[00:00:00] Hey, James, I heard you're not going to be able to run with us today.
[00:00:09] That's true.
[00:00:10] Yep.
[00:00:11] Why is that?
[00:00:12] Isn't that really hard to hear that.
[00:00:18] Relax, Ted.
[00:00:20] It's just practice.
[00:00:22] Hey, if you can't practice, you can't practice.
[00:00:27] You hurt, right? It's fine by me. Tell you what, do me a favor. Will you get out there? Set the cones so the other reserves can do a little passenger. Oh, whoa. Don't need to set up cones.
[00:01:40] I really appreciate it.
[00:01:44] Colin, go set the cones up.
[00:01:45] Figue you'll excuse me.
[00:01:46] Was it talking to you, big man?
[00:01:48] Colin, set up the cones. cast. I'm Ben and I'm Kristin. This week we are covering Ted Lasso season one episode six two aces. I swear to record that and you need to record not Penny's boat. Oh my gosh. Okay, I'll do that. I need to see.
[00:04:21] And the incident.
[00:04:22] Oh, yeah.
[00:04:23] Yeah, yeah.
[00:04:24] Absolutely.
[00:04:25] I'll record it as I'm like, no, you have to start
[00:05:40] at start, you have to start at four first.
[00:05:42] You have to do four, five, six, two aces. Two laces. Yeah, well, you know, it's been a day already. OK, so can we please just? I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I'm really excited. I'm really, really, really excited about this episode because because because I do it. OK, so let me just say, like we usually do every episode,
[00:07:02] we're going to try our best to remain spoiler free as much as possible.
[00:07:06] In the main discussion, however, there will be a spoiler full talk
[00:08:06] the show. Yeah. I mean, not that the show needed it. The show was already great to begin with, but it just took the show. Danny's edition just takes the show to a whole nother level.
[00:08:11] And it really shows how terrible Jamie is because Danny Rojas is just as talented as
[00:08:19] Jamie Tarte. I would actually take it a to high five Jamie and Jamie's like, Oh, like he whips it,
[00:09:41] like he's maxing away like a nat and it doesn't even deter him.
[00:09:45] No. Like D and he's like, whatever, I don't care. I think he would have been the type to keep the ring on just because it was a comfort to him for the rest of the season. Yeah, or at least on him. Yeah, like maybe in his pocket or something, like it needed to be on his person as that comfort, as that like the blanket for him.
[00:11:01] A rare misstep to the writers focal point of both I Do appreciate the fact that the writers gave us The taking off of the wedding ring Realizing the Ted's not all right into cold open so that once we got past those opening credits. It's back to
[00:12:25] We've got a fresh Ted lasso. We there's a ton of- You should have been in the initial rollout. Yeah, I agree with that. So. So a quick little tidbit about the actor that plays Danny Rojas, Cristo Fernandez, he was a professional soccer player before taking up acting. So this is him playing soccer. Oh, that's fantastic.
[00:13:40] I didn't know that.
[00:13:41] Yeah.
[00:13:42] So just that's a little tidbit about our beautiful, wonderful, Yeah, I mean, just because you're right, he's such a dynamic character. And we are in the very early stages of Danny Rojas. There's so much more to come. And he's wonderful. Like every little layer of him is wonderful throughout the show. But to me, I was telling Dave last night when we were watching the show, to me, by the time
[00:15:03] we get to Danny Rojas, it almost feels like his introduction to the show is for Hamilton It really does bring Danny coming into play Literally coming into play Knox Jamie down a peg it humanizes Jamie a little bit Humanizes him, but I definitely had a smile on my face that Jamie was being put in his place He's being put in his place and he's being shown
[00:16:23] That he is not the greatest player
[00:17:22] It's fun for Danny. Danny Rojas is the reminder of why it's like he never lost that little boy wonder of the
[00:17:28] fact that he gets to do the thing he loves the most as his job.
[00:17:34] It's not even as a job.
[00:17:37] All of these other teammates for right now are in this.
[00:17:42] I'm a famous football star and I have to act a certain way kind of mentality. We say football is life because it's one of the most quotable lines from the show. And it's like, and we love it because like, that's what we love about the show. But like when you look at it from Danny's perspective, you're absolutely right. Like it legitimately is like, he's just happy to play football. Yeah. He's like, you guys understand that this is like,
[00:19:00] we get to do this forever.
[00:19:01] Yeah.
