[00:00:00] Hi there God, it's me, Margaret's little boy.

[00:00:18] Long time listener, first time caller.

[00:00:20] And I know you're probably busy because you've got bigger fish to multiply and then fry.

[00:00:27] As you do. Yeah, it might be all that you get about this episode. And I'm OK with that. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, definitely. I'm OK with that. I mean, I will say that I missed I missed all of our people this week. Yeah, I miss Jamie coming off of Man City

[00:03:00] and not having any Jamie Tarte just made me crazy.

[00:03:05] So I will say, I don't know about you, but I do have

[00:04:02] It was an add-on episode. It does not progress the story.

[00:04:04] It is really weird.

[00:04:06] I love it. I love weird.

[00:04:08] So, yeah.

[00:04:10] So I want to start off by reading this.

[00:04:12] This was something I found on Wikipedia about the episode.

[00:04:14] And I think it really hits the nail on the head.

[00:04:17] This episode, like Carol of the Bells,

[00:04:20] were not originally planned for the season.

[00:04:22] Originally the season was to consist of 10 episodes

[00:04:25] until Apple TV Plus expanded it by ordering two more episodes. which I've never seen, but I know it's referenced. As a starter point for the episode, as it would involve Beard going on a crazy night out and returned back to work the following morning, the writers didn't intend to reveal much from Beard with actor Brendan Hunt explaining, we just showed what we think is a non-atypical night out for him,

[00:05:40] which is why he just rolled with it.

[00:05:42] He further added the idea was to really run Beard

[00:05:45] through the mud, but then at the end,

[00:05:47] give him the release of this. everybody. I love it. I agree because earlier in the episode, Jane, who I don't know why I didn't realize her last name was Payne. Me neither. Until this episode. I really enjoy that because she is named correctly. But I love it that she says in the text message earlier in the episode,

[00:08:09] But it's this episode that really makes you realize like how compatible these two people are and why they are together. Yeah.

[00:08:10] And it makes you really appreciate Jane a little bit more.

[00:08:15] And you don't really I think from this point on, you don't really question their relationship any longer.

[00:08:21] I would agree with that.

[00:08:22] And maybe that was the point of the episode is as smart as he is, because Beard is incredibly intelligent. That whole conversation about him being a professor, a retired professor at Oxford, is fucking fantastic.

[00:09:41] Because we find out that he learned all of that simply

[00:09:44] by listening.

[00:09:45] And he does listen more than he talks.

[00:09:47] I mean, we know that. Oh, what the what up? Your house is on fire. What Baz does. Yeah, calling as the fire brigade. But even before that, like when he's talking to her, he seems confident, but he also seems like he's struggling a little bit in presenting himself

[00:11:02] as confident, if that makes sense.

[00:11:04] Oh, I didn't get that at all.

[00:11:06] Okay.

[00:11:07] Maybe it was just me then.

[00:11:08] And that's just her latest person. That would be an interesting theory. Well, I mean, interesting if that was true. Well, it's real weird that she just shows up when his pants rip

[00:12:21] and she was in the bar and she was like she did kind of lead

[00:12:25] him out of the bar.

[00:12:26] Yeah, right into that room made him go down the hallway with what's happened. You know what it reminds me of? There's an episode of the Big Bang Theory where Sheldon goes on a train ride by himself and he gets robbed and he's in the train station. I just watched this episode. Literally just watched this episode. And he's in the train station in his underwear. He's like, why won't anybody help me? He does. He gets so desperate.

[00:13:40] He's like, why is somebody who's been catfished. Yeah. What the hell is this guy talking about? This is somebody who has been duped more times than once. He's done. He's had all his money taken. He's had all this stuff taken. He's a little paranoid about all of this stuff. But going back to the moment with with Beard in Mary's apartment,

[00:15:00] like it was I love it's one of my another one of my favorite episodes

[00:15:04] of the of the episode is where he answers her phone I know. But yeah, so like I think he was legit ready to kill Beard in that moment because he even says later when they're walking together that like he has a problem with jealousy and it's because he's very protective because they're having a baby. And so I I think that he is.

