[00:00:00] I mean, by all measures, not the cruelest prank ever played but no one should ever make

[00:00:09] someone eat a Vaseline sandwich.

[00:00:11] But that's Ronnie Fouch for you, innovator.

[00:00:13] How did you know I was in the hospital?

[00:00:16] Oh, you let me a bunch of voice notes?

[00:00:18] Yeah, 32 to be exact.

[00:00:20] I thought those deleted themselves.

[00:00:21] Yeah, well, I kept all those puppies but you should listen to some of these.

[00:00:25] They are all hoot.

[00:00:26] Please, no thank you.

[00:00:27] Oh, that doesn't matter here.

[00:00:28] I got it right here.

[00:00:29] The third is Sharon.

[00:00:30] I can't come to the phone right now but if you want to talk my air off about some bullshit

[00:00:35] because you're too afraid to probably emote, leave a message.

[00:00:39] Beeeeeeam!

[00:00:40] I didn't mean it.

[00:00:41] Oh, come on now.

[00:00:42] You meant it a little bit.

[00:00:44] It can cushho veritas, right?

[00:00:46] Ain't that the same?

[00:00:47] Oh, this next one brings Mr. Steven Sinheim in the house because it's using him tonight from

[00:00:52] West Side Story but doing both the parts of Tony and Maria at the same time which is

[00:00:57] in word thrilling.

[00:00:59] Here it is.

[00:01:00] Who died?

[00:01:01] Who died?

[00:01:02] Look at that.

[00:01:03] And you do the whole first act using thrilling.

[00:01:27] I can't know how much time it's been.

[00:01:37] Welcome to another episode of the Revisited Podcast.

[00:01:41] I'm Ben.

[00:01:42] And I'm Kristen.

[00:01:44] This week we are covering Ted Lasso Season 2 Episode 8 Man City.

[00:01:51] One of the best episodes in the season.

[00:01:54] Easily.

[00:01:55] Yeah.

[00:01:56] I think it is the highest rated episode of the season 2.

[00:01:59] Deservedly so.

[00:02:00] As well.

[00:02:02] Apologies for last week.

[00:02:05] We, Kristen more so than me but we both had a lot going on and because this episode

[00:02:12] is as good as it is, we didn't want to have acid.

[00:02:16] We didn't want to log in to record an episode just for the sake of recording an episode

[00:02:21] without doing the due diligence to the episode that we usually do.

[00:02:24] So joint decision we took the time.

[00:02:27] We decided to take the week off so that we could actually have a little bit more time

[00:02:32] to kind of, I guess, digest the episode.

[00:02:39] I just needed more time to get my life together and my life is still not together.

[00:02:45] I mean, and even so, we're still coming to you a little bit late as well.

[00:02:49] Usually we record on Sunday mornings but I was away this weekend attending a hockey

[00:02:54] game, an outdoor hockey game which was amazing other than the fact of sitting outside for

[00:02:58] three hours in 20 degree weather.

[00:03:01] No thank you.

[00:03:03] But you know what's funny is that I also went to a hockey game this weekend?

[00:03:07] I just, I went to minor league ice hockey in Charlotte.

[00:03:11] Oh yeah.

[00:03:12] We went to the school.

[00:03:13] Checkers play.

[00:03:14] It was fun.

[00:03:15] It's still hockey.

[00:03:16] Oh yeah.

[00:03:17] It was really fun.

[00:03:18] We had our friends in town and they have four boys and so and and they lived in Canada

[00:03:24] for a while so they love hockey and so we looked it up and we saw that there was a home

[00:03:29] game this weekend and we went and it was super fun.

[00:03:31] How did great time?

[00:03:32] Minor league hockey or farm league hockey, it doesn't matter.

[00:03:37] Hockey is, it's so fun.

[00:03:38] I love sports.

[00:03:39] I love any minor league sport because these guys are playing because they want a shot

[00:03:45] at the big at the big game and so they play their hearts out.

[00:03:49] And it's really, or you get the players that just, there's one player on the checkers that

[00:03:54] will never be an NHL star because he is just an asshole on the court or the pitch or

[00:04:01] the field or the ice.

[00:04:03] I don't know what you call it.

[00:04:04] You can get it.

[00:04:05] It's ice.

[00:04:06] Okay, there you go.

[00:04:07] But he's so much fun to watch like every time he was out on the ice on the ice when they

[00:04:13] ice everybody was like 24 is out.

[00:04:16] Yes.

[00:04:18] We were, it's funny because at the, at the, I went to the devil's ranger or devil's

[00:04:24] flyers game stadium series game which you know there was two.

[00:04:28] There was this one and then there was another game on Sunday between the islanders

[00:04:31] and the Rangers but I'm a devil's fan so it was 70,000 people and met like stadium

[00:04:36] and because it's so close to Philadelphia and new and it's in New Jersey, there were

[00:04:41] a lot of flyers fans there too.

[00:04:44] There were devil's fans and flyers fans but you know there was enough and there's, it's

[00:04:48] a huge rivalry between these two teams so there's always a lot of banter back and forth

[00:04:53] between, you know, between fans.

[00:04:57] And there was a lot of tailgating happening at this so a lot of fans were obviously hammered

[00:05:03] at a game like this.

[00:05:04] There was a group of devil's fans behind us and we were sitting there was eight of us

[00:05:10] that went to this game but there was a group of devil's fans behind us and at one point

[00:05:14] they were yelling taunts at the flyers fans that were a couple rows in front of us.

[00:05:20] And when you listen to these taunts, you're kind of like, buddy, you should stop talking

[00:05:25] like right now because you're really doing a disservice not only to devil's fans but

[00:05:31] to yourself because at one point there's a flat there's a player on the flyers name,

[00:05:37] connect me.

[00:05:38] And this guy the devil's behind us was yelling connect me is horrible, he's the worst player

[00:05:43] in the team worse off, he might be the worst player in the NFL and we're like NFL like,

[00:05:49] where are you, buddy?

[00:05:50] No one sport you're watching right?

[00:05:53] You're in an NFL stadium but you're watching hockey and he said it more than once.

[00:05:59] It was a drunk.

[00:06:00] Oh god, he was hammered.

[00:06:03] And then another point to anybody who's a hockey fan, if your team is down, usually

[00:06:09] you'll pull your goalie towards the end of the game.

[00:06:12] Empty net, it's not an empty net.

[00:06:14] I know.

[00:06:15] Yeah.

[00:06:16] To get an extra player out there to give yourself more of an offensive advantage.

[00:06:21] So at one point because the flyers are down five to three, they pulled their goalie and

[00:06:26] this guy is like, they're so dumb, they forgot to put their goalie out on the ice.

[00:06:31] Just stop talking.

[00:06:33] Oh my god.

[00:06:34] Just stop.

[00:06:35] Have you ever watched hockey before?

[00:06:38] Just stop.

[00:06:40] Or he just wanted to go and be a dick.

[00:06:44] That could be it too.

[00:06:46] That could also have been it.

[00:06:48] Yeah, but it was fun.

[00:06:50] It was a fun.

[00:06:51] Good.

[00:06:52] I'm glad.

[00:06:53] I'm so excited.

[00:06:54] We went out and tailgated and I didn't realize when the people I went with said tailgating,

[00:06:58] they went like, we met up with a group who owned their own brewery.

[00:07:05] So they came out with the trailer and the grill and like speakers like they had music

[00:07:10] going, blaring out of this they had burgers and hot dogs and brouts and steak sandwiches

[00:07:17] and peppers and onions and all these different beers and everything.

[00:07:22] Nobody now stop.

[00:07:25] I didn't drink anything during the tailgate because I didn't want to have to get up to

[00:07:29] use the bathroom every 15 minutes during the game.

[00:07:32] Yeah, I get that.

[00:07:34] I get that.

[00:07:35] And when it's that cold outside, it makes you want to pee even more.

[00:07:40] Yeah, but when you've got the alcohol belly, that cold out, you don't feel it as much.

[00:07:45] Oh, no.

[00:07:47] Because they were asking like one of the people that was with us was like how they kept

[00:07:51] showing like all the crazy fans on the tron and I'm like, they're like, how do these

[00:07:55] people not cold?

[00:07:56] I'm like, they're hammered.

[00:07:57] Yeah.

[00:07:58] That's why they're not cold.

[00:08:00] They're really drunk.

[00:08:02] We're cold because we're all sober.

[00:08:04] Yeah.

[00:08:05] That's why we're freezing.

[00:08:09] Oh my gosh.

[00:08:10] No, thank you.

[00:08:11] But it was fun.

[00:08:14] So yeah, so apologies for not coming to you last week, but we're here.

[00:08:18] We're back to it this week.

[00:08:20] We're back, baby.

[00:08:22] Bebe.

[00:08:24] Bebe.

[00:08:24] So 10 last so season two episode eight man city.

[00:08:30] Yeah, not only not only one of the higher rated episodes, but one of the longer episodes

[00:08:34] of the season now too, we're starting to get into those extended episodes.

[00:08:41] Right.

[00:08:41] What was it 45 minutes?

[00:08:43] Yeah, I think like 43 or 45 something like that.

[00:08:47] And it flies by.

[00:08:50] It feels almost like a double episode because there's so much that happens in this episode.

[00:08:55] Yeah, so much that happens and you know, I mean, honestly, I thought the way that it began

[00:09:04] was really great with Dr. Sharon because we don't know anything about her and we've only

[00:09:10] gotten little glimpses of her and how she really is.

[00:09:13] But it was, I love the fact that we opened up with her talking to her therapist.

[00:09:18] Well, hang on right there.

[00:09:19] We got to do the heads up real quick.

[00:09:23] If you're listening for the first time, as always, we will do a spoiler filled portion.

[00:09:29] We want to keep it as spoiler free as possible for people who are watching the show for

[00:09:32] the first time.

[00:09:33] So check the show notes and make sure so if you don't want to hear spoilers, check the

[00:09:38] show notes to find out when we talk about that.

[00:09:40] So you know when to come back in for favorite quotes and all that stuff.

[00:09:43] Okay, we got that out of the way.

[00:09:46] But back to you for opening with Dr. Sharon because I agree with you on this.

[00:09:51] Yeah.

[00:09:52] And I mean, we notice a couple of things.

[00:09:55] One, it seems that her sanctuary, her self-care is this bicycle of hers.

[00:10:04] She loves hip-hop music, which I love.

[00:10:08] But she's also like, it's so mean on her bike.

[00:10:12] Yes, she is.

[00:10:13] And I think your dog hates that sweater.

[00:10:15] But I think I watched it a couple of times and the first time that I watched it, like

[00:10:22] the first first time that I watched the episode, I'm like, gosh, she's so mean.

[00:10:25] But now that I've seen the episode a couple of times, I think that she says what she wants

[00:10:32] to say in these moments because she can't say what she wants to say in her job.

[00:10:37] And she's got to let it out somewhere.

[00:10:40] It's a period of free expression for her.

[00:10:43] Yeah, I mean, she's anonymous.

[00:10:45] She's zips by these people in a flash.

[00:10:49] She doesn't have to stay and hear about their stupid feelings.

[00:10:52] She can just say her stupid feelings and keep going.

[00:10:57] So I really like that about her.

[00:10:59] But as the episode progresses, you see that there are cracks in Dr. Sharon.

[00:11:04] And one of them is the fact that she drinks a lot.

[00:11:10] When Ted brings back her bike and they go into her house, we finally are kind of seeing

[00:11:17] Dr. Sharon's house for the first time through Ted's eyes because he's desperate to find

[00:11:23] something about her that he can latch onto because he hasn't found a connection with her yet.

[00:11:28] And so there's the wine glass on the table.

[00:11:31] There's the three empty wine bottles by the sink.

[00:11:34] There's the book from something to mercy.

[00:11:37] He's just like flipping over books and looking around and just trying to find anything that

[00:11:43] he can connect with her on, which is funny because we've seen that Ted puts on his own

[00:11:49] front and he goes home and he drinks bourbon.

[00:11:52] Well, we start to see a lot of similarities between Ted and Dr. Sharon this episode.

[00:11:57] Right.

[00:11:58] And I love the fact that Sharon's therapist friend mentor.

[00:12:06] No, I think it's a whole three.

[00:12:08] I actually found out.

[00:12:09] I looked into this a little bit and I actually do have a friend who is a therapist and

[00:12:12] I reached out to her about this.