[00:19:02] Like we get paid to do this.
[00:19:05] Like, yeah.
[00:19:06] And I feel like Danny's the Rojas. Oh gosh, I love him so much. I'm so excited he's here. Yeah, I am too. I'm really glad that like we get
[00:20:24] to meet Danny at this point because he is a, I don't want to say he's a little spoilery, so we'll talk about that in the in the it happens at the end of this episode. Yeah, but the true The true process behind it is spoilery. Oh, well I'm just talking about what happens at the end of this episode Well because we find out that in the beginning of this episode that if Ted decides to keep Jamie bench
[00:21:41] We find out that Jamie is a player on loan from Manchester right
[00:22:42] Yes, huge insight. We get the first hint that there is a person underneath that douche bag exterior.
[00:22:49] And we find out why he's been influenced to become that douche bag as well.
[00:22:54] Right.
[00:22:55] 100%.
[00:22:56] And I think that without Danny Rojas joining the team, I'm not sure that that growth would
[00:23:04] have been made from Jamie. and a person. Yeah, I totally, totally agree. So we do though, get a nice little insight to the superstition of pro athletes. Not only that, but we do.
[00:24:21] We get that, we get that, the superstition.
[00:24:25] But another thing I really after watching all of that from Rexham, I actually really appreciated that they not only threw,
[00:25:40] they didn't just throw a superstition out there.
[00:25:42] They put a little bit of history behind it
[00:25:46] in like these soldiers going to war to go. I mean, although like it's business for her, but none of those people are there to drink. They just want to see AFC Richmond. Right. Right. You know, they just want to see the teams and they knows that she's not dumb. Yeah. She's not stupid. But you're right. We get, we get a little bit of the superstition of sports players in this, in
[00:27:02] this episode. And you know, the, the, the curse lifting ceremony that they later in the season that is not the case. Right. Rebecca is the one that instigated it because... Why would we get... I think that we can infer that. Probably. But it's not... I don't think that's a spoiler. It's not discovered until later. There's a huge moment of revelation with Rebecca confessing.
[00:28:21] And she says that she instigated the trade of Jamie Tartt,
[00:28:26] of Jamie Tartt, this is a boy. This is a 23-year-old boy in Jamie Tarte. He's not City. And I almost wonder if that happened, if that was already in the works, which you told Ted. Because, and here's my reasoning behind that. Rebecca does kind of have a little bit of a breakthrough in this episode,
[00:31:03] and it's actually thanks to Sam. That's one of the reasons why at the end of the night, when they're all outside and Ted is about to go enjoy the drink, invites Leslie and Leslie goes up there too. She kind of storms off. She throws the jacket off behind her. I think in that moment, Rebecca is frustrated at herself because I think the plan to move
[00:32:20] Jamie was already done.
[00:32:22] Yeah, because really sticking it to Rupert would have been making the team unbelievably But Sam telling her this is your team is that breakthrough for Rebecca, that Rebecca goes, she sees all of these people come together. And I think that's one of the reasons why she's as frustrated as she is when she walks off. Because I honestly think Rebecca has realized at that point she has made a mistake.
[00:33:40] Yeah, I would say so.
[00:33:42] You know, and I think that glad you knew what it was to anybody. So to anybody who doesn't know out there because He couldn't just blanketly get angry. He needed to find something to inspire him to get angry. Yeah. So he uses that against Jamie because it's a big switch.
[00:36:22] He goes off on that on that whole Allen Iverson speech.
[00:36:26] But by the end, he's like, I really appreciate it. I appreciate it.
[00:37:40] Walking away.
[00:37:42] Like he's still almost like thanking him for doing it as he's walking away. gets to see the fruits of his labor and exasperation maybe play out in a positive way and Rebecca just basically screws him over. Yeah. You know, so like I said, I believe that that deal was already done before all of this before
[00:39:00] the curse breaking ceremony.
[00:39:02] I think it was already done.
[00:39:04] And Rebecca has legitimately, she has come to the realization by the end of this episode. let other people help you. He's got Danny who comes in and is just as good as him, but he has that extra quality that he's a team player and he is a humble team player. He's not arrogant in the slightest. And then you have Ted that loses it on him,
[00:40:21] which nobody has seen Ted become really unglued yet. Parable, that was gross. A newspaper which was from Rebecca, a light up ducky pen, an action figure. Leslie's was very sad. We got the information that the cat died those glasses because those glasses gave him confidence. So because if one if one woman sees that, then other women are going to see that. So he's sacrificing something that gave him confidence. I was okay with that. Okay. I you know what? That's a great way to look at it. I didn't look at it that way.
