[00:00:00] Mmm?
[00:00:01] Ah!
[00:00:02] Mmm.
[00:00:03] Fuck me.
[00:00:04] Why did you get these?
[00:00:05] I'm glad you like them.
[00:00:06] You know what?
[00:00:07] I'll start bringing these to you every morning.
[00:00:08] Call biscuits with the boss.
[00:00:09] That really isn't necessary.
[00:00:10] Okay, well Mark this down is the first time we disagree then.
[00:00:12] Actually no, second time.
[00:00:14] Tea is horrible.
[00:00:15] Absolute garbage water.
[00:00:16] I don't know why y'all do that.
[00:00:18] You know we can't really be a good partner since we get to know each other, right?
[00:00:22] Ted.
[00:00:23] We're going to start simple.
[00:00:24] Really good.
[00:00:25] I'm a child. to leave the feedback for yes and encourage all feedback even if you say love the episode the end good great yep good. Still read it it's fine and you're going to hear this a lot throughout the coverage of this man. Episode two again just reminds me how much i adore the show.
[00:04:04] moment that we're recording right now. You're listening to our coverage of episode two, but we are recording episodes two and three back to back because Kristen will be on the trip next weekend.
[00:04:08] Yes, I will. And we did not want to miss a week. Like we have done so many times with loss. Like
[00:04:13] we want to make sure we go through with it. We are staying on schedule people.
[00:04:18] So when you're listening to episode three next of the podcast, aka the show notes, as I am giving time stamps in there because we will keep the discussion as spoiler free as possible. However, at the end of the discussion, we will dive into some spoilers. So if you have not seen the show before, this is your first time viewing. We want you to
[00:05:43] avoid that section because we want you to enjoy unless you're okay with players. And the players are just giving him a lot of, a lot of kind of pushback for it. You know, Ted is trying, he's trying a lot of teacher tricks, I would say. You know, with a suggestion box and with trying to pinpoint kind of the person
[00:07:00] that could turn it all around.
[00:07:06] Right, is that where we are?
[00:07:07] Yeah. We don't get a lot of, there's a number of characters
[00:08:21] we've been introduced to in Namely, Macadou, Colin.
[00:08:25] French guy.
[00:08:27] French guy. great deep looks into who these characters that are important to this first season. Yeah and I think Sam is one of those characters and Sam Obisanya. Did I say that right? Obisanya, yes. Oh my gosh I'm so excited. Every time I get that right I get really excited. But you know we learned that his birthday is
[00:09:41] coming up, he's homesick and he's well because I don't think Sam by his innate nature is a selfish player. And so he doesn't really know how to play with this teammate of his who is going to kind of crush him at every turn to make himself, Jamie, look better than the rest of his teammates.
[00:11:02] Yeah, because you said, his arrogance. But you see in this one little tiny conversation between him and Trent Krimm, he does want to be better, but he doesn't know how he can't get out of his own way.
[00:12:20] And it's small and it's a nice piece of foreshadowing
[00:12:23] for what eventually sets up his character.
[00:12:27] Well, not only that,
[00:12:28] but there's another moment this episode too I mean, like, and that right there, like, as funny as that line is, it really does denote a little bit more of Jamie's character. Jamie, as much of a selfish character as he seems, is a little bit more in tune with himself than I think Jamie even realizes it this time. Yeah, I mean, his arrogance is, his arrogance is toxic, but his self confidence is healthy.
[00:14:45] enough and her knowledge enough to take her advice in dealing with Jamie. And I do think that he chipped away a very tiny chip of that wall that Jamie keeps around
[00:14:49] him, which is nice to see.
[00:14:51] Yeah.
[00:14:52] And I think there's still a lot of, you know, and I think part of the things with Jamie too,
[00:14:58] is that Jamie, I think Jamie kind of knows that Ted is getting to him a little bit, but on
[00:15:05] the surface, he doesn't're getting ahead of ourselves. Yes. We're not going to do like we did with Lost. Well, let's go back. I wasn't going to mention any reasons why it made me ball.
[00:16:20] Let's go back to Sam's birthday. I don't know how we got Jamie here.
[00:17:22] and you've re-watched the show several times, you understand exactly what that is, the Be a Goldfish.