[00:12:15] And it is common practice for therapists to see therapists not only is it a common practice

[00:12:22] but some it's encouraged and for some places that you work, it's actually mandatory.

[00:12:30] Good.

[00:12:31] I mean, I think that that's smart because you can't hold on to all of this information

[00:12:35] and not expect it to affect you personally.

[00:12:38] But I just love it that this therapist calls her out immediately and says, you may, he

[00:12:44] maybe driving you nuts, but he sounds like he's exactly like you.

[00:12:49] He just, he just emotes in his weird way using what he knows and what he's good at.

[00:12:55] You have your intelligence and he has his humor, you know?

[00:13:00] That's how that's his defense mechanism.

[00:13:03] And when she says you need to be vulnerable to him for him to think it's okay to be vulnerable

[00:13:09] with you and she does that.

[00:13:10] She practices that.

[00:13:11] She puts it into action which tells me that she is, she's as good of a patient as she

[00:13:18] is a therapist.

[00:13:19] You know?

[00:13:20] Like she understands that the tools that she gives her patients, you know, the her football

[00:13:25] players, you know, she understands that she's saying, listen, you need to do this and report

[00:13:30] back to me.

[00:13:31] And so she's given an assignment and she does her assignment like a good patient, you

[00:13:36] know?

[00:13:37] So she practices what she preaches which is really nice to see.

[00:13:43] And then at the end of the episode, you know, and Ted calls her and he does his confession.

[00:13:48] We can talk about that later.

[00:13:49] But I noticed when she goes to pick up the phone instead of one glass, there's now two wine

[00:13:54] glasses and there's spilled red wine on the table which leads me to believe that she's

[00:13:59] a bit of a mess internally and she presents herself to be this clean put together person.

[00:14:04] Her nails are perfectly manicured.

[00:14:05] Her hair is perfectly cut.

[00:14:08] She has, she always looks impeccable with the way that she dresses and carries herself.

[00:14:12] But when you go into her house, you see that she does have her own set.

[00:14:16] She has her own darkness and she has her own, um, and her own cracks, I guess beneath

[00:14:23] the surface.

[00:14:24] But I loved the human elements that we got from Dr. Sharon this episode.

[00:14:31] No, I'm right there with you.

[00:14:33] And like I said, like we see a big connection between Ted and Sharon in this one.

[00:14:38] Not only that, but we get to see two major breakthroughs.

[00:14:41] Even from Ted's perspective and one from Dr. Sharon's perspective, because Ted is finally

[00:14:45] found a way inside to kind of I guess become a little friendlier with Dr. Sharon in that

[00:14:54] he's the one that goes to pick her up from the ER after she's in her accident which

[00:14:58] is a really dark and dour way to start this episode because you really don't know, you

[00:15:04] know, she gets hit by a car and as somebody who's been hit by a car, it's not a funny

[00:15:09] spirit.

[00:15:10] I'm not conscious.

[00:15:11] She's unconscious and ends up with a concussion, right?

[00:15:15] So she's kind of at the mercy of having someone who of needing someone which also leads me to

[00:15:22] believe too that while at the same time you said she's kind of a mess internally when

[00:15:26] she's on her own and put very put together when she's professional.

[00:15:30] The fact that it was Ted was the one that went and picked her up makes me kind of lead

[00:15:35] to believe that it kind of lead to believe that she doesn't really have many people in

[00:15:40] her life that she considers friends.

[00:15:43] Well, I think we also have to remember that her job is traveling around and being attacked

[00:15:48] towards teens, right?

[00:15:49] That's who she was well.

[00:15:50] Yeah, so she doesn't really have people that she connects with because I think that

[00:15:54] her job is 24-7 and we see that with her answering the phone late at night while

[00:16:00] she's watching TV.

[00:16:04] I do love the fact that she left Ted 32 voice messages and she sang the entire first

[00:16:11] act of West Side Story.

[00:16:13] I'm ready to place the messages actually hearing her singing.

[00:16:18] She's like, tonight.

[00:16:25] It's one of those things too as anybody would know whenever you're under anesthetic before

[00:16:30] you go for a surgery, you kind of lose a little bit of self-control as to what you're doing.

[00:16:36] There's tons of videos on YouTube of people videotaping people while they're under, you know,

[00:16:42] the fake, the fake, the apocalypse with that girl.

[00:16:45] I don't know if you've ever seen it.

[00:16:47] I don't know if we've seen that one.

[00:16:48] Oh my gosh.

[00:16:49] We have to...

[00:16:50] For anybody that hasn't seen it, let me just break it down for you real quick.

[00:16:52] There's a YouTube video out there and you have to watch it.

[00:16:56] You and I are going to watch it when we're done recording.

[00:16:59] This girl, teenage girl comes out of wisdom teeth tooth surgery and her entire family plans

[00:17:06] and records like a radio broadcast all of it.

[00:17:12] These zombie apocalypse and they acted out on the way home and it is freaking hilarious.

[00:17:20] Oh no.

[00:17:21] It is one of the best things I've ever seen.

[00:17:24] I know there's another one I've seen where like the girl, a lot of times it seems to be

[00:17:29] wisdom teeth surgery but it's any kind of anesthetic that'll do that to you.

[00:17:36] But I remember seeing one where like a girl thought her nurse was really cute so she

[00:17:43] kept like hitting on him and the parents are like, you know you're not going to remember

[00:17:49] any of this.

[00:17:50] Oh no.

[00:17:51] There's no way I'm ever going to forget like a fine specimen like this in front of me

[00:17:55] like this.

[00:17:57] But the nurse is like totally taking it and stride because he knows like that's the influence

[00:18:03] of the drugs.

[00:18:04] And they recorded it for her and she didn't remember a damn thing ever doing it.

[00:18:09] She was so embarrassed.

[00:18:11] I would be mortified.

[00:18:12] I'd be like, okay, I move now right?

[00:18:15] Yeah.

[00:18:16] All right.

[00:18:17] I have to move.

[00:18:18] Yeah.

[00:18:19] So, but I mean getting you know, getting back to the point like the fact that you know

[00:18:24] whenever you're under that influence, you usually tend to lose some of your inhibition when

[00:18:31] it comes to that which you hear that in some of the earlier messages that she's sending

[00:18:37] to Ted as well.

[00:18:39] You know before she goes into Steven Stahnheim, you know, some of what she relays in those

[00:18:46] messages is her expressing her feelings that she can't do during a normal session.

[00:18:52] Right.

[00:18:53] Right.

[00:18:54] You know, and I feel like that, I think that's one of the things that kind of Ted appreciates.

[00:18:58] Right.

[00:18:59] Oh he's laughing.

[00:19:00] He thinks it's great.

[00:19:01] And she's like, I didn't mean that.

[00:19:02] He's like, nah, you meant it's fine.

[00:19:03] Yeah.

[00:19:04] You know, and so we see this huge breakthrough in that there's now more of a little bit

[00:19:09] of a personal connection between Ted and Dr. Sharon.

[00:19:12] But at the same time, Dr. Sharon makes a move that makes a breakthrough with Ted and allows

[00:19:18] Ted to open up more so much so that he reveals what he reveals at the end of the episode.

[00:19:24] Huge revelation.

[00:19:26] She calls him at one point and says, I just want you to know I was scared.

[00:19:32] I was scared and I thank you for being there for me.

[00:19:35] I don't want to talk about it.

[00:19:37] I just want you to know.

[00:19:39] And that was huge for her.

[00:19:42] It was huge for her, but I feel like it was also a move on her part to kind of get Ted

[00:19:47] to open up.

[00:19:48] When he calls her at the end of the episode, it's the same thing.

[00:19:51] He makes this huge reveal and then she's like, do you want to talk about it?

[00:19:55] And he's like, no, I just wanted you to know.

[00:19:59] He's reciprocating.

[00:20:00] Yeah.

[00:20:01] And that's a huge breakthrough for Ted and Sharon.

[00:20:04] Yeah.

[00:20:05] They definitely moved forward professionally and personally and therapeutically, I guess.

[00:20:13] Which is wonderful because they both need each other.

[00:20:17] I mean, I understand that she's the therapist and she is there to help the team and to

[00:20:22] help Ted.

[00:20:23] But I also think that she needs Ted in her life right now.

[00:20:26] She needs to learn that it's okay to let her hair down a little bit so to speak.

[00:20:31] Yeah, not a lot of hair.

[00:20:34] Not be so buttoned up and professional all the time.

[00:20:39] It's okay to not be professional in front of other people.

[00:20:43] Yes.

[00:20:44] Yes.

[00:20:45] Absolutely.

[00:20:46] To have a casual friendship or casual relationship in the sense of an interaction with another

[00:20:54] person.

[00:20:55] Right.

[00:20:56] Because it seems like no matter who she's in front of, she's 100% professional all the

[00:21:01] time.

[00:21:02] Right.

[00:21:04] That could be harmful.

[00:21:06] She's such a great character and I really wish that we saw more of her in season three.

[00:21:11] I understand, I understand the reasoning for not having her as like a regular character

[00:21:17] in season three.

[00:21:18] I understand that this is the healing season.

[00:21:21] This is the season where the team is healing and putting themselves together and they need

[00:21:26] Sharon.

[00:21:28] But I just would have loved to have seen Sharon also still in the building for season three.

[00:21:35] I just think it would have been wonderful.

[00:21:37] Yeah, because if I remember correctly, I think there's only two episodes with Dr.

[00:21:41] Sharon in season three and it's all and it's just by telephone.

[00:21:45] Yeah, she's not with the team.

[00:21:47] She has moved on at that point with her job to another team.

[00:21:52] So I agree with you.

[00:21:54] I think Dr. Sharon would have been a great addition, but we, you know, in reciprocation,

[00:22:00] we do get more of a trend.

[00:22:02] A lot more and you know, a lot more.

[00:22:04] A lot more.

[00:22:05] A lot more.

[00:22:06] I feel like we were on the winning end of that one.

[00:22:09] I agree with you.

[00:22:11] It takes everything in me not to rewatch season three because I want to watch it just for

[00:22:15] the second time when we rewatch it, but it's mean it's just, it's like torture.

[00:22:20] I need us to be done.

[00:22:21] Well, we're almost there.

[00:22:23] We're almost there.

[00:22:24] No, I know.

[00:22:25] I know.

[00:22:26] And I shouldn't wish I shouldn't wish this away because I love covering Ted Lasso, but

[00:22:30] oh my gosh, do I love season three?

[00:22:33] We have four more episodes of season two.

[00:22:34] We're almost through it.

[00:22:36] Yeah.

[00:22:37] So and the next episode, I don't know how deep we can go with the next episode.

[00:22:43] I don't think there's a lot to break down.

[00:22:45] It's a lot of surface fun for beard after hours.

[00:22:49] So yeah, it's probably looking at a shorter episode.

[00:22:51] Next episode is fine.

[00:22:53] We still get the beard episode and it's wonderful.

[00:22:56] It's beard after hours.

[00:22:57] You know how I know it was a good episode was like my dad, he's you know, I mean, he's

[00:23:02] a pretty open guy for being as conservative as he is.

[00:23:07] He's a pretty open guy.

[00:23:09] But afterwards, I was expect because we like when it was out, we liked to talk every week

[00:23:14] about what we thought of Ted Lasso, right?

[00:23:16] And so I'm like, oh, that beard after hours episode.

[00:23:19] And I was just waiting for him to be like, this is just dumb blah, blah, blah.

[00:23:23] He goes, that was weird, but I liked it.

[00:23:28] And that's how you know the show is good, you know, is that it's all ages.

[00:23:32] It's all walks of life.

[00:23:34] It's all wonderful, you know?

[00:23:35] I know how I know that it's the best episode or what a great episode is.

[00:23:41] And this isn't really spoilery so I can mention it now.

[00:23:44] One of the only one of the very first there's a whole line of fun copops now for all the

[00:23:50] characters.

[00:23:51] And there's multiple versions for most of them.

[00:23:53] But the very first version of the coach beard that came out is the one with him wearing

[00:23:59] the pants using a hula hoop.

[00:24:02] That's amazing.

[00:24:03] I love it.

[00:24:04] I can't wait to watch that episode now.

[00:24:05] I'm excited.

[00:24:06] Anyways, let's stay on this episode because this I love it.

[00:24:11] He's showing me the fun cop.

[00:24:12] It's wonderful.

[00:24:13] He's Milla mid hula.

