[00:00:00] Mmm?
[00:00:01] Ah!
[00:00:02] Mmm.
[00:00:03] That gets me done.
[00:00:06] Now listen, you two knuckleheads have split our locker room in half.
[00:00:10] And when it comes to locker rooms, I like them just like my mother's bathing suits.
[00:00:13] I only want to see them in one piece here.
[00:00:15] So we fixing this.
[00:00:16] Coming with the biggest issue you got with each other.
[00:00:18] Go.
[00:00:19] These are pieces of shit.
[00:00:20] If his brain was on fire, I wouldn't be pissing his ear.
[00:00:22] Well, hey, you don't need to be best friends and be great teammates.
[00:00:25] Think about Shaq and Cody, right?
[00:00:27] Lending in McCartney?
[00:00:28] Heck, even Woody and Buzz got under each other. Yeah, I might be all that you can name either, but I follow him on Instagram. I love him. The one that did the, for the children. For the children. Yeah. Uh, uh, uh, uh, question five. Question five. I've made it to the finals a couple of times.
[00:03:01] That's awesome.
[00:03:02] I never did.
[00:03:04] I think the most money I ever won in HQ trivia was,
[00:04:12] But you know they had to throw those questions in every once in a while that were like really going to cut like 90 percent of the people left after that of the people that guessed correctly. Yeah, pretty much or David Schwimmer.
[00:04:14] And I bet you he doesn't even know.
[00:04:18] He probably doesn't.
[00:04:21] Anyways, let's talk about Ted Lasso. Because it's a giant hug. It really is. But yeah, this episode for the children, I got to tell you, I'm just going to put this out there and then we'll I'll turn it over to you to get us started. This is the episode that I think marks the first time I ever got choked up at a moment
[00:05:41] in this.
[00:05:42] There are many throughout the round of the show.
[00:05:46] There are moments that got me choked up and there are moments that flat out made me and Keeley with the decision to break up with Jamie. You see a nice little moment between Roy and Keeley as well, which is wonderful. You see that Sam Obisanya is delightful in every way. Yes. You know, Ted,
[00:07:02] Ted man, Ted comes through in just the tettest way
[00:07:06] he could possibly ever Ted. as you mentioned of Ted and its finest because we are now, we talked about how none of these characters are surface characters, we're now starting to see below the surface of some of these characters. Which is really wonderful. And Rebecca's a big one, I think. Rebecca, I think it's the biggest one in this episode. Mm-hmm. Of... And Keeley.
[00:08:21] Keeley, we kind of saw it a little bit already,
[00:08:24] but we're definitely way to describe it. And yeah, she is, by the end of this episode, you're right.
[00:09:44] We do see a lot more. Oh, god, Lee, so bad. Yeah. Because, I mean, the episode starts with Jamie just purposely getting under Roy's skin.
[00:11:00] Yeah. And it almost leads to a huge, well, it leads to a confrontation, but it really get that feeling, you know? It's not get too off track though. Let's go back to Jamie for a minute. Yeah, sorry. If we're done with Keeley, I mean, cause Keeley, there's, again, we'll go into more specifics as we get through. But yeah, like Jamie is, we do kind of see a little bit of a breakthrough
[00:12:21] with Jamie though, but it comes a little too late
[00:12:26] for him in this, we hate each other, but we're on the same team kind of thing. You know, we respect each other's talent. It's interesting to see them how this episode starts, the two of them how they start in this episode and how they end. In this episode, because, you know, we get Jamie calling Roy granddad because he really tells him, like, don't call me old man anymore.
[00:13:44] So he calls him granddad because that's Jamie being a dick.
[00:14:45] happens before Roy is it happens after Jamie's auction before Roy is auctioned.
[00:14:47] I don't know. I think you're wrong.
[00:14:48] Not wrong.
[00:14:52] I have watched this episode four times in that's a lot. But I love this episode.
[00:14:54] I know.
[00:14:55] But I also I also watched it three times before we were initially supposed to record.
[00:15:00] And yes, well, one more time before we actually record before actually recording.