[00:16:21] I think in that moment, Beard was he needed to go.

[00:16:25] James Tarte almost killed Beard.

[00:17:22] up with this, you know? Yeah.

[00:17:23] Because this guy has obviously been an asshole for a really long time.

[00:17:28] And I'm not this, I'm not going to save this comment for spoilers because I don't know

[00:17:32] how true this is.

[00:17:34] I got to wait because I, and see if this is true or not.

[00:17:37] This is legitimately something I'm thinking, but I don't know for sure.

[00:17:42] I don't think Beard ever tells Jamie about this.

[00:17:47] How would you? He was affected by that. He was affected big time by that. That's what he had to go shake off. It wasn't the bad game. He had to go shake off what happened in that locker room. I kind of disagree. Okay. Only because one of the constant things that happened through this is

[00:19:03] Thierry Henry and Gary Linker

[00:19:06] constantly talking about his coaching. This team has ever had in the time that they zero right? That was the final. Yeah, I mean that's that is headline news in real life. Yeah, a team losing six to talk hand in hand with the coaches. The coaches are regulars at that bar. an inkling. So I have another bit about this for spoiler talk. This is the other part of spoiler talk. But no, but you're right. Yeah, because you're right. They would know they were close to Nelson Road. Right. Exactly. If it was close to Nelson Road. And then they would. So this, I mean, because

[00:23:03] it's like a never really picked up on

[00:24:22] There are two different fields in this for AFC Richmond

[00:25:22] season three. Oh, sorry. A little bit of a spoiler.

[00:25:24] I had my timeline mixed.

[00:25:28] That's not a huge spoiler. But for them, guess what?

[00:25:30] The Titanic sinks. Damn it.

[00:25:34] Spoiler alert.

[00:25:38] God, next thing you know, you're going to tell me Luke's father is somebody important.

[00:25:44] Oh, yeah, Boba F To allow them to do this.

[00:27:01] Because they're well, they are fans.

[00:27:03] Yeah, you know, super fans. They're super fans.

[00:27:06] They are. They watch every game win or lose. But it, but at one point, Baz calls him McGonagall. Ah, do you know that somebody's actual real name? Oh, it's the name of an actual professor? It's the name of an actual person. Who is it? It is, hang on, I gotta go.

[00:28:21] Dave told me last night and it totally left me.

[00:28:24] Hang on one second.

[00:28:26] Oh shoot, I should have written that.

[00:28:28] That I should't know. I don't know who's who.

[00:29:41] That might have been Jeremy.

[00:29:42] I just call him BGP.

[00:29:45] Well, Paul is the is the large black man.

[00:30:45] Yeah, it'd be interesting if that was a running gag gag because Ted hustled for sure.

[00:30:48] Yeah, he did. Yeah, I did.

[00:30:50] But like, don't you think it would be funny if like it was a running gag

[00:30:53] for the rest of the series that have like all of a sudden,

[00:30:56] like when they're at the bar, random people are like, Ted, can we can we

[00:31:00] dart? David darts.

[00:31:01] And he's like, here we go.

[00:31:03] And like he just goes wins a cute couple and comes back with like $100

[00:31:07] and he's like life behind him. But we also get a different opening for this episode, similar to how we did with Carol of the Bells. Carol of the Bells was a Christmas themed opening. Claymation, wasn't it? That was Claymation. This one is just Beard with a different version of the opening. It's not the Mumford and Sons version.

[00:32:20] Do you know who sings this version?

[00:32:22] Yeah, I know.

[00:32:23] Pink Floyd.

[00:32:24] No.

[00:32:25] It's Jeff Tweedy.

[00:32:27] Why do I know that name? Oh, and the other thing too, going back to that Oxford where he calls him McGonagall. Just to give you a good idea as to how much knowledge about Oxford beard retained from the conversation of listening to when he dated that Oxford Professor. When the one guy from Oxford says,

[00:33:40] I was on that rowing team.

[00:33:43] He knows his name.