[00:24:17] Yeah, for those of you that are watching for the first time, you're only an episode away.

[00:24:22] You'll completely understand by the time you get to.

[00:24:25] Yeah.

[00:24:26] So but I think that's all I really have for Sharon and Ted other than that little

[00:24:33] end part.

[00:24:34] But I really did love the breakthrough.

[00:24:37] And I think that that's kind of a recurring theme through this episode.

[00:24:41] I'm just now thinking about it now is we have a series of breakthroughs here.

[00:24:46] We have a breakthrough with Sam and Rebecca.

[00:24:49] We have a breakthrough with Ted and Sharon.

[00:24:52] We have a breakthrough with Roy and Jamie.

[00:24:56] There's just there's actually I would I would even go as far as to say so we have a break

[00:25:02] I agree with you.

[00:25:03] There's a breakthrough with Jamie and his father more on James.

[00:25:06] A break up, but yeah.

[00:25:09] I also think in addition to a breakthrough with Jamie and Roy, I think there's also a

[00:25:13] breakthrough with Roy with himself when it comes to Phoebe.

[00:25:19] That line he says to her, I'm worried that I'm infecting you with the worst parts of me.

[00:25:24] Like that is such a parent concern.

[00:25:27] You have no idea.

[00:25:28] Well, let's dive that's dive into that because that is actually one of the first things

[00:25:34] that we get after Ted picks up Dr. Sharon from the doctor's office is we go into what

[00:25:39] is arguably one of the best and funniest parent teacher conferences I have ever seen in television

[00:25:46] ever because Roy gets called in to talk to Miss Bowen about Phoebe because Phoebe is

[00:25:54] swearing too much in school.

[00:25:56] No, I mean, what do you do though?

[00:25:59] I mean, like as a teacher, I know you're talking about well, Roy Kent is her uncle and we all

[00:26:03] know Roy Kent, you know.

[00:26:05] Yeah, but I mean, it says a lot too that Miss Bowen was actually able to kind of make him

[00:26:12] confront it like to realize that he is an influence on her and I don't think Roy ever really

[00:26:20] realized it.

[00:26:21] Like I know he knew he had a great relationship with Phoebe that Phoebe loved him and they

[00:26:26] were constantly together.

[00:26:27] He loves hanging out with her.

[00:26:29] She loves hanging out with him.

[00:26:30] But I don't think it's until this moment because of Miss Bowen that he realizes how much

[00:26:35] of an influence he really is on her.

[00:26:38] And it's so adorable to see him and initially try and like his first instinct is to change

[00:26:47] fuck to F.

[00:26:48] F-No.

[00:26:50] I mean, F-No.

[00:26:54] And even Phoebe at that point, like shoots a look to Miss Bowen like, oh yeah, like

[00:27:00] whatever.

[00:27:01] You see what I'm dealing with here?

[00:27:02] Yeah.

[00:27:03] Like she even knows.

[00:27:05] But you're right.

[00:27:06] That scene when they're in the car and he's confronting her and like not confronting

[00:27:11] her but he's just discussing all of this.

[00:27:14] Yeah.

[00:27:15] You know saying like I'm a football player.

[00:27:17] People don't think of think worse of me when I do this.

[00:27:20] It's encouraging.

[00:27:22] You need to be better than I am.

[00:27:24] Yeah.

[00:27:25] And even though he's not her dad, I feel like he feels like partly he kind of is because

[00:27:34] he even says like no, he's a piece of shit.

[00:27:36] No, he's a living piece of shit.

[00:27:37] He's a living piece of shit.

[00:27:38] Oh, I mean, is he still alive?

[00:27:41] Yeah, he's a living piece of shit.

[00:27:42] Sorry, I should have clarified that one.

[00:27:45] So he does kind of fill that role.

[00:27:47] So he 100% fills that role.

[00:27:51] Yeah.

[00:27:52] So to see him kind of realize that children should be better even though he's not her

[00:28:01] parent, he's still influencing the fact that children should be better than their parents.

[00:28:07] Roy Kent is the reason why Phoebe will not have daddy issues in her future.

[00:28:14] Yeah, yeah, I see that too.

[00:28:18] Yeah.

[00:28:19] So yeah, and the best part about that parent teacher conference though is when they all

[00:28:24] walked away, Ms. Bowen's book and glitter because I hate glitter so much that I understand.

[00:28:31] I just understand that those two words so much.

[00:28:37] So one of my best friends, Rob, he despises glitter.

[00:28:43] I hate glitter.

[00:28:44] Him and his wife have been having Halloween parties for years.

[00:28:47] And anytime anybody shows up in something with glitter on it, he panics because the glitter

[00:28:53] will not leave the house for months after the Halloween party.

[00:28:58] So and now he has a three year old daughter and I'm like, good luck bud because you're going

[00:29:04] to be dealing with it for a while.

[00:29:06] So him and his wife just watched Ted Lasso for the first time last month.

[00:29:11] They just finished it last month.

[00:29:12] Okay.

[00:29:13] I think through it.

[00:29:14] And he too.

[00:29:15] And I mentioned this episode to him.

[00:29:17] And I was like, that parent teacher conference with Phoebe, he's like, fucking glitter.

[00:29:24] He felt that in his soul.

[00:29:26] Yeah.

[00:29:27] Uh-huh.

[00:29:28] Yeah.

[00:29:29] I hate glitter.

[00:29:30] We call glitter the herpes of arts and crafts.

[00:29:34] It's never gone.

[00:29:35] It never goes away.

[00:29:36] It never goes away.

[00:29:37] It never goes away.

[00:29:38] And if you worked with glitter like a week ago, you'll still have one piece of glitter

[00:29:42] on your forehead just sitting there.

[00:29:45] Doesn't matter how many times you shower, it doesn't matter how much you scrub your face.

[00:29:50] That one piece lives in your brain now forever.

[00:29:53] Oh, I have.

[00:29:54] I'm going to make a, I'm going to make a big revelation to you.

[00:29:58] Uh-I don't think I've ever told you this at one point in my late 20s.

[00:30:02] I dated a stripper.

[00:30:03] What is wrong with you?

[00:30:05] You did what?

[00:30:06] Ben.

[00:30:07] It also.

[00:30:08] Okay.

[00:30:09] I fell in love with the stripper.

[00:30:11] Okay.

[00:30:12] A little bit of a backstory.

[00:30:14] No.

[00:30:15] I used to work for a radio station.

[00:30:18] She also worked for the radio station, but she had a side job as a stripper.

[00:30:23] She was the in-house stripper, wasn't she?

[00:30:25] No, she was the radio station in-house stripper.

[00:30:27] She was a, she was a great, a great person.

[00:30:33] We're still friends even though she moved to the other side of the country.

[00:30:37] It's not what you think it is.

[00:30:39] Trust me.

[00:30:40] Well, we'll have a deeper discussion about this later.

[00:30:42] But it's fine.

[00:30:43] I'm just giving you shit.

[00:30:44] I don't care if she wants to strip.

[00:30:45] You want to do that?

[00:30:46] That's fine.

[00:30:47] I don't, she, I'll never do it.

[00:30:48] I don't have a stripper body.

[00:30:49] She refused to wear glitter when she worked.

[00:30:53] Good for her.

[00:30:54] I really love her.

[00:30:55] I really love her.

[00:30:56] She knew.

[00:30:57] Yeah.

[00:30:58] Even she knew.

[00:30:59] So anyway, I hate glitter.

[00:31:01] I hate it so much.

[00:31:03] I don't even want to talk about it.

[00:31:04] Okay.

[00:31:06] If we can move on real quick, and I just want to say one thing.

[00:31:11] Higgins is a treasure.

[00:31:12] Yes.

[00:31:13] And we must protect Higgins at all costs.

[00:31:17] At all costs.

[00:31:19] His office being in a closet is so...

[00:31:24] Any who...

[00:31:26] Any one's a door shut.

[00:31:27] He wants the door shut because he goes, he has less questions.

[00:31:31] That's questions.

[00:31:34] But at the same time, like as adorable as he is too with that, you know.

[00:31:39] He's like, oh, I'm just waiting for my office to...

[00:31:42] He gets...

[00:31:43] He's still dropping wisdom.

[00:31:48] Like he's talking, you know, to Jamie because Jamie gets the text from his dad about wanting

[00:31:53] tickets for Wembley and Jamie goes and, you know, more power to Jamie.

[00:31:59] That's what I mean.

[00:32:00] Yeah, more power to Jamie for still going and getting his dad tickets.

[00:32:05] You know, and you know, Higgins is kind of dropping like these knowledge bombs about relationships

[00:32:12] between fathers and sons.

[00:32:14] And you know, like so much so they should write songs about it.

[00:32:17] He has what?

[00:32:18] I think so, yeah.

[00:32:19] Yeah.

[00:32:20] He has five boys.

[00:32:21] Like if you want to talk to somebody about fathers and sons, national treasure Higgins

[00:32:25] is the one to go to.

[00:32:27] And he has a...

[00:32:28] I mean, and that shows you the stark difference too is that Higgins has five boys and he's

[00:32:32] a great relationship with all five.

[00:32:35] Jamie is the son of one.

[00:32:37] He is one son of one father and their relationship is toxic as we see later in this episode.

[00:32:46] We've already seen it.

[00:32:48] Not to this degree though.

[00:32:49] No.

[00:32:50] They...

[00:32:51] It's so exposing, you know?

[00:32:58] Like not only is he vulnerable in that moment but it's just like it's all of his fears

[00:33:06] of being exposed for who he thinks he really is in front of his teammates.

[00:33:12] That nightmare, that waking nightmare is happening.

[00:33:15] Yeah.

[00:33:16] It's the one thing he never wanted to happen.

[00:33:20] That's why he's always tough.

[00:33:21] That's why he always kept everybody at arm's length.

[00:33:23] That's why...

[00:33:24] And you see in like this one scene, oh my gosh, like somebody tore off all my clothes

[00:33:30] and I'm standing here naked.

[00:33:32] And if he was standing there naked in front of his team, that would still be better than

[00:33:36] what his dad did to him in front of his team.

[00:33:39] It is the most vulnerable.

[00:33:41] Not only...

[00:33:42] I think it's not only the most vulnerable we've ever seen Jamie.

[00:33:47] It's the most vulnerable I think Jamie has ever felt.

[00:33:50] Ever.

[00:33:51] He is in that moment digressed to a child.

[00:33:55] I mean, we've jokingly said Jamie is a child in behaviors and such but we kind of see

[00:34:00] where a lot of that stems from in this moment from this episode.

[00:34:05] No, he goes back to the episode.

[00:34:06] Totally right.

[00:34:07] He goes back to being a little boy.

[00:34:09] You could see it.

[00:34:10] And even when he punches his father in that one moment, it's like he's not a grown man

[00:34:15] that just stood up to his father.

[00:34:17] He's a little boy that just hit his dad.

[00:34:19] Yeah.

[00:34:20] You know?

[00:34:21] And there's a big difference between those things and the only one that really understands

[00:34:26] what to do in that moment is Roy Kent.

[00:34:29] And not only that...

[00:34:30] And I don't know if this is something that you notice too, but it's one of those moments.

[00:34:33] I like how we've kind of already transitioned out of Fagans into this because...

[00:34:38] I mean, there's not really a lot to mention about Hagans other than great as great as he

[00:34:41] is.

[00:34:42] But using that moment in their conversation was a great transition into this part because

[00:34:48] I...

[00:34:49] You're welcome.

[00:34:50] I don't know if you notice this when your want...

[00:34:53] When that whole scene plays out and I totally understand it.

[00:34:58] All the players, the other Richmond players, they don't know how to react to this.

[00:35:04] They had no idea what's happening probably.

[00:35:07] Here in the episode, we saw the great relationship that Sam has with his father.

[00:35:11] He mentions how the oil company pulled out and...

[00:35:14] I'm so proud of you.

[00:35:16] Right.

[00:35:17] Sam's father is very proud of him and Sam reciprocates and says, well, it's because of

[00:35:21] you that I'm the man that I am.

[00:35:23] He has a very different, completely different relationship with his father than Jamie has

[00:35:29] and has never had with his father.

[00:35:32] Jamie, you see that...

[00:35:33] And you see that difference because...

[00:35:36] That phone call was Sam and he puts it on speaker.

[00:35:39] That's how confident he is in his relationship with his dad.