[00:17:27] Well, we can mention it because he doesn't-
[00:17:29] Oh yeah, I'm just-
[00:17:29] I'm- I'm- I'm- I'm-
[00:17:30] Vamping right now
[00:17:31] because I'm trying to get to the conversation.
[00:17:33] Okay. It's basically the reason why he tells Sam
[00:17:37] to be a goldfish is because a goldfish has a 10 second memory.
[00:17:41] Right, so here it is.
[00:17:42] It's Sam, coach, I'm sorry, Ted.
[00:17:44] You know what the happiest animal on earth is?
[00:17:47] It's a goldfish.
[00:17:47] You know why Sam? And last week we talked about like how helpful this show was for certain people during tough times and it still remains that today and I think because There really are a lot of life lessons throughout this entire story and be a goldfish be a goldfish is one that I like
[00:19:04] Every single person who watches this show should take
[00:19:08] like don't let anything bother you and it's gone. That's healthy. Yeah, because it's being a goldfish. Like, you know, and then once I delete it, I actually feel better. Yeah, well, it's kind of those things where it's like, you know, anybody that celebrates Festivists, right? You get the Festivists poll and you put on all of your grievances and then that's the end.
[00:20:22] Or if you write down all of your grievances
[00:20:25] and you burn it in a trash pile
[00:20:27] or you send it on its way in a balloon, Yeah, I mean, and I love the fact that Sam is still very open about his emotions, which we're definitely gonna see later But when when Ted gives him the army man Like he he doesn't just take it and be like, okay, like like he tells him like do you mind if I give this back to you? You know People say he goes because imperialism. Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah. Yeah, and Ted totally gets it
[00:22:41] There's balloons. I mean, they just lost this game at the end against Crystal Palace,
[00:22:44] and they're all celebrating, and he's not making them feel bad.
[00:22:48] And I think that that is such a crucial thing to learn in sports is that it is OK to lose.
[00:22:55] It's OK to lose and still smile at the end.
[00:22:59] You know, that's something that we really don't see a lot.
[00:23:03] We see temper tantrums on television and we see people refusing to play, Because the first one was the suggestion box. And then the second one was the collection box in which everybody took up the collection for Sam. Everybody put Jamie and that kind of shows more of his arrogance. And again, at this point in time, he's a dick. He's a dick.
[00:24:20] And I think it's safe to say he's always a dick.
[00:24:24] Yes. more of a dick. It makes him worse, yeah. It definitely makes him worse. It makes him worse. But I love the fact in this rewatch that the writers are making you intentionally hate Jamie. Oh, and they're doing a smashing job at it as the UK people would say. They're doing a... I'm sorry.
[00:25:40] It just made me think of one of my quotes for this when you said, as the British people
[00:25:45] would say, when Jamie don't remember them. So there are, I'll name a couple of them, but there's two of there's one in particular that kind of sticks out. So on the screen, when she's searching for Rupert Manian, there's Rupert Manian divorce, Rupert Manian net worth, Rupert Manian height, Rupert Manian age, Rupert Manian cheating,
[00:27:04] Rupert Manian facts, Rupert Manian AFC Richmond, Rupert Manian models.
[00:28:22] But there's one I left out because it says Rupert Manian penis search is that people are wondering how he gets all these hot women. Money. It's money. Is this guy have a big penis like? Nope, just money. That's money. Lots of money. But getting back to it, like we see, you know, Ted comes back into the office. He's got biscuits again and he's deemed this new tradition.
[00:28:24] Biscuits with the boss. Nope. No, no, no, no biscuits with the boss.
[00:28:27] Oh, sorry. His name is escaping me right now. Hannah Waddington. Thank you so much. Hannah Waddington said, eating those biscuits was some of the best acting I've ever done in my entire life because they were God awful. I'm sure they got better. Well, I hope that they eventually did. Because there is a legitimate recipe for the mouth there now.
[00:29:41] Right.
[00:29:42] Right.
[00:29:43] Yeah.
[00:29:44] So I still want to make.
[00:29:45] I kind of want to make them now too.
[00:29:47] I got to make them vegan though. boxing them up and I love the fact that he keeps them under a bobblehead of the Queen of England. Yes, I know. I love it so much. Because it's him embracing British culture by using a bobblehead of the queen. But I also think that's Ted kind of really admiring Rebecca.