[00:33:45] He knew his name. They didn't bring over furniture or anything like that. They came over with like clothing and stuff because these were residences that were set up for them as coaching staff. So one, that table was probably already in there. No way. He bought it. He bought it. He bought it.

[00:35:00] He's made that place his.

[00:35:01] Ted has not.

[00:35:03] And I think that that speaks to their characters

[00:35:05] a little bit.

[00:35:06] Beard, Beard is acclimating And the moment I saw that bookshelf, I'm like, oh, he's read all of them. Oh, yeah. He's been there. Yeah. In my mind. Well, that's what I think. I don't think he brought any books with him. Those are all books he bought since he's been there. Yeah. And he's read them all. He's read every relaxing just to be Ted's like analysis guy.

[00:36:25] Like that's your whole job.

[00:36:26] Your whole job is just to, but we should. Yeah. Like about watching the game. We should watch, but we won't. And then Ted being Ted puts it to the Benny Hill theme at 10 times the speed. And it instantly relieves the tension with, at the very least, Roy and Nate.

[00:37:42] Because they're watching and they're chuckling.

[00:37:44] Yes.

[00:37:45] It's a light moment after a really heavy loss.

[00:38:48] But he doesn't quite well because again, let's not forget the episode before this is the whole none of your business.

[00:38:51] Oh, yeah, yeah, right. Right. He doesn't care like he's like it's it's Beards business.

[00:38:55] Yeah. And I got to tell you, I wouldn't want to

[00:39:00] dive too far into whatever Beards up to at any given moment.

[00:40:01] in the beginning of us.

[00:40:07] There it's a very literal name for when it comes to relation to Beard.

[00:40:10] Actually, all of them have pretty literal names. Think about it. Roy Kent is kind of a

[00:40:15] and then you have Ted Lasso, who lassos people into him.

[00:40:20] He wrangles the team together.

[00:40:21] He you have Jamie Tarte, who is, you know, not exactly sweet in the.

[00:40:26] All right. OK. Let me see here. Yeah, I don't really know where else to go, I think. Yeah, I don't have anything else covered. Pretty much almost everything. Again, we knew this was going to be going to be on the shorter end. Oh. Again, seeing Beard and Jane meet up in the club.

[00:41:45] I don't think at least the two times I watched this episode

[00:42:40] So he could have right. It wrote it in for himself as he goes up the stairs flawlessly.

[00:42:44] And then he's on that platform and he gets it right up to his hand flawlessly.

[00:42:48] It's up the arm.

[00:42:49] And it's it's it's so much fun.

[00:42:51] But there are videos online of him like going on talk shows after this episode.

[00:42:55] I think like the Kelly Clarkson show is one of them.

[00:43:01] Jennifer Hudson, I think he did it on Jennifer Hudson show like he.

[00:43:04] So the old American Idol talk shows.

[00:43:07] Yeah, pretty much. did Blue Mountain State years ago. He started as an American Idol contestant. He didn't even get to the final like he didn't get to the main show. He he was such an asshole, such an arrogant prick that they actually like dropped him early. But the footage that they have of him is is it no.

[00:44:23] Oh, yeah, it says Alan.

[00:44:24] Rich said, oh, Rich, Richard and turned to acting soon after American Idol.

[00:45:25] He was in like one or two episodes as Aquaman in the Smallville television series. Yeah, he is not Jason Momoa.

[00:45:27] Thank God.

[00:45:28] Yeah.

[00:45:29] No, I've, no, I can't say that because I met Momoa and Momoa is awesome.

[00:45:34] Momoa looks like he's awesome.

[00:45:35] I want to get my friend.

[00:45:36] Momoa is a huge teddy.

[00:45:37] Okay, I need to tell this story.

[00:45:39] Sorry listeners.

[00:45:40] I know we're off on the roll, but.

[00:45:41] Yeah, but we're done with the episode.

[00:45:43] And I think, and I think, well, I still have my quick spoiler stuff, but before we go into

[00:45:46] that, did I ever tell you the cheese maker from Walking Dead with Morgan? No, John Barrowman was never in Walking Dead. Oh, John Barrowman was Captain Jack Harkness in Doctor Who. He was Malcolm Merlyn in the Arrow television shows.