[00:35:42] He puts that conversation on speaker, but at the...

[00:35:45] Like moments before that phone call, what does Jamie do?

[00:35:48] He ignores his dad's call.

[00:35:51] Yeah.

[00:35:52] And then Jamie listens.

[00:35:54] He hears the conversation because Sam and his dad...

[00:35:56] To Collins to Collins to...

[00:35:58] To May.

[00:35:59] Oh, and in the episode.

[00:36:01] So, his Macadu does it later.

[00:36:03] After Macadu gives, Jamie should about it too.

[00:36:06] And he does it.

[00:36:08] Why didn't you say something?

[00:36:10] It was on my neck.

[00:36:11] Colin...

[00:36:13] Colin, if I were Colin, I would be like, I never need a spotter again.

[00:36:19] You guys none of you have my Mac.

[00:36:23] But going back to the locker room scene with Jamie and his father, to the point that I

[00:36:28] was trying to make about, if you noticed it or not, all of the team doesn't know how

[00:36:32] to react.

[00:36:33] They're looking around.

[00:36:34] They're looking at Jamie.

[00:36:35] They're looking at his dad.

[00:36:36] They're looking at his dad being drawn out.

[00:36:38] Roy's eyes never leave Jamie.

[00:36:42] Never.

[00:36:43] During the entire situation, as his dad is on the ground, as his dad is being escorted

[00:36:48] out, Roy never stops looking at Jamie.

[00:36:51] Right.

[00:36:52] He never breaks contact with Jamie because he knows in that moment how Jamie is feeling.

[00:37:01] And...

[00:37:02] I think my favorite thing, though, besides Roy is beard physically removing James from

[00:37:10] and he just slams him into the door.

[00:37:12] He's like, whoops.

[00:37:13] Whoops.

[00:37:14] Yeah.

[00:37:16] It's such a powerful scene in...

[00:37:21] Because even as a viewer, I think we don't even know how to react in that moment because

[00:37:26] there's just an explosion of emotion that happens between Jamie and his father to the

[00:37:31] point where when Jamie hits him, we're kind of left in shock because I didn't expect

[00:37:38] that upon my first watch of this.

[00:37:39] I didn't expect Jamie to deck his dad.

[00:37:42] And then...

[00:37:43] I was proud of...

[00:37:44] I don't think Jamie expected to punch his dad.

[00:37:48] No, I think that was pure instinct.

[00:37:50] He tried to walk away from his dad and then his dad got handsy with him and he...

[00:37:54] And I'll bet you he felt empowered to do that because of the team, that he felt exposed

[00:37:59] in front of.

[00:38:00] Well, because look at it last time.

[00:38:02] Last time we saw this, they weren't a closed room by themselves.

[00:38:05] Yeah, Ted was the only one that saw it, you're right?

[00:38:08] Yep.

[00:38:09] And this time it was...

[00:38:10] It was after the Man City game, that he won.

[00:38:13] Yep.

[00:38:14] When he was on Man City.

[00:38:16] Right.

[00:38:17] That he won.

[00:38:18] I mean, it also...

[00:38:20] And it also...

[00:38:21] Past, but...

[00:38:22] It also goes to show you that it doesn't matter.

[00:38:25] Winner lose.

[00:38:26] Jamie would never...

[00:38:29] His father was never happy with Jamie.

[00:38:31] Winner lose didn't matter.

[00:38:32] Right.

[00:38:33] Nothing Jamie did made his dad.

[00:38:35] He just wanted Jamie to score all the goals.

[00:38:38] Yeah.

[00:38:39] That's it.

[00:38:40] Well, I mean, even in that case, let's say Jamie didn't pass the ball on that play.

[00:38:44] He didn't make the pass and for Man City to win the game.

[00:38:47] Let's say he made the goal himself.

[00:38:50] I still don't think his father would have been satisfied.

[00:38:52] He could have made more goals.

[00:38:54] Yeah, right, right, right.

[00:38:55] He could have scored more.

[00:38:56] Right, he could have done more.

[00:38:58] Why didn't you do more?

[00:39:00] Nothing Jamie Tart ever did would have made his father happy.

[00:39:04] Yeah.

[00:39:06] And it's such an empowering moment for Jamie to punch his father.

[00:39:10] I mean, it's resorting...

[00:39:12] It's resorting to physical violence, but in that moment, it was warranted.

[00:39:16] His dad was about to punch him.

[00:39:18] Is that shoved him?

[00:39:19] Right.

[00:39:20] Well, that's what I'm saying.

[00:39:21] His dad was going to me.

[00:39:23] His dad was about to strike his son.

[00:39:27] Well, I think after Jamie decked him, if not for Beard, he would have fought back.

[00:39:32] His dad would have punched back.

[00:39:33] Sure.

[00:39:34] For sure.

[00:39:35] Yeah.

[00:39:36] Beard...

[00:39:37] Beard doesn't get involved unless it's warranted.

[00:39:42] I love that about Beard.

[00:39:44] Beard will observe.

[00:39:46] It's like he's like a wildlife photographer.

[00:39:49] He doesn't get involved unless it's absolutely necessary, unless he feels that the time has

[00:39:55] come.

[00:39:56] I mean, he watched Nate treat everybody like shit, but it wasn't until he watched Nate

[00:40:03] tear calling a part that he just came up to him and said, do better.

[00:40:07] You know?

[00:40:08] So this was Beard...

[00:40:10] This was a beard moment too, where he was like, I'm getting this guy the fuck out of

[00:40:14] here.

[00:40:15] Yeah, because it needed to be done.

[00:40:17] It needed to be done.

[00:40:18] And he probably had so much rage inside of him that if he didn't physically remove

[00:40:22] him the way that he did in that moment, he probably would have beat him to shit as

[00:40:26] well.

[00:40:27] Beard?

[00:40:28] Yes.

[00:40:29] Oh yeah.

[00:40:30] Yeah, I agree with that.

[00:40:31] I mean, it takes brass balls for a man like James to come in and punch a Richmond player

[00:40:39] in a Richmond locker room surrounded by the Richmond team.

[00:40:43] Right.

[00:40:44] Like...

[00:40:45] And that's what that ball alone.

[00:40:47] But Jamie even says it.

[00:40:48] He goes, my dad's a dick.

[00:40:50] What does he do?

[00:40:52] Well, in any given situation, he's just going to do what a dick does.

[00:40:55] And it's true.

[00:40:56] I mean, he has his father nailed.

[00:40:59] His father's never going to change.

[00:41:01] He's always going to be a dick and he's going to do dick things like if you can think of

[00:41:06] it, this would be what what a jerk does.

[00:41:10] That's what James is going to do.

[00:41:11] And Jamie knows it.

[00:41:13] It doesn't make it any less hard.

[00:41:15] It doesn't make it easier to handle or swallow.

[00:41:18] It never makes it easier to have that exposed to all of your colleagues and friends, especially

[00:41:26] when Jamie's been on such a journey lately and he's been doing so well.

[00:41:31] And then this could have ruined it.

[00:41:33] This could have made him go back like five steps and go back to old Jamie.

[00:41:37] And he didn't...

[00:41:38] Well, not only that but like not only even going back to old Jamie, but just the fact

[00:41:43] that as I mentioned when he's confronted by his father and he kind of regresses back

[00:41:47] to a child, there may have been no coming back from that.

[00:41:51] Like that could have been an emotional wrecking situation like time where he just never recovers

[00:41:59] from being made look like a child or feeling like a child.

[00:42:03] You know, we could have just seen Jamie curl up into a ball and just give up on everything.

[00:42:09] But that's where Roy comes in perfectly because he knew that Jamie needed to feel that they

[00:42:15] had their back, that they had his back.

[00:42:19] And if you can't have your back, everybody has your back.

[00:42:23] I was just going to say the same thing like it's one thing for another player like Sam

[00:42:29] or Isaac or Colin to come up and comfort him.

[00:42:34] But for Roy to be the one to do it, the one he has the most disagreements with.

[00:42:39] And is constantly arguing with for Roy to be the one to step up and comfort him.

[00:42:45] I'm actually getting a little emotional.

[00:42:47] Me too, I've almost cried like six times.

[00:42:49] But also, you know, we can't forget the fact that Roy is Jamie's childhood hero.

[00:42:55] Yeah, that's all that's tried and even think about that.

[00:42:59] Yeah, that's true.

[00:43:01] So for, yeah, for for Roy to be the one to do it speaks volumes about, I mean,

[00:43:09] because we've always said that like they, they may not like each other, but they've

[00:43:14] respect, they respect each other.

[00:43:15] Mm-hmm.

[00:43:16] This is a prime example of that.

[00:43:18] Like Roy knows how great of a player and person Jamie is.

[00:43:23] He gives him shit, but he knows and he gives him shit because he knows he can do better.

[00:43:28] Yeah.

[00:43:30] And I think you're right.

[00:43:31] I think this is like not only is this a comforting embrace to help Jamie deal, this is an opportunity,

[00:43:39] this is Roy seeing Jamie's falling.

[00:43:41] Mm-hmm.

[00:43:42] I'm catching him.

[00:43:43] Mm-hmm.

[00:43:46] And that's what he does.

[00:43:48] Yeah.

[00:43:49] And it leads us into again, we just both admitted we get emotional talking about this because

[00:43:54] I, I cried watching the episode.

[00:43:57] Me too.

[00:43:59] And then it leads into a huge reveal.

[00:44:02] Mm-hmm.

[00:44:03] With Ted.

[00:44:04] From Coach Lasso.

[00:44:05] Mm-hmm.

[00:44:06] And because we talked, we talked a little bit about it earlier, but we find out one of Ted's

[00:44:11] big issues is that his father killed himself when he was 16.

[00:44:17] His father left him, you know?

[00:44:21] That takes a toll on anybody.

[00:44:25] Because there's no closure in that.

[00:44:27] I don't think at any point in your life is there ever closure to a suicide.

[00:44:32] Yeah.

[00:44:33] Because how do you get it?

[00:44:36] You know, you can't talk to that person.

[00:44:40] A note's not going to do it.

[00:44:41] No.

[00:44:42] There's no closure.

[00:44:43] Ted has never had closure to his father's death.

[00:44:47] And now, you know, seeing everything that Jamie is going through with his father in regards

[00:44:53] to everything the relationship he has with his own son, this is coming to a head.

[00:44:59] Mm-hmm.

[00:45:00] And he needs to tell someone.

[00:45:04] And he tells Dr. Sharon.

[00:45:05] Yeah.

[00:45:06] He calls her and says, you know, my father killed himself when he was 16.

[00:45:11] That happened.

[00:45:12] I don't know if this has anything to do with my issues.

[00:45:14] And she's like, no, it absolutely does.

[00:45:16] Yeah, 100% does, buddy.

[00:45:18] Yeah.

[00:45:19] Well, but I also think too that's a huge reveal for Ted.

[00:45:22] And the huge revelation for Ted is I think he's always been questioning as to whether

[00:45:26] or not if this was causing him issues.

[00:45:29] And he needed someone to tell him it does.

[00:45:31] Yeah.

[00:45:32] And then it's okay that it does.

[00:45:34] Yeah.

[00:45:35] I don't think because he's never, I don't think he's ever revealed this to anybody before.

[00:45:40] I don't even know if coach Beard knows this.

[00:45:42] I think Beard does know because Beard went to go check on him and Beard didn't question

[00:45:48] why he was crying because he was still.

[00:45:52] Well, Beard could have also gone to check on him because Ted comes clean about the panic

[00:45:57] attacks too.

[00:45:59] So it could have also been Beard just going to check on him to make sure he didn't have

[00:46:01] another panic attack which he kind of did.

[00:46:05] But you know, we find Beard and Ted didn't meet until after this happened with his father.

[00:46:11] So this I think there's a chance this might be something he's never even revealed to

[00:46:15] Beard.

[00:46:16] I don't know.

[00:46:18] That would be a good question to ask Brennan Hunt or Jason Cedacus.

[00:46:24] Yeah.

[00:46:25] Since they wrote it.

[00:46:27] That's true.

[00:46:28] Or Brett, I mean, Brett Goldstein's another writer on the show too.

[00:46:31] So I mean he's executive story editor.

[00:46:33] So you know, he's a much bigger deal.

[00:46:36] Yeah.

[00:46:37] Oh yeah.

[00:46:38] Okay.

[00:46:39] Way better deal.

[00:46:40] Executive story editor.