[00:44:20] But then it's a very go ahead. No, go ahead. He has major father issues in that. One of the reasons why he doesn't pass the ball was because he did that. His father always encouraged him to take the ball. Like to to be the leader to score the goal yourself. Not be the leader. His father didn't want to be the leader. He just wanted him to be the best. Be the star. Be the domination. Yes.
[00:45:21] Yes, I agree. And even more pivotal.
[00:45:23] Yes, 100%.
[00:45:26] So yeah, so I was okay with the fact that we don't see Jamie for a while after this episode.
[00:45:32] Because we needed to see without seeing the little bit of growth.
[00:45:39] So, but what else were you going to talk about when it comes to that?
[00:45:43] I kind of cut you off to talk about that.
[00:45:45] No, that's okay.
[00:46:44] Roy's like, you know, it's known that ghosts like empty bottles of liquor more than full ones.
[00:46:51] I do like it at the beginning when they have that pan out shot and you can tell that the alcohol has gone into the barrel because it goes, whoosh, it goes up in flames. Really, it's nice.
[00:46:57] Yeah, but yeah, you're right. Like it's great that like Danny brings that bottle in.
[00:47:03] They're standing together now as a team around this barrel. It's Jamie's the one that makes big because they were the two guys that he knew were always under his thumb. And now after Ted tells him to go set up the cones, he turns to Colin and he says, Colin go out and set up the cones and Macadoo turns on him and says, no, no, he told you to do it. And he's like, I wasn't talking to you in Collins, like, no, no,
[00:48:21] your second team, you can do it. Yep.
[00:48:24] He's lost the two guys he had under him because of his.
[00:49:24] going to listen to this gaffery's coming in with all this like how he do kind of stuff. But who's the first person to stand up in the pub to tell everybody to shut up and listen?
[00:49:29] Roy.
[00:49:30] It's Roy.
[00:49:31] Yeah.
[00:49:32] Because he's the first person to sacrifice.
[00:49:33] It's Roy.
[00:49:34] Because he sees now it hasn't been thrown in your face that he's come to the realization.
[00:49:41] Roy is very quietly and very under the team, Roy is laughing at that line. He's got this huge smile on his face because he appreciates the lesson and he thinks it's actually funny. Like he has come around to Ted already at this point.
[00:51:02] It's hard not to. Yeah. I mean, that's like-
[00:51:04] Jamie is really the only one now up until this to that moment where Ted confronts Rebecca, I think as audience members, we felt as angry as Ted. 100% because all of a sudden,
[00:52:21] I remember thinking that moment,
[00:52:23] yes, okay, here we go.
[00:52:25] This is going to be great.
[00:52:26] And then the next scene, I was like,
[00:52:27] wait, what? That's what we needed from Rebecca as well. Rebecca needed to hit a very low point in order for her growth to be meaningful because she's hit that point and now we're going to start seeing Rebecca's growth. Finally going forward. Because I mentioned this last episode and I'll mention it again, next episode,
[00:53:42] episode seven has one of my all time favorite moments
[00:53:48] of the entire series. she knows and she feels the connection with Roy. Yes. Because to say like, I feel like I want to take, I wanted to make this feel like we were taking a walk together. She sees there's a connection. She wants Roy to see there's a connection. She is messing with him big time and I love it. Yeah. Like even when she says like when she does that,
[00:55:02] she does the deep dive.
[00:55:04] When she like she mentions to Rebecca,
[00:55:06] she did a deep dive in all the players
[00:55:07] and like, did you know this?
[00:55:08] And did you know this? If like in a if in a long time if ever yes and Keelies being keelie she's going to pursue it. Yeah And then the only other thing I have before we get into spoilers is I'm sorry. I disagree with everybody in the pub
[00:56:24] The departed is one of Scorsese's best. I agree. Yeah
[00:56:27] Forget the color of money. They're all great movies dive into this. Let's dive into spoilers now for this. Where do you want to start? Jamie, Jamie's lowest moment. Yeah. Yeah. I think Jamie's lowest moment is in the locker room when his dad goes in there. Okay, I'm glad you brought that up because I actually have that in my notes too, as something to bring up Dornis in that you're right. We see in the season finale of this season.