[00:32:05] because Nate to her not Nate to one day to but Ted to her is nothing more than a annoyance he's a he's a prop yeah but she likes her I think we're starting to
[00:32:11] see that crack a little bit she liked it when he serenaded her with Kenny Kenny
[00:32:16] Rogers he like she liked it nobody likes that song but she I like that song
[00:32:23] that's fine it's the gambler it's fine to watch from the beginning again, all these different little ways Ted is kind of cracking characters. And this gets us it for Rebecca. Right. And I, you know, and excuse me to anybody who takes offense to this, but I have noticed
[00:33:41] that, you know, British people, while they are very warm and they're funny and they're
[00:33:46] engaging, they're also very standoffish. He's kind of throwing in his little, like he's kind of throwing in little American nuances in to, in more in references that he makes rather than things that he presents. Yeah. You know, he mentions movies, he mentions actors. You know, he mentions states, you know, places in America that these guys might not know
[00:35:02] about.
[00:35:03] Like he's, he's kind of throwing in his own little American references as he means, but there's a moment there with Ted on the pitch and he's checking his hands. So I have that as my very top note. So go for it. No, you have it. Run with it. So Ted, as we got last week, we see that he, we see the fringes of a panic attack happening
[00:36:22] last week during his first press conference. This, got family problems at home. He's being called a wanker daily. He's got a team that kind of hates him. He's entering a game, his first game with into a sport that he doesn't understand at all. And I think that that is starting to kind of come out a little bit. And it was Wichita. Maybe it was Wichita State. I might have been right. Like he tells them like, just remember what you told yourself then. They're just kids. And you're right. Like it does kind of settle Ted down. And I think it is,
[00:39:00] I think we don't see that again for a little bit now.
[00:39:03] Like we see Ted is kind of touch on this because it was brought up last episode. I was wondering if it was a spoiler or not. Ted is having these issues at home. Like he is separated from his wife. He sees this now in Rebecca because Rebecca is going through a divorce.
[00:40:22] Well, she is divorced.
[00:40:23] She has gone through the divorce,
[00:40:24] but she's still feeling the effects of the divorce.
[00:40:27] So this is gonna help Rebecca. So like he wasn't, he was pretending to kind of just discover everything as he was opening it. He knew already what was in that box when he came in.
[00:41:41] And it's literally a taste of home.
[00:41:43] It is, it's so cute.
[00:41:45] And it's totally by his son, which is wonderful. had the opportunity to take the invitation because I would have to pay my own way, unfortunately. Every year, every year they took a break during COVID, but every year, Jason Sudeikis, Paul Rudd, David Keckner, and God, I forget the fourth actor. Every year they're all actors from Kansas City.
[00:43:01] They all were brought up in improv, like and play games. And it's a huge event. And like I've had David Kekner on my Will-Hom podcast and David Kekner invited me to it. And I have, again, I haven't had the opportunity to accept the invite yet. Well, I'll go. But I fully plan on going to the KSE Binks like one year.
[00:44:21] Yeah, we'll go.
[00:44:22] We'll go together.
[00:44:22] It'll be fun.
[00:44:23] Absolutely.
[00:44:24] But again, like that's sedakus.
[00:44:25] So that's why I brought it up.
[00:44:26] Can I ask you a question?
[00:44:28] Sure. She's a sad panda right now. Yeah. And that's how she makes a panda come across too. Like they have Pissedane fur and I love what's black and white and red all over. A panda that gets near a fucking lion. Yeah. All right. We see a lot, she's just, she is on the attack.
[00:45:41] Like she just doesn't want anybody to get near her.
[00:45:43] She doesn't want anybody to think
[00:45:45] that she's anything other than their boss.
[00:45:47] She's not a leader like she is a sad panda. She is a panda at this moment, even though like she doesn't realize, or maybe she does realize it and she just doesn't want it to come across because she has been hurt. She is a hurt and scorned woman. And for that reason, she has put her defensive walls up.
[00:47:03] And the only person that really genuinely crave personal connection, not sexual personal connection, but just genuine, friendly personal connection. That's what Keely and Ted have in common. And that's why they work so well as a friendship.