[00:46:41] But you know, for like for for Ted to go and tell Sharon and again this is that moment

[00:46:45] we talked about too where he tells her like she says do you want to talk about it?

[00:46:49] He's like, no, I just want you to know.

[00:46:51] I just want to stick a pin in it so we can talk about it later when I'm not emotionally

[00:46:55] charged.

[00:46:56] But I mean, that's that's at least a step forward.

[00:47:01] As progress.

[00:47:02] That's that's a topic for their next session.

[00:47:04] Yeah.

[00:47:05] That gives Dr. Sharon time to kind of sit on this and think about it.

[00:47:09] How do I approach Ted with this?

[00:47:10] Yeah.

[00:47:11] Open up another bottle of wine.

[00:47:12] Let's talk about it Sharon.

[00:47:14] So I mean, the end of this episode is so emotionally charged and just I cry every time

[00:47:25] I watch this episode I get emotional.

[00:47:27] Yeah.

[00:47:28] Because it's huge.

[00:47:29] Well, and then you have it and then you have it ending with you know, beard walking off

[00:47:35] and bird by bird.

[00:47:38] Not that kind of bird.

[00:47:39] But what I love is that there's some unspoken thing that at this point, we don't know anything

[00:47:46] about right as an audience member.

[00:47:49] But Ted looks at him and he says don't forget it's your turn for coffee tomorrow.

[00:47:54] Like he's looking at him going you will show up tomorrow because he knows that beard is

[00:47:59] in a bad head spot for whatever reason.

[00:48:02] And we find out later, you know, beard's whole story but um but and while it's a very

[00:48:09] cookie fun little episode of beard after hours in the next episode, you know that links together

[00:48:15] him walking off really nicely.

[00:48:18] There's also more to beard a lot more to beard and Ted knows Beards history and they have

[00:48:24] their own history but them looking at each other and having this you know resolved look

[00:48:29] of we will see each other tomorrow to me like I felt that I felt that Ted was telling

[00:48:34] him you're still going to be here tomorrow.

[00:48:36] We are going to still walk to work together, you know and that was lovely.

[00:48:41] Yeah, I mean we've mentioned it before too that beard remains a pretty well concealed mystery

[00:48:47] throughout the entire run of this series.

[00:48:50] There are only two moments where we really get a deep dive into beard.

[00:48:54] The next the first one is beard after hours.

[00:48:56] It's the next episode but even then it doesn't reveal a lot about beard.

[00:49:02] It reveals more personality about beard than anything else and then it's not until

[00:49:08] the penultimate episode that we get backstory reveal on.

[00:49:14] So so by the end of that by the end of the penultimate episode of season three when we've

[00:49:18] gotten both personality, that's when beard becomes a complete character.

[00:49:24] But he's still even incomplete.

[00:49:27] He's still a fantastic amazing character.

[00:49:31] It's the mystery about him and the lore about the lore about him that keeps us loving beard

[00:49:35] up until this point.

[00:49:37] And then once the mystery is revealed, we love him even more.

[00:49:41] Yes.

[00:49:43] And on rewatch and rewatch and rewatch.

[00:49:45] Yeah.

[00:49:46] And moving from beard into the pregame, the pregame confessional which was my favorite part.

[00:49:57] Yeah.

[00:49:58] Yeah, seeing everybody like kind of making confession.

[00:50:03] That's the best.

[00:50:05] And Roy knowing exactly which game it was was even better.

[00:50:11] Yeah.

[00:50:12] I accidentally took mushrooms accidentally.

[00:50:16] It was at Jane's house.

[00:50:19] I drank the wrong tea.

[00:50:20] What's great is that Ted's not mad about the mushrooms.

[00:50:23] He's like he's mad about the tea.

[00:50:25] I didn't know how to tell you, man.

[00:50:32] It was wonderful.

[00:50:34] Ted and Beard's relationship is just goals.

[00:50:38] It's one of the best moments.

[00:50:39] Yeah, it's goals.

[00:50:40] It really is friendship goals.

[00:50:42] Yeah.

[00:50:43] Because you're right.

[00:50:44] Like just the fact that he wasn't mad about the mushrooms.

[00:50:46] He's mad about the tea.

[00:50:47] Yeah, he's just like beard is drinking tea.

[00:50:50] You trader.

[00:50:51] Tea?

[00:50:52] Really?

[00:50:53] Oh, I accidentally was on mushrooms during a game.

[00:51:00] That's just that.

[00:51:01] I just I wish that they made like they rolled beef footage of that or something and had it

[00:51:05] just show up somewhere.

[00:51:07] You know, I wonder.

[00:51:09] I mean, the show is so well written that you know, a lot of times you think like oh, I

[00:51:14] wonder if there's improv involved.

[00:51:17] And, you know, I almost want to say like I don't think there was.

[00:51:21] I think the show is just so well written that there probably wasn't a lot of improv

[00:51:26] on the show.

[00:51:27] Oh, yeah, I can see that.

[00:51:31] You know, I don't know.

[00:51:32] I mean, maybe there maybe there is at some point, but you know, all the times.

[00:51:37] We should look for a blooper reel.

[00:51:38] I've never looked for a blooper reel.

[00:51:40] I've never I don't think there is a blooper reel because I've never found one.

[00:51:44] I think I've looked for one before and I just never found it.

[00:51:47] They should release one.

[00:51:49] You know that there's a million of them bloopers.

[00:51:54] I'm trying to look for, I'm trying to look through the transcript to find the what everything

[00:52:01] does.

[00:52:02] Oh, all the confessions.

[00:52:07] Yeah, here it's where is it at?

[00:52:13] Oh, I'm just so Ted comes through.

[00:52:21] Hold on, fellas.

[00:52:22] I need to hold on a sec.

[00:52:23] I need to tell you something when I left the match against Todd and him it wasn't cause

[00:52:27] you know my stomach was bothering me.

[00:52:29] It was because I had a panic attack.

[00:52:30] I've been having them from time to time as of late and I'm working on it, but I just want

[00:52:34] you all to know the truth.

[00:52:35] And then he said we good.

[00:52:36] We're all good.

[00:52:39] And then and then Higgins Higgins.

[00:52:42] I messed up the time zones on our transfer deadline, which is why we didn't sign up that

[00:52:47] amazing full back from Brazil.

[00:52:49] And they're like, okay, that's all right.

[00:52:52] Not Nate.

[00:52:53] Nate wanted to insult him first because Nate's a dick.

[00:52:56] Roy, Roy, I don't read the scouting reports you guys right?

[00:53:00] They're boring and they've come off.

[00:53:02] They're boring and I won't do it.

[00:53:07] I don't think that Nate's confession was really a confession.

[00:53:11] Now Nate's was a, Nate's was a humble brag.

[00:53:13] Yeah.

[00:53:14] Yeah.

[00:53:15] I pretend to get ideas in the moment but they're just good ideas I've had for months.

[00:53:20] That's a cocky humble brag.

[00:53:22] It is.

[00:53:23] It is time them to look.

[00:53:24] Everything about him.

[00:53:25] Yeah.

[00:53:26] I just timed them to look spontaneous.

[00:53:28] But then Roy is even like, that's a good move.

[00:53:31] You know, they're still kind of like praising him a little bit but still.

[00:53:35] And then and.

[00:53:36] Beard has the best one.

[00:53:38] There was one game this season where I accident where I was accidentally on mushrooms.

[00:53:43] Accidentally, I had been at Jane's house and I drank tea from the wrong pot.

[00:53:47] And then Roy, the port mail match.

[00:53:49] Yeah.

[00:53:50] Yeah, it won't happen again.

[00:53:54] Oh, it's such a great.

[00:53:58] It's wonderful.

[00:53:59] It's absolutely wonderful.

[00:54:01] I do want to say too as I've kind of had these moments a little bit because I used to

[00:54:07] march in marching band in high school and I mentioned at the top of the podcast going

[00:54:12] out onto like being at MetLife Stadium this past weekend.

[00:54:18] Before MetLife was there, it was the MetaLands and I had marched on the MetaLands field.

[00:54:24] And I remember the first time I had ever walked out of that tunnel with the band and getting

[00:54:30] that feeling of being out there like on the field.

[00:54:33] Yeah.

[00:54:34] And seeing that moment when the team walks out onto Wendley and it's like this huge majestic

[00:54:42] landscape for all of them.

[00:54:44] And they're all in all of that.

[00:54:46] They're in all of that moment.

[00:54:48] I felt that because I didn't get as Hoosier's moment.

[00:54:53] Right?

[00:54:54] Yeah.

[00:54:55] He got that wrong and then he got passively offside wrong side.

[00:54:59] Make this game.

[00:55:01] I still can't figure out the rules of this.

[00:55:03] But when they walk out and they get that majestic feel of walking out onto Wendley field like

[00:55:07] I, I loved that moment so much because I have felt that moment not Wendley but you know

[00:55:15] in my own way.

[00:55:16] Yeah, your own version of that.

[00:55:17] If I ever got to step out on staple center on the to the court where Kobe Bryant has played

[00:55:22] yeah.

[00:55:23] I remember I remember the first time I got to play the first time I ever got to do

[00:55:31] something like that when I was in band and high school we walked out in front of a sold

[00:55:36] out Phillies game during the playoff season to play.

[00:55:41] And you know, the Philly Stadium is like 40, 50,000 people.

[00:55:45] The ballpark is like 40, 50,000 people.

[00:55:48] So walking out to a sold out Phillies game to play it's nerve-wracking but it's kind

[00:55:53] of awesome at the same time.

[00:55:54] Yeah, I'm sure.

[00:55:55] I'm sure.

[00:55:57] So I totally felt that moment with them walking out on Wendley.

[00:56:01] That's just one of the make a quick mention to that.

[00:56:03] And I like it that Jamie said hello to one of his old teammates really nicely and respectfully.

[00:56:10] You know, we see that there's no bad blood but his father tells him that there is bad blood

[00:56:15] you know at the end.

[00:56:16] There's just so many contrasting moments that really show how messed up Jamie's self-worth

[00:56:30] is.

[00:56:31] Well, I'm from his father.

[00:56:36] Yeah and I firmly believe this too because I've been through this personally like it's

[00:56:41] when you remove toxicity, it's amazing how much of a better person you can become.

[00:56:46] You feel physically better.

[00:56:48] Yeah, I mean it's there's a physical difference not just mentally and that's the most remarkable

[00:56:55] part about it.

[00:56:56] And you don't even realize that it was as toxic as it was until you're free of it.

[00:57:04] 100% and I feel like Jamie being on Man City was not only a detriment because he was away

[00:57:13] from coach Lasso and the rest of the Richmond which is such an empowering and enriching environment.

[00:57:20] It was probably worse for Jamie because his father was probably at every game and he

[00:57:26] was getting that confrontation we saw Jamie and his dad have at the end of season one.

[00:57:32] He was probably getting every game.

[00:57:34] We just didn't see it because it was happening at Man City not at AFC Richmond's field.

[00:57:43] So it was probably happening more than just the one time we saw.

[00:57:47] Right.

[00:57:48] You know Ted just happened to witness it for once.

[00:57:51] Yeah.

[00:57:52] So getting away from Man City was removing toxicity from Jamie's life in multiple ways.

[00:57:59] Right.

[00:58:01] Yeah, because his dad probably never came to any of his games at Richmond.

[00:58:06] Yeah.

[00:58:07] I don't think he ever did.

[00:58:09] Right.

[00:58:10] The only reason why he went to go see him play it play because he was playing Man City.

[00:58:16] Right, right, right.

[00:58:18] But that's what I'm saying because it was at Wembley.

[00:58:20] It was at home.

[00:58:21] It was at his father's team's field.

[00:58:27] Is Wembley Man City's field?

[00:58:30] I don't know is it?

[00:58:31] I don't know.

[00:58:33] I thought it was kind of like I thought because it was a playoff game.

[00:58:39] My impression was that they brought both teams in to play it Wembley, but you're right.

[00:58:43] Wembley could be Man City's field.

[00:58:45] Like I know.

[00:58:46] Like we know.

[00:58:47] Yeah.

[00:58:48] You know what I know about football is what I've seen on Ted Lasso and like one World Cup.

[00:58:55] I am excited because I was actually talking to my friend about this on Saturday.

[00:59:00] The World Cup has come into the United States in 2026.

[00:59:03] Where?

[00:59:04] Philadelphia.