[00:16:01] I'll be right back. I'll be right back.
[00:16:02] I'll be right back.
[00:16:03] I'll be right back.
[00:16:04] I'll be right back.
[00:16:05] I'll be right back.
[00:16:06] I'll be right back.
[00:16:07] I'll be right back.
[00:16:08] I'll be right back.
[00:16:09] I'll be right back.
[00:16:10] I'll be right back.
[00:16:11] I'll be right back.
[00:16:12] I'll be right back.
[00:16:13] I'll be right back.
[00:16:14] I'll be right back.
[00:16:15] I'll be right back.
[00:16:16] I'll be right back.
[00:16:17] I'll be right back.
[00:16:18] I'll be right back.
[00:16:19] I'll be right back.
[00:16:20] I'll be right back.
[00:16:21] I'll be right back.
[00:16:22] I'll be right back.
[00:16:23] I'll be right back.
[00:16:24] I'll be right back.
[00:16:25] I'll be right back.
[00:16:26] I'll be right back.
[00:16:27] I'll be right back.
[00:16:28] I'll be right back.
[00:16:29] I'll be right back. And it's okay. Yeah, so Kiwi Hassel actually was dating Jason Sudeikis at the time that they were filming this season one. And I think into season two, they were also dating. So yeah, we get to meet Bex for the first time
[00:17:41] who we find out a little bit later on
[00:17:43] in the episode was Jamie's other plus one
[00:18:45] I want to say too, as far as Jamie and his brand,
[00:18:52] in that scene where he's getting dressed with Keely and he decides like he doesn't like how he looks
[00:18:55] and then he decides to like take his shirt off
[00:19:00] because it's his style.
[00:19:04] Look, I have no problem saying this.
[00:19:06] He looks damn good in that fucking suit. mouthful, like this is a whole spoonful. Who does that? Who eats soup like that? Tipped back in his chair and just like dropping it into his mouth. The whole time watching, I'm like, if my son, if my 10 year old son did this, I would be like, who, what, where do you think you are?
[00:20:20] You're right.
[00:20:21] Who eats soup like casually leaning back in a chair?
[00:20:25] My ass is over that bowl.
[00:20:27] Yeah, uh-huh.
[00:20:28] Totally. I remember when Kobe Bryant in his rookie year, and I think even beyond his rookie year, but I remember in his rookie year, he had a financial manager. He had somebody that gave him an allowance and told him what he could and couldn't spend. And he used to be notorious for tipping terribly because he wasn't allowed to spend more money,
[00:21:41] and he had spent all his money. Not to mention money that he's gotten probably in endorsement deals and everything outside of the team, which you're going to soon realize, at least if we haven't already, Keeley's a big part of that. A huge part of that. She knows how to build a brand. She knows how to be a public face.
[00:23:01] That's probably why he's dating her. You know, like in just in that split 30 seconds, she took Rebecca from, oh my gosh, how am I going to do this by myself too? I'm Rebecca. She instilled confidence. Yes. Through a joke. Yeah. Mm-hmm. That is powerful shit.
[00:24:20] Yes. I sheet, she's a lot more than we
[00:24:24] as the audience gives her credit for
[00:24:26] than what the other characters give her credit for. Super earn on his Chinese and he's got tomato super burn on his nipple. Yeah, because he's a child. Yeah, he's a child. I mean, the only thing that Jamie the only thing that Jamie took from this, the only thing that Jamie acquires from this entire night is he is maybe a little bit of Roy's respect.
[00:26:41] I wish he was dead. And then when they toast, Jamie's like,
[00:26:43] well, here's the a dying.
[00:26:44] Yeah.
[00:26:48] But you know, Roy would never have gotten
[00:26:49] that perspective without Ted.
[00:26:51] Yeah.
[00:26:52] You know, he, Roy even needed to take a step back
[00:26:54] from his own feelings and his own,
[00:26:56] not only his insecurities, but just his own arrogance,
[00:27:00] you know, because you see that he's taken down
[00:27:03] a couple of notches too.