[00:47:05] But anyway, so like Neil and I are like we didn't talk about movies or television or anything like that. We didn't talk about him being Aquaman. None of it. We just talked about like traveling to different places, trying different foods. I don't remember how he smelled. I bet you he smelled good. But I will tell you, he is incredibly nice and he's a huge teddy bear. I got a nice bro

[00:48:24] hug from him when the conversation was over and we said goodbye and he went back to his Furious movie. Yeah, I know what you're talking about. The silence was not an accident. No. And the people listening could not see your face when I mentioned that. Did they go to space in their cars? No. Did they try to fly to the moon in their cars? No, but but Dom drives down a dam.

[00:49:45] Anyway, all right, so I have I don't think he has a memory of that.

[00:51:02] He you know what? You're probably right.

[00:51:03] He probably doesn't.

[00:51:07] It makes me care.

[00:51:08] I'm trying to remember. a positive that Jamie gets his father back in the end. Because in the very last episode, we see Jamie going to visit his dad in rehab. And the next time we see him is season three, episode 11 and then episode 12, he's in the last two episodes. OK. But there's a moment before that where they lead you

[00:52:20] or maybe it isn't until that episode where that's where they make you believe he died.

[00:52:26] I think it is that I think it's the owner, why wouldn't they? Why? And I swear to you, she's the owner. I swear to you. She does. She did seem to be able to come and go from that place pretty easily. Yeah. And she knew the ins and the outs of it. And she probably was like, okay, now go get him. Go get him out of that room. Kick him out. All right. I can, I could see it.

[00:53:41] I can buy into that theory.

[00:53:44] The only other thing I have for spoilers too goes back to Baz, Jeremy and Paul and meeting before he became owner of the team when he was younger. God, Rupert sucks so bad. So that is a great episode, though. Oh, yeah. The food fight episode. That's a great episode. That's a great episode. But humanizes Rupert. It reminds us that there was something that Rebecca had to love about him. Yeah. At one time.

[00:55:02] Yeah. You know, because up accessible, but a lot of them are not, they're sealed off. Dave started working at a hospital not too long ago that they actually built a new building because the old building was haunted.

[00:56:23] And they still have the old building on the campus.

[00:56:25] Oh, really?

[00:56:26] Yeah. You know what? I talk a big game. I wouldn't go. The thought of it makes me excited though. But that's all I have for spoilers.

[00:57:40] I don't know if you have anything at all.

[00:57:41] I have nothing.

[00:57:42] I have no notes.

[00:57:43] I came on here to just hang with my friend Ben.

[00:57:45] All right. I know. Yeah. I love me so much. I do, too. I do, too. And I love the fact that Beard linked up with these three dudes that probably were just dying to hang out with them just once. And I want to believe that this started like

[00:59:02] like a friendship to the point that they started hanging out regularly after games.

[00:59:06] Well, we'll think about it because when they come up to him And there's just into it. He says he says we can talk and drink as long as we don't talk about anything. But the game and drink and they're like they immediately sit down. Have you ever been to Vegas? What's Ted like behind closed doors? How do you cope knowing the universe is infinite? But your consciousness gets end in a second. Then he's like, I've been to Vegas many times.

[01:00:20] One night is good.

[01:00:21] Two nights is perfect.

[01:00:23] Three is too many.

[01:00:24] I agree with that. I agree with that completely.

[01:00:26] 100 percent.

[01:00:27] Ted is a man. either. And Danny Rojas. I have my Danny Rojas Funko Pop pre-order. Now if you bobble his head, does he say things? Because you know he needs to. No. Funko Pops don't speak. Yes, but Danny Rojas' should. I'm trying to remember. I actually have two of them pre-ordered. One of them is Danny Rojas.

[01:01:40] Who's the other one? Oh, it's Ted with a box of biscuits. Biscuits for the mouse.