[00:59:05] Oh, like 11 different cities.

[00:59:09] Oh, Philadelphia is getting six games.

[00:59:13] One of the final game be played.

[00:59:16] Chicago, I think.

[00:59:19] I might be wrong about that because we're not getting any of the USA games in Philadelphia.

[00:59:23] But we're still we're still going to go because one of the games in Philly is happening

[00:59:28] on July 4th.

[00:59:29] Oh no.

[00:59:30] It's happening at the link July 4th, 2026, which is the 250th anniversary of the country.

[00:59:38] That is awesome.

[00:59:39] I want to go in Philadelphia.

[00:59:40] I want to know they are going to make a huge deal of that game.

[00:59:45] Get an extra two tickets for you and for you and Dave.

[00:59:48] Dave and I will come.

[00:59:49] Okay.

[00:59:50] I'll let you know when tickets go on sale so that we can we'll court it.

[00:59:53] That would be $5,000.

[00:59:54] It'll be the one and only time Philadelphia's football fans like real football.

[01:00:02] Well, I know we're going to break in topic too.

[01:00:05] But ever since we started watching Ted Lasso, I've been researching football like I watch

[01:00:10] Rex him.

[01:00:11] I follow Rex him now and a couple of the teams.

[01:00:13] The Philadelphia Eagles for their 2025 season or 2024 season later this year.

[01:00:18] Their very first game is being played in Rio.

[01:00:23] And I was like, they do know they have real football there, right?

[01:00:29] American football means nothing to those people.

[01:00:31] They are.

[01:00:32] They are Brazil.

[01:00:33] Football fans.

[01:00:34] Right.

[01:00:35] Football soccer all the way.

[01:00:37] I'm like, was that a good choice to play and bring American football to Rio?

[01:00:41] You understand that America is ridiculously stupid, right?

[01:00:45] When it comes to the rest of the world, like we are the tiger king of the world.

[01:00:51] Yeah.

[01:00:52] Oh, that's no, that's accurate.

[01:00:54] Yeah.

[01:00:55] That's accurate back to Ted Lasso.

[01:00:58] There's only one thing that we really haven't talked about.

[01:01:00] And with such an amazing episode, this huge reveal that everybody has been waiting for

[01:01:05] for so long kind of takes a major backseat to the rest of the episode.

[01:01:10] I mean, am I wrong here?

[01:01:12] No, you're not wrong at all because you're talking about Sam and Rebecca.

[01:01:17] Yeah.

[01:01:18] Yeah.

[01:01:19] And Sam's haircut.

[01:01:20] Sam's haircuts is the best part of that entire storyline.

[01:01:24] We got.

[01:01:27] I love the fact that Isaac is the team barber and you get one haircut a season.

[01:01:33] That's smart.

[01:01:34] You have to choose your time wisely.

[01:01:38] Danny, I'm saving my toe.

[01:01:39] I could married or until I get circumcised.

[01:01:48] I love Danny.

[01:01:49] You're so much.

[01:01:50] I do too.

[01:01:50] We haven't had enough of him this season.

[01:01:53] No, he's kind of become a secondary character or third to your character, which is fine because

[01:02:01] they're putting the focus on other characters.

[01:02:03] But we will get more Danny by the end of this season, which I love because Danny kicked

[01:02:11] off this season by actually killing any others.

[01:02:16] But well, yeah, that's right because of the whole he was the one that they used the reason

[01:02:20] they brought in Dr. Sharon.

[01:02:22] Football is life.

[01:02:23] But football can also mean death.

[01:02:26] And that is beautiful, man.

[01:02:28] But you're right.

[01:02:29] We get this huge.

[01:02:31] We as an audience have already had the reveal as to who Sam and that Sam and Rebecca are talking

[01:02:37] to each other.

[01:02:37] But this episode.

[01:02:39] The reveal happens for Sam and Rebecca when they agreed to go to dinner and

[01:02:47] they meet up and they realize they are the ones who have been talking to each other.

[01:02:51] It I would run.

[01:02:52] I would run if I was Rebecca, I'd be like we are going to pretend that this never happened.

[01:02:57] She wanted to like she was like no, don't like I have to go like I need to go.

[01:03:01] But Sam has this charm about him that kind of pulls her back.

[01:03:08] Like we look, this doesn't have to be a date.

[01:03:10] We can just do this as co-workers.

[01:03:13] Let's just we're already here.

[01:03:15] Let's just let's just have dinner smart move.

[01:03:19] It you don't you realize by the end of this episode how much of a baller Sam is.

[01:03:27] He's also just this he has an old soul.

[01:03:30] He's been raised right.

[01:03:31] He's incredibly kind.

[01:03:33] He's really smart.

[01:03:34] Like he is the whole flip and package.

[01:03:37] He's just 20 years too late.

[01:03:40] Yeah, for Rebecca.

[01:03:42] I will tell you right now upon rewatch of this episode like upon first watch of this episode

[01:03:49] the very end of this episode that scene with Sam and Rebecca.

[01:03:52] I was like, oh wow.

[01:03:54] Okay, that's we're going here.

[01:03:56] And then upon rewatch of this episode when he texts her his address

[01:04:03] and she goes she puts her shoes on she opens the door and he's standing outside the door.

[01:04:07] Man like that is such a baller move for that takes confidence

[01:04:15] to know that she's going to come running.

[01:04:18] I'll bet you he just stood there and he's like, this is where I'm going to find out right here.

[01:04:23] This is where I'm going to find out because if she never went through the door then he would know and he'd go home

[01:04:28] and that would be the end of that.

[01:04:30] Yep, but the fact that like

[01:04:33] when you look at the timing of everything like she goes to the she goes to the

[01:04:37] refrigerator she picks up the phone.

[01:04:39] She texts Sam.

[01:04:41] She doesn't reply through the app.

[01:04:43] She closes the app and texts him directly like they're done with banter at this point.

[01:04:49] This is a real connection now.

[01:04:52] She you know she texts him he texts her back his address

[01:04:57] immediately runs the put on the shoes.

[01:04:59] He was at that door before she ever picked up that phone.

[01:05:03] Oh, yeah.

[01:05:03] He was he was holding her shoes in her hand too.

[01:05:07] She didn't even bother to put them on yet.

[01:05:09] Yeah, she was running the door to the

[01:05:15] but I love this.

[01:05:16] I love the fact that like this is such an interesting

[01:05:19] pairing between these two characters and it's kind of fun.

[01:05:24] It's fun to watch.

[01:05:26] It's fun but it's so dangerous because you know it's not going to end well.

[01:05:31] It's one of your best players on your team.

[01:05:34] It's the owner of the team.

[01:05:36] I just listen if it wasn't Sam Obasania who is the most a

[01:05:40] he is the adult in the locker room.

[01:05:44] Out of all of them.

[01:05:46] He is the what did we call it on last?

[01:05:50] When I've oh no, we didn't call it on last we call

[01:05:53] we used to say that about characters on the walking dead that if you were

[01:05:56] this particular person in the group you know the heart of the show the moral compass

[01:06:01] the moral compass.

[01:06:02] Thank you.

[01:06:02] Yeah.

[01:06:02] He is sort of like the moral compass of AFC Richmond.

[01:06:06] Yeah, oh yeah.

[01:06:08] He's he is the adult in the room.

[01:06:10] He is the moral compass.

[01:06:11] He is the heart of that team.

[01:06:13] I mean this this storyline couldn't have worked with any other player.

[01:06:17] Any other player.

[01:06:19] So yeah so looking through my notes

[01:06:26] The only other thing I have as far as you know we talked about Roy and Phoebe.

[01:06:30] We talked about Sam and Rebecca obviously Ted Jamie.

[01:06:33] Roy the only other thing I think I have before going into spoilers is

[01:06:41] I just love in the beginning of this episode right after we come back in from the cold open

[01:06:48] it's beard and Roy in the locker room and all they're doing is just staring at each other

[01:06:54] It's like they know they don't need to say anything

[01:07:00] It's just an unspoken language

[01:07:02] And Keely comes in with a opportunity to be a spokesperson

[01:07:08] And they're and neither one of them says anything and she's like all right well,

[01:07:11] fuck you both then

[01:07:13] And it walks out

[01:07:15] And in the next moment we get Nate walking in I'm going to be a spokesperson

[01:07:21] Inflating his already inflated ego

[01:07:24] Not realizing though because he wasn't in there the moment before he's third choice

[01:07:28] Right exactly

[01:07:30] And I like it that beard goes I like that she gets us

[01:07:35] Yep

[01:07:37] Oh, it's so great

[01:07:40] Anything else on your head before we go into spoilers. I'm good

[01:07:44] All right, so with that being said then if this is your first watch and you want to avoid spoilers

[01:07:50] Now's the time to check the show notes

[01:07:51] We're gonna go in a spoiler talk and you can find out in the notes when to come back

[01:07:57] Uh, I'm gonna throw this out there just to

[01:08:01] Just to put it out there real quick

[01:08:04] You a lot of people may not realize it but in this episode we have met Phoebe's mom. Oh yeah

[01:08:12] We have she is

[01:08:14] Dr. Sharon Z. Arners

[01:08:16] Yeah, and I gotta tell you Phoebe's dad must be like

[01:08:20] White as hell

[01:08:22] Yeah, because she's got she's got some color to her

[01:08:26] Well, I mean her and Roy look like they could be related right

[01:08:29] But you don't really realize that until you see his sister and you're like oh yeah, I guess

[01:08:33] You guys

[01:08:34] I don't know it's just interesting because I because Roy Kent is Roy Kent

[01:08:39] Yeah

[01:08:40] You know and then and then you see Phoebe and you're like where do you fit in this family?

[01:08:46] Because she's I think she's like blonde

[01:08:49] No, she's not

[01:08:50] Phoebe. Oh Phoebe is yes. Yes

[01:08:52] I think you met the mother no no no

[01:08:55] Phoebe's Phoebe's very blonde and so

[01:08:58] That living piece of shit probably lives in America

[01:09:02] It's it's one of those and it's one of those situations that it happens

[01:09:07] So seamlessly that I didn't even really realize it until season three

[01:09:12] That that was Phoebe's mother and pond rewatch because

[01:09:16] You know we get the parent teacher conference

[01:09:18] and

[01:09:19] Or no we get the ER scene where

[01:09:22] You know

[01:09:23] Phoebe's mother is the one that wheels dr. Sharon in and tells Ted about the thing about it

[01:09:28] And then we go immediately into the parent teacher conference where Roy says Phoebe's mom is in the arners

[01:09:34] He are doctor and I yep any our doctor and I never made that connection

[01:09:38] I knew me neither

[01:09:40] I like it that's like I've watched a lot of crazy now to me in my early 30s

[01:09:45] I thought oh me too

[01:09:48] I watched a lot of house so oh yeah

[01:09:51] I've seen all the houses houses and I've seen the first like 16 seasons of Grey's Anatomy before it gave up

[01:09:58] But yeah, so we we have met Phoebe's mom you don't realize until later that it's Phoebe's mother

[01:10:05] I don't think you realize until happy uncle day

[01:10:08] in season three

[01:10:09] Which is such a great moment

[01:10:12] I do love uncle's day and I love that Jamie's there

[01:10:15] Yep, I had to invite your best friend. He's not my best friend

[01:10:24] I know I'm getting ahead of myself but one of my favorite moments from that scene is when Jamie gives Roy the jersey

[01:10:32] That has Kent on the back but he changed the aid to a you

[01:10:39] And it clicks with Phoebe's mom

[01:10:41] But it takes a couple seconds for Phoebe to realize what it is

[01:10:47] And then she says the Jamie you owe me a quid. He's like, but I didn't say anything you made me think it

[01:10:52] Yep that's true

[01:10:54] And then he gives her a quid

[01:10:57] Because I got right fair that's fair let's go find a windmill

[01:11:02] I'd love that moment happy uncle's day is such a great great moment

[01:11:08] I the only

[01:11:10] We we do have a voicemail from Alex he did he did let us know as we've said before if you have something

[01:11:16] Ispoilary just let us know before we play it so we'll play that during this too

[01:11:19] But the only other thing I have is when Ted comes clean in the locker room about having the panic attacks

[01:11:27] Nate

[01:11:29] Kind of gives this look

[01:11:31] Because as we're going to find out by the end of this season he betrayed