[00:58:43] Jamie makes the pass for Man City and wins the game. He's in that small little room with his father,
[00:58:46] where his father is telling him,
[00:58:50] like I didn't bring up my boy to pass the ball.
[00:58:54] Maybe we're thinking of,
[00:58:55] maybe I'm putting both scenes together
[00:58:57] because I'm thinking about when Roy hugs Jamie
[00:59:00] at the after that.
[00:59:01] That's next season.
[00:59:02] Okay.
[00:59:04] Well, that's very similar.
[00:59:05] That's one where, sees that happen. And Jamie sees Ted. Yeah. He knows that Ted has seen it. It's a very exposing, vulnerable moment for Jamie too, when your personal life bleeds into your professional life. I've had that happen before and it is an unnerving experience. I just had's the point I was trying to make no But I get that I told I totally get that so yeah I think Jamie's lowest moment is any moment that he has with his father is one of his low well until the end of the series Because there's actually a very heartwarming a moment that happens, you know, I
[01:01:41] And this is somebody with her own daddy issues, right?
[01:01:44] I would have been okay And that's just my, the, the coldest, deadest, blackest part of my heart. Fair enough. You have every right, every right to feel that. Everybody has a cold, dead, black heart of, part of their heart. We all have it and it just comes out in certain moments and this is mine. So fair, fair enough, fair enough.
[01:03:04] The only other thing I have for, I was like, oh, and I was immediately transported to that episode that you're talking about. I was like, oh, man, Jamie, you just had a messed up life, didn't you, friend? Well, because when we, well, because when we, when we hear that the first time, we just kind of laugh at it because like, that's something Jamie would call himself is a sexy little
[01:04:21] baby. His mom really did call him that. Yes. Like they had a very
[01:05:23] if you're just coming back in and you're here in Kristen gag, that is for good reason.
[01:05:24] What a great moment that we ended that on.
[01:05:29] I love, like I said, in the beginning, Nate asking coach
[01:05:33] beard, like is he all right?
[01:05:34] And be like, no.
[01:05:36] And then because he knows Ted so well to know,
[01:05:40] like Ted is going through some shit right now.
[01:05:42] Right, yeah.
[01:05:44] You know, I'll say another one of mine to win Ted
[01:06:42] and Ted responds, that is true Sam. But it's also something that a lot of female singer-songwriters
[01:06:44] are trying to change.
[01:06:46] That every single time I hear Sarah McLaughlin,
[01:06:49] to this day, I'm like, turn it off.
[01:06:51] Turn it off.
[01:06:51] I see the shaking one-eyed dog every single time.
[01:06:55] Anyone of her songs play.
[01:06:56] I just see that one.
[01:06:57] I think it's a shishisu or a lassa opso or something
[01:07:01] has one eye and it's shaking.
[01:07:04] It's trembling.
[01:07:06] And it's, the dessert. Rebecca. Yes, like flan. Ted. Yeah. No, I don't dig on flan. Ted Lasso plan, plan. And then the continuum on later on when he walks into the
[01:08:21] coach's room, he's like, plan, finally get what they deserve. That's a really good moment. Well, even in, like we see that a little bit with Nate as well, like, cause Ted says something like, like what I'm trying to make this hurt in his soul and Nate starts laughing. He's like, oh, I'm sorry. I shouldn't have laughed at that. Well, we see a little,
[01:09:40] we see a little bit of, of, of Nate come out just a little bit.
[01:09:45] Yeah.
[01:09:46] Well, because Nate's also happy It's weird because I kind of see a lot of similarities too because I remember like when I played, I actually played soccer in high school and I had some football soccer when we played now. I did play soccer in high school and there was another member on the team. His name was Joe.
[01:11:00] I will refrain from last name. Joe and I did not get along. Like the score, the goal that Joe scored, I assisted on your coach probably felt so good about that. He had his own Ted Lasso moment at that point. Probably. Yeah. I'm sure he did because the, he still thinks about that. The goal that I scored was assisted by Joe. If that, that coach is still alive, my guess is that he watched Ted Lasso
[01:12:22] and was like, I was Ben and Joe.
[01:12:24] I did that Ben and Joe.
[01:13:21] So look, it is. I wouldn't.
[01:13:22] And to be completely honest with you, had Joe and I probably not got injured in the same
[01:13:28] game and sat out two games together, I don't think I would have ever forgiven Joe.