[00:27:04] Hey, Roy, you're not the guy that you used to be,
[00:27:06] but you can be a real leader. Kiele and Jamie. When Roy approaches Kiele, because we do, we get that moment where Jamie saying like he doesn't get jealous and Kiele sees an opportunity to kind of test that in bidding for Roy to make Jamie jealous in this very clearly and rightfully so pisses Roy
[00:28:20] off. And he approaches he confronts Kiele. And you know, it's sad to watch. It's infuriating to watch. And I think that's the problem with Jamie, is that you know that with
[00:29:40] very small tweaks, he could is always room for growth.
[00:31:00] Always.
[00:31:01] Take podcasting, for example, I've been podcast let's chat. Right. But that only comes by being coachable, by wanting to learn, by wanting to grow, and by accepting the fact that you are going to make mistakes. That's just inevitable. Yeah, Yeah. Period. Exactly. Um, I love you. So we've talked, though. I love talking about him. He's in. Yeah. Furiating as hell, man, but he's good TV.
[00:33:42] Yeah.
[00:33:43] Yeah.
[00:33:44] I agree with you.
[00:33:45] And he is a actual musician. And he's phenomenal. He's really good. Like go do yourself a favor.
[00:35:02] Look for some of his music on Spotify, go on YouTube and check out some of his
[00:35:05] videos. Also on Amazon. I've ever seen. And not only that, but you kind of put two and two together a little bit later when Nate poorly tries to make that joke. Like when Keiley
[00:36:24] compliments him on the suit saying you look good, That's Ted Lasso. Yeah, but also too, I love seeing Nate trying to be charming. When he's at the bar and he orders the martini and he gets the martini and he drinks the martini, like there's a little bit of a connection between him and that bartender. Yeah.
[00:37:40] And so the bartender turns around and he spoo have an amazing friendship and we're going to, that's going to get explored later. Right now we're on the main characters of the show. And Sam, Opusania. And Sam, Opusania, which as you mentioned,
[00:39:00] it's very quick, but when they're on the red carpet
[00:39:03] and Sam's like, thank you for taking my picture.
[00:39:05] What are your names? So, yeah, so let's dive into Rebecca, Ted, and as you mentioned, we are meeting for the first time. Rupert B. Our villain. Yeah. Our villain for the series, basically. Yep. You know, and we get a lot about this.
[00:40:21] And I think this is, we needed to meet we've seen a look of submission on Rebecca's. Yes. That's good. Because I think that's what she's always done in Rupert's presence as she's submitted.
[00:41:42] You see you see it physically happen to you. What she did is a mark of long term abuse, long term abuse. She does not believe in herself because this man has told her that she's worthless, has told her that she is nothing without him. So her saying that is her trying
[00:43:00] to trying to appease him, because that's what she's still on this vendetta to kill the club. And Ted is the person that she's using to kill the club. And every single time we see her soften, she just kind of like shakes it out.
[00:44:23] And she's like, no, I'm going to be Rebecca the bitch and not Rebecca the club owner.
[00:45:22] That's it, because he calls her on it. He even says, like, you know, when Ted says,
[00:45:25] when they're talking about the losses and Ted says,
[00:45:27] like, well, I'm hopeful that we'll come back.
[00:45:29] And Rupert's like, well, you know,
[00:45:31] because you're telling me I have faith
[00:45:32] that this is going to happen because I believe in you, Ted.
[00:45:35] Well, you know, hopefully Rebecca believes in you
[00:45:37] as much as I do, and he calls her on it.
[00:45:41] And it's then that Rebecca starts to realize
[00:45:43] this plan's not working.
[00:45:45] Like this is this plan I have, he knows. She's kind of alone and Ted comes out to make sure, to talk about the whole Robbie Williams thing, but sees this in Rebecca. Because we've learned over the past episodes already and just these few that we had. Ted is very observant when it comes to things of emotionality. He picks up on them very quickly.
[00:47:01] And all he needs to do is look at Rebecca's face
[00:47:04] to know she's distraught.