[01:11:35] Chris

[01:11:36] Yeah

[01:11:37] Trent cream is going to report on the anxiety on the panic attacks and the reason why panic

[01:11:43] Trent knows about the panic attacks is because of this moment yep because Nate is Trent's source

[01:11:50] Yeah, he absolutely betrays Ted's trust and and he

[01:11:54] And you could see it on his face that he wants to use that

[01:11:57] God I hate Nate. Yeah, that's what I was that's why I was bringing this up in that moment when Ted reveals it when you look at Nate

[01:12:05] Nate now has a bullet in his gun

[01:12:07] mm-hmm and

[01:12:10] He has it in no time in using it

[01:12:14] No, I think it's probably almost after this game. Yeah

[01:12:17] Oh because they lose so badly and Nate probably thinks it's because Ted was off doing whatever with his emergency

[01:12:23] And then you know Roy left with his emergency and Nate probably thinks I'm the only one holding this team together

[01:12:30] No, you're not your fucking asshole, but

[01:12:32] Yeah

[01:12:34] Yeah, so in that moment we see

[01:12:37] Nate

[01:12:38] Nate gets a mammion issue

[01:12:40] Yeah, and you're right. He's gonna betray Ted's trust

[01:12:42] Because there's nobody else in that circle of diamond dogs that would ever do that beard would never in a million years

[01:12:49] Betrayed Ted Lasso

[01:12:51] Leslie Higgins can't even say anything without getting

[01:12:55] Heartburn and Roy can't doesn't care enough

[01:12:58] At this moment in time

[01:13:00] Other than Ted there are six people that know about his panic attacks and one is his therapist

[01:13:06] Rebecca Dr. Sharon

[01:13:09] Roy beard Higgins and Nate yep

[01:13:12] Yeah, nobody else knows

[01:13:14] Nobody else knows about his panic attacks

[01:13:17] And of course Beard's not gonna say anything

[01:13:20] Roy just doesn't Roy just doesn't I mean he's concerned

[01:13:24] But it's they it's

[01:13:26] Ted's business to Roy and that you know it and we get that in the beginning of this episode

[01:13:30] It's his business why are we like even tell Nate because Nate's like why aren't we doing what's the emergency?

[01:13:36] What's this I'm just realizing this now both beard and Roy were like that's none of our business

[01:13:42] That's none of our concerns

[01:13:44] Yeah, we're not gonna ask as we don't talk about it

[01:13:46] And then when Roy gets the phone call from from this bow and he's like I gotta go

[01:13:51] And Nate's like well where are you going like oh none of your business exactly

[01:13:55] It's none of your business we are not friends. We are colleagues

[01:13:59] Yeah, we didn't talk a lot about that during the main discussion

[01:14:03] Um

[01:14:03] No because I think anything Nate at this time right now and this given time leading up to the season finale

[01:14:09] Is spoilers? I can't talk about Nate without talking about how much I freaking hate him

[01:14:14] Yeah

[01:14:15] You know what I mean he's hard to talk about in a non-spoiler sense because I hate him so much

[01:14:22] I get it. I totally get it and like again

[01:14:24] I didn't see a lot of this upon first view

[01:14:28] And it's it's rewatching everything that I really see a lot of the downhill for Nate

[01:14:34] And a lot of the things that contribute to it

[01:14:37] Well, well we are as audience members

[01:14:39] We are lulled into this wholesome

[01:14:42] Everybody is wonderful mentality

[01:14:45] Because the intention is for us to be shocked just like Ted at the end of this season

[01:14:50] And they do a remarkable job of doing that

[01:14:54] Yeah, yeah 100%

[01:14:56] And then again it's now upon rewatch that we're seeing things differently

[01:15:01] Because we're seeing all the cards on the table

[01:15:04] Now all the cards are being played face up

[01:15:07] So we're seeing the hand as it's developing

[01:15:10] Which is why I rewatch is so is so fun

[01:15:13] Yeah rewatch I can't say that word re robbera robbera robbera

[01:15:18] Terrible. I'll but it but as I mentioned we do have a spoiler

[01:15:22] Piece of feedback so we're gonna play that now during this section before we go into

[01:15:26] Into quotes so this comes from Alex Kruger on this is his voicemail for Man City

[01:15:32] Hey team, this is Alex Kruger leaving feedback for Ted lasso season two episode man city

[01:15:39] I remember when the show first aired and there was so much speculation the doctor the treated doc Sharon was Roy's sister

[01:15:45] I don't know why but I always assumed it was Roy's sister

[01:15:48] I didn't know if we'd ever get to meet her or if she would be like Elliott's brother barium scrubs

[01:15:53] Who was referenced a lot, but never seen on screen

[01:15:56] I always thought this was Ted lasso showing us instead of telling us

[01:16:00] But I'm curious if anyone else had the same well those are clearly Ken eyebrows reaction that I did

[01:16:06] I remember thinking myself during the Roy and Phoebe teacher scene at the beginning of the season

[01:16:11] And then this episode damn if I wasn't such a fan of Roy and keely

[01:16:15] I would ship the living hell out of these two

[01:16:18] Have a natural chemistry and I like that she is just as rough around the edges as Roy

[01:16:23] I honestly didn't see any breadcrumbs for them though

[01:16:25] And when Roy omits his relationship status a few episodes from now. I remember feeling terribly guilty for dream shipping though

[01:16:32] Lastly the salmon Rebecca conundrum

[01:16:35] Now banter is interesting because two people fell for the person

[01:16:39] And while the age difference is startling they do have a crazy simpatico chemistry together and are consenting adults

[01:16:47] So I never really cared about it

[01:16:49] The thing that always rubbed me the wrong way was the employee employer factor

[01:16:53] It just drove me nuts because that's a level of inappropriate

[01:16:56] I wouldn't expect from honestly either of them

[01:16:59] But then this week I was thinking about them

[01:17:02] And then Michelle and Dr. Dushbag next season

[01:17:05] And wondered how much Jason Stegas was consciously or subconsciously

[01:17:09] Making a comment on his ex-wife and her new boyfriend

[01:17:12] Seeing as how she was directing a movie he was in

[01:17:15] But I didn't know what the timeline of events were

[01:17:17] Still, I think there was a bit of art imitating life going on with the writing when it came to these inappropriate relationships

[01:17:24] I don't know maybe I'm reading too much into it but then again maybe not

[01:17:29] That's all I have for spoiler discussion this week

[01:17:32] Enjoy

[01:17:33] So wait so Olivia Wild directed an and movie that Jason Stegas was in I think that's how they met

[01:17:42] I don't know yeah, I don't know

[01:17:45] Huh

[01:17:46] That's interesting. That's a good that's a good pickup on that that maybe he was speaking a little bit about that from his own personal experience

[01:17:54] 100%

[01:17:56] But I also know

[01:17:57] I also know that during the filming of Ted Lasso

[01:18:01] Ted Jason Stegas was dating one of the actresses

[01:18:06] That still doesn't mean that he's not

[01:18:08] um

[01:18:10] That he's not still feeling the death of his relationship

[01:18:15] Oh no, I'm not saying that at all

[01:18:17] But I'm also saying that could have also contributed to the fact that he was in a workplace relationship during the filming of the show

[01:18:24] Right

[01:18:25] Because he was he was dating the actress that plays backs

[01:18:30] Wow Rupert's new squeeze

[01:18:33] Oh, why thought he was dating a makeup artist

[01:18:36] No, he was dating he was dating the actress that played backs interesting

[01:18:41] I think that's one of the reasons why she got the role on the show is because they were dating

[01:18:45] Oh Jason Stegas you guys are all a bunch of duchess

[01:18:50] Well now all right

[01:18:53] Um anything else for spoilers for you

[01:18:56] No

[01:18:57] No, I barely had any as it was so

[01:19:02] Okay

[01:19:03] So then welcome back to everybody from post spoiler talk

[01:19:08] Let's go into some of our favorite quotes and I didn't write any down this episode but there's so many good ones

[01:19:16] I did

[01:19:18] Did you read us off bed?

[01:19:20] I wrote down hate that sweater

[01:19:23] Uh, he's a living piece of shit

[01:19:25] fucking glitter

[01:19:27] Ted saying you do the entire first act

[01:19:30] Uh sometimes I get concerned that I am infecting you with the worst parts of me

[01:19:35] Uh, and that's it

[01:19:38] I have from the parent teacher conference

[01:19:41] Well coach Kent we've got a bit of an issue with Phoebe's behavior

[01:19:44] Let's have it. She's been swearing a lot

[01:19:47] How bad is it

[01:19:49] Today she called one of her classmates an apathetic shitfucker

[01:19:52] Are they oh yes

[01:19:54] Oh, yes, but that's not the point

[01:19:59] I love miss bowen I think she's such a great character

[01:20:03] I totally agree she's great

[01:20:06] I mean and i'm glad we get to see more of her too going forward in the season

[01:20:09] I think we see

[01:20:11] We see a little bit more of her going into season three right

[01:20:15] So but yeah, she's oh god. She's such a great character fricken fantastic

[01:20:20] um

[01:20:21] I know there are some other ones

[01:20:24] But I can't really like I said I didn't really

[01:20:28] I didn't really write them down so apologies for

[01:20:30] Erwin ten goes to Sharon come on so let's get go and sweetheart or let's go sweetheart or something

[01:20:37] There's no ring on this thing

[01:20:41] Anytime that Sharon and tether together is magic

[01:20:45] Yeah, I agree with that

[01:20:47] So that's really all we have for quotes then

[01:20:51] On this episode

[01:20:53] We did a good job. Yeah, we we felt horribly flat on the quotes episode on the quotes part of the episode

[01:21:00] But we did just fine

[01:21:02] Okay, I I agree

[01:21:05] there

[01:21:07] That takes us then into the feedback section of the podcast

[01:21:12] Uh starting first with our friend Greg

[01:21:13] He's been trying to play catch up on episodes and sending us feedback

[01:21:17] And as we always mentioned you can send us feedback for any episode

[01:21:20] Even if it's one that we've already done

[01:21:23] Uh, and we'll happily play it so this comes from Greg

[01:21:26] Uh, and this was on last episode

[01:21:29] uh, episode seven headspace

[01:21:32] Okay, finally able to catch up a little bit

[01:21:35] Uh, on to headspace

[01:21:38] God this is just a hard watch

[01:21:40] I don't know if it's my own experience with therapy or

[01:21:44] It's seeing Ted in such a negative light

[01:21:47] Uh, it kind of really makes you realize how much he's got bottled up and now it's going to explode

[01:21:53] I personally love therapy. I wish I could get it there every more often

[01:21:56] Uh, but uh, yeah, it's uh

[01:21:58] This one is hard just hard to watch like it's just

[01:22:03] Like you just I don't know if it's that I personally identify with being positive up until the point where you can't anymore

[01:22:08] Or would you be faced with your inner demons or whatever but yeah, it's hard and hey such a cock

[01:22:15] Wow come on man

[01:22:18] Like I do you just you see it and I've been in his position too right where you yourself come out

[01:22:23] So low that you can't

[01:22:25] help

[01:22:26] But view it in a different light than it's intended and when

[01:22:30] Yeah, maybe maybe they are

[01:22:32] Maybe they are but he's been conditioned. Maybe they're being supportive. They're being accepting

[01:22:37] But he's conditioned to do it and not just by his parents

[01:22:41] But as he's been brought up and every kind of like we talked about during the signal like it's

[01:22:46] It's just the way that he's been brought up and it's so

[01:22:50] God damn hard to get out of that frame of thinking it's hard to believe that someone can

[01:22:56] Can think you're better than they used to

[01:22:59] It's hard

[01:23:01] And that is why I had one of the reasons why I have a soft spot for Nate why it is

[01:23:09] Easy not easy why it is

[01:23:12] easier for me to be

[01:23:16] semi-forgiving

[01:23:18] You're watching and I'm praying that he doesn't go down the road

[01:23:22] But it's like reading

[01:23:23] Wizarding glass again. It's such a good plan

[01:23:26] But you like come on just just do what you need to do sorry. I went long anyway

[01:23:33] But I'll go back and record more for the signal because that's such a good episode and then maybe get to man city all right

