01:00:17] There it is.

[01:00:19] But yeah, so the Oscars this coming Sunday, March 10th,

[01:00:22] 7 o'clock Eastern, 4 o'clock Pacific.

[01:00:24] I wrote down all of our predictions.

[01:00:26] So we're going to see who for the categories

[01:00:29] where we didn't all pick Oppenheimer.

[01:00:32] We will see how we do on the end of it.

[01:00:38] Before we get out of here,

[01:00:39] I want to give you guys an opportunity

[01:00:40] to plug anything that you have if you have anything at all

[01:00:43] and if you don't feel free to recommend something,

[01:00:46] if you feel like there's something out there

[01:00:48] you want people to check out.

[01:00:50] Paik will start with you.

[01:00:52] Plug away my friend.

[01:00:53] Yeah, if anybody feels like listening to more of me

[01:00:57] you can go check out the Run for Your Lives podcast

[01:01:00] over on the podcast account network.

[01:01:01] Me and Daphne over there talk.

[01:01:04] All things monster movies, creature features, disaster flicks

[01:01:07] and we even had our own little Oscars thing

[01:01:10] as far as what fits into our, you know, the category.

[01:01:14] So we only did two movies really this year

[01:01:15] but we covered Society of the Snow and Nemona.

[01:01:18] One to cover Godzilla minus one is just not widely available

[01:01:21] enough to go cover it over there yet

[01:01:23] but we will in due time.

[01:01:25] Yeah, so if you want to go check that out

[01:01:26] lots of great movies and stuff

[01:01:27] I think we got Sharknado coming out this week

[01:01:29] so I can't believe you guys did Sharknado.

[01:01:32] God damn it.

[01:01:34] Such a awful awful movies.

[01:01:38] I'll tell you a quick story about Sharknado.

[01:01:42] I don't watch, never seen any of those.

[01:01:44] I've seen Sharknado too

[01:01:47] and the only reason I saw that was because I went

[01:01:50] and saw it when Rift Tracks rifted in theaters

[01:01:53] and no lie one of my good friends Chris can tell you this.

[01:01:57] I refuse to watch those movies

[01:01:59] because I think they're awful.

[01:02:00] I think they're horrible horrible movies.

[01:02:02] They're like, they're not even be list actors

[01:02:04] they're like de-list actors coming together for these movies

[01:02:08] but there's one scene in Sharknado too

[01:02:11] but even though they were rifting it

[01:02:13] there's a scene where I can't remember what character it is

[01:02:17] but they get swallowed by one of the sharks in mid-air

[01:02:20] and then also at mid-air

[01:02:22] they cut their way out of the shark with a chainsaw

[01:02:26] and survive and no lie you could ask him

[01:02:30] because he was embarrassed of me in that moment

[01:02:34] that in the middle of the theater when that happened

[01:02:37] I let out a, oh come on.

[01:02:39] It was like, that was like a bald.

[01:02:45] I was like, come on, I like this is ridiculous.

[01:02:48] But I mean, I'll listen to the podcast

[01:02:50] just because you guys are covering it

[01:02:52] because I think I don't have to watch the movie

[01:02:53] I can just listen.

[01:02:54] No.

[01:02:55] I can just listen.

[01:02:57] Brandy how about you anything going on

[01:02:59] that you want to promote or plug?

[01:03:01] So it is not my work but I'm very proud of them.

[01:03:04] It's one of my best friends.

[01:03:05] Husband's his name is Julian.

[01:03:06] He's been working for three years on paper short

[01:03:10] that he directed Rote and literally with like paper

[01:03:14] cut out and made.

[01:03:15] It's a nine minute short, it's called gruff

[01:03:18] and it's based off of his dad

[01:03:20] and like their relationship.

[01:03:23] It's got like 2.5 million views or something already

[01:03:27] but if that's something you're interested in

[01:03:29] it's on YouTube for free

[01:03:31] and it's under righteous robot.

[01:03:33] I think I'll be watching.

[01:03:35] That's awesome.

[01:03:36] It kind of, it makes me think of,

[01:03:39] I know it's not paper but Marcel the Shell.

[01:03:42] Yeah, 100%.

[01:03:44] It's a little bit with that kind of animation.

[01:03:45] Like in his garage all by himself it is,

[01:03:48] it looks like a legitimate animated film.

[01:03:52] It's crazy.

[01:03:53] It's the most well-thin I've seen.

[01:03:54] Has he submitted to any film festivals or?

[01:03:57] They are but he's they are

[01:03:59] but he was very much he had worked so hard on it

[01:04:01] that he was like I'm like there have been people

[01:04:03] that have been following since the beginning

[01:04:04] so he didn't feel right

[01:04:06] like because sometimes festivals won't let you release it

[01:04:09] and this was his first one

[01:04:11] and he was like I just want to give this sort of back

[01:04:13] to the people that helped with the good fund man

[01:04:15] and did all that stuff

[01:04:16] so he just put it out there for free.

[01:04:18] Oh, gotcha.

[01:04:19] Yeah, because you'll actually really like it Ben

[01:04:21] you'll have to watch it.