[00:47:06] Right. and then we see her hug him back. It takes a minute, but yeah, she gives into the hug and I think she needed it. I think she needed it. And I also think it's a huge realization to her at that moment right then and there. What she's doing is wrong. Oh yeah. But she still, we'll talk about that later.
[00:48:21] Yeah.
[00:48:23] What she is doing is wrong. and tell him to come back and play, it dawns on me that you could have just as easily told not to play. And Rupert's like, wow, it would just make me a real piece of shit, wouldn't it? Yeah, it would. It would. And Ted knows. And Rupert knows that Ted knows. That's the best part. That you are a real piece of
[00:49:40] shit. There are some really good we know that they know we know. I mean, so again, like, yeah, that moment with Ted and Rebecca outside when Rebecca hugs him back, that's the moment. That's the first time in this series that I was like, I'm getting choked up at this. This is a very empowering episode for a couple for quite a few people.
[00:51:03] I agree. Yeah, to the UK. Yeah, so next episode they're coming. They're gonna be there. Yeah, we're gonna be his wife and his son right oh There was also Rupert saying oh well Rebecca can absolutely beat our numbers I have no doubt that she can to Rebecca in that conversation, like I dated a 20, you know, I dated a whatever age it was. I dated like a 20. I'm almost 30 and still dating a 23 year old footballer.
[00:53:42] I'm Leonardo DiCaprio.
[00:53:44] Yeah, yeah, exactly.
[00:53:46] My favorite line.
[00:54:42] my favorite little nonchalant little moments. It's very subtle, but like you could see like Rebecca is like almost in desperation.
[00:54:50] She's like, oh, yeah, whatever.
[00:54:51] Like let this guy go up.
[00:54:52] It's Cam something.
[00:54:54] And then he starts to perform and she's genuinely surprised.
[00:54:59] Yeah.
[00:54:59] Like in the best way because we have that moment with, and it's, it's one of my favorite
[00:55:04] scenes.
[00:55:05] It's Rebecca, Ted, and.
[00:55:08] Leslie. And I love from the beginning. And it's just, we've seen multiple samples of it already, but I love the fact that Rebecca is somebody at this point who is constantly putting down Higgins. But Ted is always there, like just trying his best to empower him. And it happens multiple times throughout this episode.
[00:56:22] I mean, early on in the episode when Rebecca is going
[00:56:24] through all the costumes and trying to avoid Ted's pajama reflects a little bit. Yeah, it's stressing him out to like this guy and to also be a part of this weird secret plan to destroy him. But he also can't help it. Like he can't help but like Ted. Nobody can. No, nobody nobody really can. He is an addicting personality that people just want in their life period.
[00:57:41] Yeah. Yeah, that's definitely a better way to put it. Um, let me see. Go through my notes here. I love the mentions of West Side Story.
[00:59:03] When I was 15, I was an understudy for Anita.
[00:59:07] We'll talk about that when we get the quotes.
[00:59:08] Yeah. Um,
[01:00:02] with some spoilery territory,
[01:00:09] is there's a good theme here by the end of it. And it really comes at Cam Cole,
[01:00:13] because Cam Cole, you know, when Ted brings Cam in,
[01:00:17] he tells her, Pekka, don't judge him by the way he looks.
[01:00:21] Basically, do not judge a book by its cover.
[01:01:26] Yes, he's still waiting to meet Rebecca. He knows what he because like you said earlier, he can see through people pretty quickly
[01:01:30] He knows why he's there. He knows why he's there Yeah, and that's not gonna stop him from doing anything that he wants to do. He's a great coach
[01:01:36] Yeah, I agree completely
[01:01:38] Mm-hmm. So any final notes before we kind of jump into the spoiler territory and then we go into quotes. No
[01:01:45] No Yeah, exactly. He thinks that he's perfect and that that'll never happened because he's perfect. You know, I really love the fact that you have Rebecca and Keeley talking about her relationship with Jamie. I'm glad you brought this up because this isn't my notes too. Oh, I don't know what you're going to bring up. I don't think you know which direction I'm going in, but I can't wait to
[01:03:01] see what you're about to say. Okay, go ahead Rebecca do in season two? Oh, yeah. Yeah. Well,
[01:04:23] he's Sam and that's different.