[01:23:39] Yeah

[01:23:42] So

[01:23:44] Greg did record more for the signal

[01:23:47] Uh, he recorded four and a half minutes more for the signal

[01:23:51] But when I went to listen to it there was nothing there

[01:23:54] It was four and a half minutes of

[01:23:56] Ambient noise. So I think he's gonna try and rerecord it

[01:23:59] I don't know if he's gonna try and rerecord it or not

[01:24:01] But if he does we'll play it when we get okay

[01:24:04] That's hilarious by the way so

[01:24:07] Uh next up we have another voicemail from Alex

[01:24:10] We played one during spoiler territory if you missed it because it had spoilers in it this one is spoiler free

[01:24:15] So let's play this one now

[01:24:18] Hey, all Alex Kruger again

[01:24:20] I love beard after hours, but man

[01:24:22] I remember hating it the first time around because of how many hang threads there were at the end of this episode

[01:24:28] And then I now had to wait an additional week for

[01:24:30] It's like when the wolves invaded Alex Andrew and I had to wait the extra week to get that resolution

[01:24:34] While I sat through Morgan and the cheese maker on the walking dead

[01:24:38] Don't give me a rock an hour and a half a Lenny James is always appreciated

[01:24:41] But damn sometimes any quicker gratification than two weeks on something like this

[01:24:45] That's how I felt with this episode

[01:24:48] Uh one thing I noticed on this rewatch was Jamie has been used a lot in a comedic role this season

[01:24:53] Even if he didn't speak his body language of facial expressions have been a laugh out loud funny

[01:24:58] But this week Jamie's scenes and stories were touching

[01:25:01] He was earnest and honest raw and real

[01:25:04] Watching him crying on the pitch after the match was godding and the scene with his dad speaks for itself

[01:25:10] I know Roy was begrudgingly softening up to Jamie

[01:25:12] But this is clearly where the seeds for next seasons bromance were truly planted

[01:25:17] I really thought I had mentally prepared it wouldn't cry when Roy comforted him, but

[01:25:21] Alas I was not

[01:25:24] The difference between Sam and Rebecca's reaction upon realizing they were each other's matches was hilarious

[01:25:30] Rebecca was rightly horrified and possibly a little embarrassed

[01:25:33] Sam was tickled pink

[01:25:36] Sam I think has always had a shine for Rebecca

[01:25:38] I have to give him props for going for it

[01:25:40] Like a young Alexander Hamilton he was not throwing away his shot shot

[01:25:45] Though I now realize it probably isn't great to compare anti-colonialism Sam to an American founding father

[01:25:52] It's very rare that at this stage and a team's journey on TV or in movies

[01:25:55] They would be so clearly outplayed and overmatched within minutes of the open whistle

[01:26:00] It was kind of nice not having any false hope at any point and understanding from jump

[01:26:04] This wasn't going to be Richmond's day

[01:26:06] Which leads me to the coaches handling of the shellac

[01:26:09] Beard was clearly distraught over the way the team played

[01:26:12] Nate seemed like his only two ideas were to park the bus and piss off the rep

[01:26:17] I have to wonder if Nate really was just a one trick pony that got lucky against Todd

[01:26:21] And if his leading training the day before the match had anything to do with how poorly they played

[01:26:26] And I liked how Ted was channeling his inner Jason Garrett just clapping and shouting empty positive platitudes all game

[01:26:33] But man it is wild to see coach beard when he gets fed up with Ted's it doesn't matter if you wear a lose as long as you play as a team

[01:26:39] Ethos it's always jarring

[01:26:41] And the way he leaves Ted to enter his night out really made me worried he was going to leave the team or worse

[01:26:47] And lastly I wanted to discuss Roy and Phoebe's conversation in the car

[01:26:51] Now I made a very conscious decision early on to never use because I said so with my girls

[01:26:58] I firmly believe that if I'm going to make it just did with a decision or establish a rule

[01:27:03] I have to be able to explain my reasoning to them or else they wouldn't actually learn any kind of lesson

[01:27:08] They would just see me putting up a barrier because I have authority over them

[01:27:11] I love Roy explaining that he is who he is but he wants her to be better than him

[01:27:16] I think it's really impactful to acknowledge your flaws or flawed past with kids to show them that a

[01:27:21] You know what you're talking about and b. They'll have someone looking out for that

[01:27:26] That's all they have for this week as always keep up the great work

[01:27:32] Thanks Alex thank you

[01:27:35] Uh, I want to say this too about Alex um

[01:27:38] Alex has never podcasted before

[01:27:41] Really but

[01:27:43] Right you wouldn't think it

[01:27:45] So I had I've recorded a couple episodes of my will hum podcast in advance. They're going to be releasing over the next couple weeks

[01:27:53] Alex came on and did top five favorite baseball movies with me and that's going to be releasing in about two or three weeks

[01:28:00] He's fantastic

[01:28:01] He's never podcasted before and he was great. He is a great voice

[01:28:06] Yeah, he was great for his first time podcasting so um

[01:28:10] He's definitely gonna come back on will home and he's even said he'd be open to coming on here

[01:28:15] Oh, hey

[01:28:17] Yeah, so I think we should definitely have him on as a guest at some yes, please

[01:28:22] So

[01:28:24] uh next up we have a voice mail from uh

[01:28:27] Jeff Allen

[01:28:28] I want to preface this one a little bit

[01:28:30] He did give us a little bit of a trigger warning. He does talk a little bit about

[01:28:35] The death of his own father in this one and he even said we didn't have to play it

[01:28:40] But I told him because he was willing to share it. We wanted to play it yeah

[01:28:45] So it's only about a minute and a half long little over a minute and a half but um

[01:28:49] I just want to say before this uh

[01:28:51] This is one I did listen to ahead of time and I just want to tell Jeff

[01:28:55] Thank you for sharing this and

[01:28:57] Being willing to to put this out

[01:28:59] So here it is the voice mail from Jeff

[01:29:02] Ain't been in Kristen this Jeff

[01:29:04] So man city

[01:29:06] I knew that I had to leave feedback for and I knew that I had to call it in

[01:29:12] Uh because this episode is it's very personal to me

[01:29:16] so then you know this and a number of people listening to this do

[01:29:21] but um my father my dad passed away in um a couple years back

[01:29:28] It was sudden it was unexpected

[01:29:31] It was September 9th, 2021

[01:29:36] Uh

[01:29:37] 24 hours later this episode dropped

[01:29:39] Oh

[01:29:40] I watched it right away because um

[01:29:44] One of my favorite shows and uh never fails to put a smile on my face

[01:29:50] And then we got to the end the episode and um

[01:29:57] Well like I said, it's a very personal episode to me

[01:30:01] Ted reminds me a lot of my dad and I think that's one of the reasons I found

[01:30:05] Love with the show in the first place

[01:30:08] And I think maybe it's one of the reasons that I enjoy watching the show rewatching the show so much

[01:30:15] So um really glad that you guys did this rewatch. I'm glad that I got to watch this episode again

[01:30:20] Honestly because it makes me think of him and

[01:30:25] I like thinking of him

[01:30:28] So I will leave it at that and I am looking forward to next week's episode

[01:30:34] Because I have many many opinions on it and I can't wait to force everybody to listen to them

[01:30:40] All right talk to you guys later

[01:30:45] Uh, that's how I feel when I podcast. I'm forcing you to listen to my opinions. It's perfect pretty much

[01:30:50] I think I think that's how everybody feels when they podcast yeah forcing you to listen to my thoughts

[01:30:55] Yep, I'm gonna talk for an hour about my thoughts

[01:31:00] But thank you again Jeff for for sharing that and

[01:31:03] being willing to to open up about that with us and the listeners

[01:31:08] Mm-hmm at the same time and I'm glad that you know

[01:31:12] Watching this episode or even watching this show brings you closer to you know

[01:31:17] Your father who you lost I think that's that's great absolutely

[01:31:22] Uh, and last but not least we have of course a voice mail from my friend Steve Brown

[01:31:27] So let's play that now

[01:31:29] Hello, Ben and Kristen. This is Steve and this is gonna be for Ted Lasso man city

[01:31:33] Oh, that's right. I forgot that uh, Dr. Sharon has a doctor of her own

[01:31:38] Oh, I remember the first time seeing this and being so just

[01:31:43] Oh, she just got blasted by that car and for some reason I thought there was blood

[01:31:47] But I guess that was just the red pedals and me because it was the first time watching it love it

[01:31:51] So named is so caught up in who's gonna take care of of training and they're just gives it to him

[01:31:57] Also, she finally agrees to meet Sam in person

[01:32:01] Aw, and I love all the other guys or some of the other guys are so invested in this relationship with Sam and this

[01:32:07] mysterious boss girl

[01:32:10] Wait on his neck again

[01:32:13] I know policy like a hospital policy because a hospital policy don't stop

[01:32:16] Boys sister the doctor that just released Dr. Sharon and uh to

[01:32:23] Ted's custody

[01:32:24] I remember the first time watching this that I thought they were gonna try to do something with mispo and and Roy

[01:32:29] But it never did I remember in Hershey trying to get us to say the Roy Uncle Ben

[01:32:36] Can we get ice cream?

[01:32:38] No

[01:32:39] It wait I have to comment on this whole

[01:32:42] Ted carrying the bike and and listing the voicemails to Dr. Sharon who lets a concurs person have their phone while they're in the emergency room

[01:32:52] Come on so Higgins found an office

[01:32:55] It's janitors closet, but I don't even want to try to unpack the whole he eats bugs for money

[01:33:00] That's why he legally changed his name to bug and they did get ice cream love that they play

[01:33:06] But Roy and V played Princess and dragon and he's the princess

[01:33:11] Interesting how they didn't show us how it went with Nate running practice the training by himself. I guess oh

[01:33:18] Okay, she looks Rebecca looks amazing in that dress

[01:33:22] We did Rebecca just tell Keeley that Sam is there

[01:33:26] And they just figured it out. Oh, they're so cute together and they're having their little date and

[01:33:32] No spoilers. Oh Ted that was a great kermit by the way

[01:33:36] I love that Ted tries to have his Hoosier's moment by saying the pitch is the same size and then finding out that the pitches are all different sizes

[01:33:43] Which it doesn't make sense to me either Ted by the way Nate in this suit this gray suit just makes his hair look gray or even

[01:33:50] I love about Ted makes his admission about

[01:33:53] Panic attacks and now everybody around the circle is making a different confession

[01:33:57] Or Snates is about having great ideas and Beard's is about being on mushrooms. Jamie's dad is just a dick

[01:34:04] Oh, I had forgotten that beard was the one who takes Jamie's dad out of the locker room

[01:34:09] Oh and Roy giving Jamie a hug. I'm getting emotional

[01:34:13] I remember what happened what happened to test dad

[01:34:15] But I didn't win with this was the episode we find out oh

[01:34:18] And this leads us into beard after hours by the way my favorite Martin Scorsese film after hours

[01:34:24] Yeah, no spoilers better than your party boom. I said it. Oh, this is the first time Sam and Rebecca hook up

[01:34:32] Oh, I forgot about this all right on to next week

[01:34:36] Do you know? I didn't I completely did not even pick up on the fact

[01:34:42] That Roy tells Phoebe know to ice cream and they get ice cream anyway. Yeah, of course they do

[01:34:49] I'm sure they do he doesn't say no to Phoebe

[01:34:52] Yes, he does no he well he says it to her in front of miss

[01:34:58] No in front of miss bone. I'm just saying he does not deny that girl anything no

[01:35:04] Oh man, I love Phoebe and Roy's relationship. It's so much fun

[01:35:09] I did

[01:35:10] But thank you to Steve and everybody who left us feedback for the episode we encourage you guys to do so every week

[01:35:17] And there are multiple ways to do it

[01:35:19] Easiest way is just go to revisited pod calm there you can find links to

[01:35:24] Where to listen subscribe social media all that fun stuff or you could just email us directly

[01:35:29] Feedback at revisited pod calm send us an email or a voicemail and we'll play it on the on podcast

[01:35:37] um

[01:37:06] However

[01:37:08] There is a part of me that thinks jeffery right

[01:37:12] Might give killian murphy a run for his money. No way

[01:37:16] No, I think killian's gonna win the Oscar. I have no doubt

[01:37:20] I think it's a shame because jeffery right is fucking amazing

[01:37:24] He's phenomenal and everything he does. I mean he was

[01:37:29] Unbelievable in

[01:37:31] Westworld

[01:37:35] Everything for westworld he was so good in westworld

[01:37:39] But you know and he was good. He was good in the hunger games

[01:37:43] And sterling cave brown is also amazing in America. Well sterling cave brown is amazing in anything