[01:02:42] to the feedback for the episode.

[01:02:44] Oh, you got the feedback that I sent you, right?

[01:02:47] Sure. Hang on.

[01:02:51] Yep.

[01:02:54] Oh, we got a few. Yeah, we got a couple of this episode.

[01:02:56] You know why?

[01:02:57] Because you don't even need to rewatch this.

[01:02:59] You could definitely it's like burned into your brain

[01:03:03] because it's such a different episode.

[01:03:04] Well, I also want to say, too, that thank you to Alex Kruger

[01:03:07] for pointing this of years now. And I don't even

[01:04:23] know if I got that right. I think I'm pretty with anyone else. Agreed. You can really tell the two episodes that got added on in season two. But thank goodness we got this gem. Agreed. And I just realized the name of this episode is Beard After Hours.

[01:05:41] Yeah, it is.

[01:05:43] Yeah, because it mimics the beginning of the movie. Yep.

[01:06:42] Bones and Honey Private Club was awesome. Well done, Beard, with his whole Irish tale of Oxford.

[01:06:45] But once he was at that dancing club in the church,

[01:06:47] he finally found Jane, was dancing like a madman,

[01:06:52] got a hula hoop, what a night.

[01:06:54] Anyway, I'm from Boston.

[01:06:56] Well, Salem, the witch city, chow for now.

[01:06:58] Okay, so Gloria, I went to Salem for the very first time,

[01:07:03] maybe a year and a half ago, I think.

[01:07:05] And we went in October, to stop off at Salem. Let me know when you go, because if it's on a weekend, I might be able to escape up there, because I'm sure Jill would meet us there, and the three of us would have a really good time. That can be kind of fun. That could be super fun. Yeah, it'd be really fun. As for beard and the pants and hula hoop, the more I keep thinking about it,

[01:08:21] the more I'm thinking I might have found

[01:08:22] my Halloween costume for this year.

[01:08:24] For sure, you could pass that off so easily.

[01:08:28] And you have enough white in your beard Yeah, but you'd have like that COVID space that you need around people. Because the the AFC Richmond stuff is easy to find. Like you can buy all of that stuff. And the cap that he wears, I own them already. All I really need is the pants. Yeah. And a hula hoop. And a hula hoop. Well, that's easy to get to. The pants would be the hardest part, but maybe.

[01:09:40] I bet you Amazon has beard pants. Come on.

[01:09:43] Somebody's got to have them. Yeah.

[01:09:46] Somebody's got to have them. wrong episode anyway. I guess I had skipped ahead to Man City and was very confused watching the conversations between Ted and Sharon and that I had missed their previous sessions in the episode Headspace. And then forgetting that you had skipped a week for Man blood loss last February. We just had a recent death in our family and I've had ongoing anxiety with stuff at work and not to mention last

[01:12:20] week my car was totaled in a fender bender. But today I'm feeling okay and actually bought I hope now that I am back on track with the correct episodes in season two and Really looking forward to the next one until then this has been Jason in San Jose namaste, baby Well first off sorry for the shit that you went through with the death in your family and

[01:13:43] your car being totaled but congratulations on the new car and for Ted Lasso's season 2 episode, Beard After Hours. Within the first few moments of this episode, they did a really wonderful job of showing you the absolute pain of exiting a visitor's stadium after your team just lost a game. I took the girls to their first ever Phillies game this year, but I took them to PNC Park in Pittsburgh while we were visiting their godfather. We ended up losing in

[01:15:01] extra innings, and it was just awful hearing my oldest ask why everyone was

[01:15:04] cheering, even though our guys just lost. I felt for being on of the song, as well as the imagery of the Blue Moon throughout this episode, especially since Blue Moon is the official song of Man City supporters. I have to say, I think Baz Paul and Jeremy's storyline might be my favorite in this episode. I love Beard, and I'm glad we got one of the bonus episodes dedicated to him, but I really

[01:16:20] appreciated getting more from the Pub Boys, too.

[01:16:24] I was so truly delighted when they got to to come on the show with you both. Let me know which episode and when and I'll be there. Yeah. So, yeah, he'd be.