[01:05:24] Caprio because that's exactly what we're back at does in the next season.
[01:05:27] She can somebody significantly younger than her.
[01:05:31] Yeah, but at least he had a higher emotional IQ.
[01:05:35] Well, not only that, but when you think about it, like it makes,
[01:05:40] it makes Sam seem even more intelligent and successful to realize that in season one, he just turned 20 in season two, he opens his own restaurant.
[01:05:46] Season three.
[01:06:42] Yeah, also true. I was so scared of the direction
[01:06:44] that they were gonna go in with that.
[01:06:46] I was so scared.
[01:06:47] I was really thankful that they didn't.
[01:06:48] No!
[01:06:50] That's so good to wear.
[01:06:52] Let's see, what else do I have?
[01:06:56] I will say too, it's...
[01:06:58] Oh, doesn't beard end up with this girl?
[01:07:00] Oh yeah, this is who he marries.
[01:07:01] This is who he ultimately ends up with.
[01:07:03] Okay, yeah, that's what I thought.
[01:07:04] They're off and on, I think at the end, he receives the divorce papers. If not, at the end of this episode is the next episode because that's when he starts having the panic attacks. Yeah, it's shortly after he starts having this panic attack. I think you're right. I think it might be within the next two episodes, we're gonna see the reciprocation of that.
[01:08:22] And it's...
[01:08:23] Yeah, that's when we get the breakthrough
[01:08:25] with Rebecca is almost there. Yeah, we get to meet Sassy.
[01:09:41] Who I was shipping Ted and Sassy so hard.
[01:09:44] And we get a little bit of it, but...
[01:10:41] kind of brought out some. But that's also a perfect relationship, the fly-in fly-out kind of relationship that Ted
[01:10:45] Lasso needs.
[01:10:46] I know we're not there yet, but it's one of my favorite.
[01:10:52] It's kind of getting a little bit ahead, but we're in spoilers so I can talk about it now.
[01:10:55] It's one of probably my favorite moments, I think, from one of the funniest moments
[01:10:59] of the entire series.
[01:11:00] And it happens in season one is when Ted meetsed every single character in this series is. Yeah, they were ready to go. From Rebecca and Ted down to Higgins and Nate, every single character is multifaceted.
[01:12:20] The only other thing I think I really have in as far as spoiler goes is during the conversation Jamie Tarte to be quite honest is that I know, okay, there's just an act. He's fine. He's Jamie Tarte. We love him. We love him. We know who Jamie is going to become. Yeah. And thankfully it doesn't take too long. We kind of, we remain with this Jamie through season one until maybe the end of season one
[01:13:44] when we start to say a little bit of a breakthrough in Jamie.
[01:13:47] And then he has to leave. talk. Go ahead. Go ahead. I like my locker rooms. Like I left my mother's bathing suits. I only want to see them in one piece. We kind of touched on this one a little bit earlier. But coach tell these boys with the first rule of fight club is no fight club. Roy Kent, no, no, fuck you, fuck no, no, no, fuck off. No.
[01:15:03] Logging through the red carpet line. Just doesn't give a shit
[01:15:06] about his picture. That's a it's a harsh line in a harsh reality. Yeah. Yeah, and I think that's what made Keiley say oh Yeah, okay. Yeah Okay, how about you? I Don't really have many others. I have the other one though. We kind of made mention of it earlier Rebecca to Ted. So what should I make fun of myself about? Oh
[01:16:23] And it Ted just kind of like fumbling with it and Rebecca said you're not gonna walk over 300 pounds, you have to fuck her. Is that real? I'm feeling like no, no, but you get a little bit finger stuff. Oh God. You know, David and I always say that it. All right, so that brings us to the feedback section of the podcast in which we have a couple, which is great. A couple came in for, you know, write-ins as well as a couple pieces of voicemail, which aren't great as well. So yeah, I always highly encourage you guys to leave us the
[01:19:01] feedback for the episodes because we love talking about it and we love reading it and listening to
[01:19:04] it. So that said, why don't you, let. Hello, Lindsey says, I love this episode so much. Definitely a stand out. For me, it's when we finally start to see the real Rebecca. And as one of my favorite characters,
[01:20:22] I am so glad because wow, has it been weird to be reminded of what a shit she was in the beginning, Tells a story about Rupert as a poor child. Isn't that what I said? No, but that's a thing. Just a quote. What is his story? How did he get so rich? Is it crime? Is he a movie star? Bruce Wayne. It is such a head trip to watch this episode and see Anthony head as a villain again. Since I'm rewatching Buffy the Vampire Slayer right now,
[01:21:40] his Buffy character is this mild-mannered librarian
[01:21:42] father figure also named Rupert.