[01:13:32] Well, I would probably, I have forgiven them for what they did to me, but I would still,
[01:13:37] I wouldn't piss in their ear if their brain was on fire.
[01:13:40] I love that insult so much.
[01:13:47] I was really excited to look him up. There you go. Any other are all married now. So I can't even look them up because they were all girls. They changed their names. Any other final notes on on this episode, any quotes or anything like that?
[01:15:01] No, I'm good.
[01:15:02] OK.
[01:15:04] So then with that being said, that Lindsey, for the feedback last week and this week. Yes. And that brings us once again to a voicemail from our friend, Steve Brown. So let's go ahead and play that now. Hello, Ben and Christian. This is Steve and this is for Ted Lasso,
[01:16:20] episode six, two aces.
[01:16:22] Man, I forgot. And you guys are really making me see on this, this
[01:17:21] I forgot totally about that. And gosh, I'm gonna have to look at his film list again
[01:17:24] to figure out which one I think is the number one
[01:17:27] from Mars for Saezy.
[01:17:29] But of course the real answer is taxi driver.
[01:17:31] The one nobody mentioned this scene.
[01:17:33] Why am I not surprised that Jamie doesn't understand
[01:17:35] what Pavlovian means?
[01:17:37] Oh dang, I just got choked up.
[01:17:39] Sam telling Rebecca she's part of the team.
[01:17:42] Oh, Jamie does show up for this burning.
[01:17:46] I love seeing all these background players
[01:17:47] that we don't know to leave us feedback.
[01:19:02] And the easiest way to do that,
[01:19:04] go to our website, revisitedpod.com.
[01:19:06] There you can find out where to subscribe,
[01:19:08] listen, all that fun stuff. The episode, the moment you and I were kind of like, we can't wait to talk about it. It's happening. Yeah. It's two episodes from now, not one. So I was. Well, no, but I think the make Rebecca great again. Isn't that also when Ted has his anxiety attack? Yes. That's the moment I'm talking about. Yeah, I'm excited. It is a huge moment for Ted and Rebecca. I have a whole. But it is a very past and present kind of mix up with instead of middle school students, it's high school students. And you know, you've got the older, the older generation of parents that were involved in
[01:21:41] something that happened 30 years ago in 1993 and their kids are about to get real hardcore into goosebumps because we missed Stranger Things so much. So anyways, we binged, I think, five or six episodes last night, like just all in a row. And it was great. It was really great. Like, I had to do podcast prep last night late and I had to like all this other stuff, but it was just totally
[01:23:01] worth it because at the end of every episode, my kids are like, another, another. And I
[01:23:05] was like, and they're like, is it too late? Do thoroughly enjoyed that. Okay, I'll write that down. I thought that was a lot of fun and it does reference a lot of, like so basically the plot of the movie. 90s nostalgia, it's awesome. Well, so basically the plot of the movie
[01:24:20] is that a kid moves in to a house
[01:24:23] and the person who lives next door is R.L. Stein.
[01:25:21] No, not yet. Because R.L. Stein is in the Goosebumps movie.
[01:25:23] He does have a cameo in the Goosebumps movie.
[01:25:26] He has not shown up yet.
[01:25:28] How's that?
[01:25:29] I don't know if he's going to show up because we're still in the season, but I really hope
[01:25:33] that there's more seasons.
[01:25:34] I think it's a really good alternative to Stranger Things for kids that may not be
[01:25:38] ready for Stranger Things, but still want a show that's kind of like that.
[01:25:42] I think it's a Matthew Perry movie, and I told Ben that I'm not, not, not, maybe next week. Well, okay, to be fair, if you had that movie for almost a month now and hadn't watched it yet, even before Matthew Bets. And my life is insane.
[01:27:00] I know.
[01:27:01] Well, I mean, the beautiful, the great thing about MovieSwap
[01:27:04] is that we do them when we can.
[01:27:05] It's not anything that has to be done on a weekly basis. next week. But yeah, but with movie swap, we kind of like, five minutes of our pain exactly. We do them when we can be, but they're fun when we can do them. Yeah. So, but yeah, now we got to, we got to pivot a little bit so that you don't have to watch that Matthew Perry movie. No, I'm going to watch it. Just give me a
[01:28:20] few days.
[01:28:22] Well, you've got time. I was going to sit down and watch it