[01:17:42] Yeah, he'll be a great guest when he comes on and we'll definitely have him on.

[01:17:45] That'll be fun at some point.

[01:17:47] But, yeah, thank you for that, Alex.

[01:18:42] Is he going to see an win? I don't know if he's going to see an win or not.

[01:18:45] If he has time, does that would be epic.

[01:18:48] Yeah.

[01:18:49] But I'm and it will be so hilarious and fitting

[01:18:52] that that's the first said that she meets.

[01:18:58] Yeah, I agree.

[01:19:00] Because he is.

[01:19:01] He's like our mascot at this point.

[01:19:04] You know, he's the viewer mascot.

[01:19:06] He is a voice This is Steve. And this is going to be for a beard after hours. And unfortunately, because I'm taking a vacation,

[01:20:21] I'm going to miss the next several weeks after this.

[01:20:23] But I'll get this one done.

[01:20:25] Oh, this is a cool version of the theme.

[01:20:27] Oh, so he rode the train all the way home. It's too abundant guys are just hilarious and is beard actually hallucinating them or is this just for our benefit? This is just really hard to watch this three on one and they're just beating the snot out of them That's right I forgot the guy who's chasing him comes to his rescue did notice his keys fall out of his pocket So I can't remember he gets them or not and the guy gives him his keys back great. I

[01:21:41] Love these three guys and they got enough money off those pool guys

[01:22:45] common thing throughout this episode is that Beard keeps losing his key only for it to break when he uses it. Do we think there's a meaning behind that?

[01:22:51] Probably. He loses his keys three times and then ends up in a church. That's a lot like

[01:22:57] the three signs of the cross. I was going to If it's a religious thing. Right. And we've never seen it for hours. So we don't know if yeah, that's an after I didn't even know Griffin Dunn rips his pants and after hours because I've never seen it. I know. Everybody's like I'm trying not to think about after hours. I'm like, don't worry. I haven't thought about it once.

[01:25:41] Yep. At all. Um, so Bad Batch is back and it's the final season. I think it's three episodes are already out. And as soon as we're done recording, I'm going downstairs. I'm making myself a huge pile of nachos and I'm going about all the TV shows. I think it's second only to Andor. I will tell you. Don't. No, no, it has nothing to do with it's not a spoiler for the show. OK. I think he's booked, but for Rhode Island Comic Con.

[01:27:03] Dee Bradley Baker, who does the voice of all the clones.

[01:27:06] Yeah, I was going talking. Shut up. We are finally getting the end of Rick story. This is what we've been waiting for for years. I can't even tell you how excited I am. It's back. Okay.

[01:28:21] Walking dead is back. Can I just say and Alex back me up on this?

[01:28:24] Um, I firmly disagree.

[01:28:27] I covered so excited. I'm so excited. I'm so excited. I'm so excited. I'm so excited. Walking dead is back. And I will say. Um, podcast, Ika is covering it.

[01:29:43] Ika.com and check out the coverage of the ones who live on the cast of us.

[01:30:48] I think they are because they're limited because Dead City and Darryl Dixon were the same way. It is six episodes.

[01:30:54] Are they at least long?

[01:30:58] So this first episode, which I actually already have, is an hour.

[01:31:02] It's a full 60 minutes.

[01:31:05] Okay.

[01:31:06] So we'll see. really excited to see and I hope that she ends up being evil almost. You know, Polly and Pollyanna McIntosh returned her name. What a great name. Um, yeah, it's about swapping apples and denied the rera and Andy Lincoln. And then and then and then and then and then and then and then and then and then oh my gosh, I'm so excited.

[01:32:21] I can't tell if you're excited to watch the show or not. Shut up.

[01:32:26] I think we have a record this episode for most So make some nachos. I'm going to make brisket nachos. Oh, I hate you so much. I had brisket pizza the other day. Oh, it was so good. That's something wrong with us. I know. Anyway, thank you as always for listening, for subscribing. All that you guys do for being a part of this.