[01:21:44] It's weird.
[01:21:45] I didn't think about that. but seasons one and two I've watched I think three times each and I'm really excited to be joining you on this journey I've been really busy over the past few weeks both working on my own podcast as well as taking a vacation and camping and Finally able to provide some feedback. Hopefully you get this in before the deadline anyway for this feedback
[01:23:02] I'm not gonna get too much into details about the episodes
[01:24:12] over the past few years for a sense of peace and relief that hit on comedy and social issues with such an upbeat manner. Ted Lasso is up at the top, but I've also been watching our flag means death, which is I love that show so much. It is basically a Taika YTD scripted LGBTQ plus pirate series. Then I have to see it. It is, and Taika plays Blackbeard the Pirate.
[01:25:42] Is it appropriate for a 12 year old?
[01:26:45] He changed it to I miss you. Oh Sam is so sweet trying to learn all the photographers names. That's great. Keeley's great supporting Rebecca the way she just did. She's so pretty. This is
[01:26:51] the person we've seen Jane right in the whole chest thing with beard. I love how this is going
[01:26:55] to be a running thing throughout series. Oh what a jerk Rupert. You just took that guy's glasses
[01:27:01] champagne and you. Oh another pre-COVID-U moment that he took that drink spit it back in and that just bid on Roy and she flipped off Jamie. Yeah, we're seeing this relationship going downhill is we were smillion pounds for the children again, Mike drop. I love it. Keely breaks up with Jamie and then she's like, can I take these to take two champagne bottles? All right, on the next week. Thank you, Steve. I don't you can't see us anymore because we don't do video, but it's fun
[01:28:24] that every time we sense you're about to do us feedback, which we again, highly encourage you guys to do, you can send us feedback for the next two episodes over the course of the week. Just do us a favor and send them separately. So if you're going to send a voicemail for five
[01:29:42] and a voicemail for six,
[01:29:43] send it into separate voicemails.
[01:29:45] If you're going it on this morning and had like seven tax messages from me.
[01:31:01] Just from you, yeah, no.
[01:31:03] My phone went nuts on the show. It's basically a show about like how if you're dying
[01:32:20] or if you're in a car accident,
[01:32:22] rather than die, you can upload your consciousness
[01:32:24] onto a server. procedural, but he is a behavioral specialist at a college in DC who uses that to help the FBI in crime. Ooh, I want to see that. It is so good because I'm learning so much about behavior just in watching this series.
[01:33:42] You should watch Criminal Minds.
[01:33:43] I know you've been recommending that to me for a while.
[01:33:45] It's one of my all-time favorite television shows.
[01:34:43] and hey, we had Jack just sucks from Steve for a while. Jack does suck.
[01:34:44] I'm doing my re-re-re-re-re-watch with my kids.
[01:34:48] Jack still sucks.
[01:34:50] Don't worry everybody.
[01:34:51] Jack still sucks.
[01:34:55] So cool with that being said, again,
[01:34:58] leave us feedback for the next two episodes
[01:35:00] so that we don't miss anything out on the week.
[01:35:02] But until next time, we'll see you again.
[01:35:04] Oh shit, sorry.
[01:35:07] Before we did. Not too long ago. How Wheel of Time just wrapped up. So there's a number of shows wrapping up, but that just means