[01:04:22] Nice yeah, I want to check that out

[01:04:24] cause yeah, I was wondering

[01:04:25] but you kind of answered that

[01:04:26] is like is that something that could be up

[01:04:27] for an Oscar animated short for next year?

[01:04:30] But it depends.

[01:04:31] I know they're sending it to as many big ones

[01:04:35] as they can that allow you to have already released it publicly.

[01:04:38] I don't know what that is.

[01:04:40] There's one this year that kind of takes me around

[01:04:42] because our uniform is within that similar vein

[01:04:45] where the animation is like cut out

[01:04:47] like it's like fabric and clothing and stuff

[01:04:50] that is like stop motion like pulled together.

[01:04:53] So yeah, that's a really cool idea.

[01:04:55] I'm gonna have to check that out for sure.

[01:04:57] Yeah, I'll send it in like the little group chat.

[01:04:59] It's so good.

[01:04:59] But yeah, that's not a little plug for my friend.

[01:05:01] Cool.

[01:05:03] So no will help post credit on this episode

[01:05:05] basically just because we're we're covering everything here.

[01:05:09] So I'll just go ahead and say,

[01:05:11] go ahead and check out Wilhelmpodcast.com

[01:05:13] for all of the other podcasts.

[01:05:15] Next episode of this podcast will actually be

[01:05:17] this coming Monday and it's gonna be the release

[01:05:19] of my of the audio from my panel with Christy Swanson

[01:05:23] from Contropolis, New Jersey,

[01:05:25] the OG Buffy the Vampire Slayer

[01:05:27] who was incredibly sweet.

[01:05:29] We had a great one on one at Contropolis, New Jersey last year

[01:05:32] and then next week will be top five movies

[01:05:36] you will never outgrow no matter how old you get

[01:05:38] which was a really, really fun conversation going back

[01:05:42] and talking about some of those movies.

[01:05:44] No.

[01:05:46] Yeah, kind of brought back a lot of nostalgia

[01:05:47] talking about a lot of those movies.

[01:05:51] Other than that, make sure you follow Wilhelm

[01:05:53] on the social medias facebook.com,

[01:05:55] such Wilhelmpodcast, Instagram at Wilhelmpodcast

[01:05:58] and I do wanna give a quick shout out,

[01:06:00] I don't know if he's listening or if we'll hear this or not.

[01:06:03] But I wanna give a quick shout out to my buddy Kevin Bigley

[01:06:05] because he just submitted a movie to Santa Barbara

[01:06:09] International Film Festival called Oki

[01:06:11] that just did really well at the film festival

[01:06:14] couple weeks ago.

[01:06:15] And in addition to that, his television show Animal Control

[01:06:20] just returned for its second season

[01:06:22] and it just got announced that his other show upload

[01:06:25] is gonna be returning for fourth and final season

[01:06:26] to Amazon.

[01:06:27] Nice.

[01:06:28] So I'm loving blood.

[01:06:29] So I'm gonna hear that.

[01:06:31] I'm incredibly excited for Bigel's worth

[01:06:35] his nickname.

[01:06:36] I've known Kevin since back when he did sirens on USA,

[01:06:40] which is kind of like the first role he ever did.

[01:06:42] And him and I have been kind of buddy, buddy ever since.

[01:06:46] I'm really proud of him.

[01:06:47] He's been getting a lot of stuff done.

[01:06:49] He's an author now.

[01:06:50] He's like, he directed the movie with his wife

[01:06:53] that I mentioned and co-wrote it with his wife.

[01:06:56] It did really well at the film festival.

[01:06:58] I hope it gets a distribution deal relatively soon.

[01:07:01] Plus with Animal Control and upload.

[01:07:04] He's just, he's killing it.

[01:07:05] He's doing great.

[01:07:06] So Big shed out to Kevin Bigley and his wife,

[01:07:09] Katie for all their hard work.

[01:07:11] But I think that's gonna wrap it up

[01:07:14] for this episode.

[01:07:17] Make sure you guys check out the Oscars on ABC

[01:07:20] hosted by Jimmy Kimmel again, which I dig.

[01:07:24] I think he does a good job.

[01:07:26] So any final notes from either one of you

[01:07:29] before we wrap it?

[01:07:32] I don't think so other than I'm gonna have to get

[01:07:33] some snacks for the Oscars.

[01:07:35] What am I gonna do?

[01:07:35] I find some like themed snacks

[01:07:37] to the side of the snow just get some tartar.

[01:07:39] Oh.

[01:07:43] I should have wrapped this pop.

[01:07:45] Sorry.

[01:07:48] Can't go wrong with popcorn.

[01:07:50] I mean, grab the popcorn,

[01:07:52] watch the ceremony and enjoy yourself.

[01:07:56] So then with that being said,

[01:07:58] thank you guys for coming back on and doing this.

[01:08:02] Hopefully we'll do this again next year for 2024

[01:08:07] and for the 2024 nominations

[01:08:09] and maybe even the will helps next year,

[01:08:13] if we can put it together.

[01:08:15] But with that being said,

[01:08:16] thank you guys for listening.