[00:48:22] And it's so sad because so many times worrying about, but he's not connected to them yet. Keeley is in a relationship with Jamie, but there's a lot missing from that relationship. It is a very surface relationship, you know. But Ted's marriage is also in trouble.
[00:49:41] True.
[00:49:42] So you have these two people that are missing
[00:49:45] these connections in their life. I kind of touched on this a little bit and that Rebecca gets her light bulb moment in that. She sees this budding friendship between Ted and Keeley and kind of decides to exploit it by jealousy, sending telling Ted that if he wants to get through to Jamie to go to Keeley.
[00:51:06] So she's kind of pushing the two of them I've watched episode two, I didn't even notice it when I watched it a couple days ago. I didn't notice until last night. We get a glimpse of another character who is not introduced yet. When they are walking out onto the pitch as much as Rebecca is the character we haven't even talked about yet this episode. As much as Rebecca is using Higgins. Yeah, to do her dirty work. We're seeing glimpses that Ted has already gotten to Higgins. Yep. Not intentionally.
[00:53:43] Higgins is just kind of like he's taken to Ted.
[00:54:41] What do you want to go with the spoiler stuff? Higgins is going to be a diamond dog.
[00:54:43] It's going to be awesome.
[00:54:44] Higgins is going to be a diamond dog.
[00:54:46] He's already displaying features of being a diamond dog.
[00:54:50] And Rebecca and Sam both get army men in this episode.
[00:54:55] Rebecca and Sam, both get army men.
[00:54:57] And I didn't think about it.
[00:55:00] I knew there's a huge age difference between Rebecca and Sam.
[00:55:05] I didn't realize how much because this is something that's doomed to fail, but we were rooting for it so badly. Yeah, it was like the most uncomfortable rooting for I've ever done.
[00:56:21] And there are, we're going to get a lot throughout season one
[00:56:26] of the hints of what's his connection with Phoebe. I could see that. You know what I mean? And so I think that Roy put the suggestion in the box about the water
[00:57:43] pressure because he's like, because he had softened to the box because it,
[00:58:42] Roy that put that suggestion in the suggestion box. Yeah, I always thought that, but I just,
[00:58:46] just knowing Roy's affinity for his niece
[00:58:51] and now Nate's affinity for his niece
[00:58:53] and this little paper craft project
[00:58:57] probably softened Roy's very hard
[00:59:00] and hard just enough to play Ted's game.
[00:59:04] I love too that we're,
[01:00:04] I love that because she comes back in season three as Phoebe's mother.
[01:00:05] Yeah.
[01:00:07] Is that for Uncle Day?
[01:00:08] That's for Uncle Day.
[01:00:09] I love Uncle Day.
[01:00:10] I can't wait to get to Uncle Day.
[01:00:13] I love every single one of these episodes.
[01:00:13] Yeah. So those.
[01:00:15] And then the birthday cake when he comes in with the birthday cake and he invites
[01:00:19] them down, you know, what's nice is that you see, you know, that Higgins and Rebecca
[01:00:25] eventually become fixtures down in the locker room.
[01:01:25] Yeah, so anyways, those are my little spoilers, but I just couldn't wait to talk about Rebecca and Sam both getting those army men, man.
[01:01:29] Yeah, because it's that little, like you said, it's that little pinch.
[01:01:33] That kind of, it's the beginning of the seasoning of what will come with Rebecca and Sam.
[01:01:39] Yes.
[01:01:40] So I don't really have anything else, spoilery.
[01:01:43] Yep, come on. Now I wouldn't bet on that unless you want to win a butler of money. I like the hey Nate, who?
[01:03:01] Me?
[01:03:02] Yeah.
[01:03:03] Until we get another Nate here, I just need you to assume that you're my default Nate.
[01:03:05] You're my default Nate. the back and forth between beard and Ted when he goes, they call cleat boots. I thought you said the trunk was a boot. Also a boot. Hold on now. If I were to get fired for my job or I'm putting cleats in the trunk of my car, you'd got the boot for putting boots in the boot. And then there's one later to I got that one. Roots and boots.
[01:04:20] Yeah.
[01:04:20] OK, I got one.
[01:04:21] What if I joined forces with a swash buckling cat to play tiny guitars for women
[01:04:25] of the night as we read Alex Haley's most seminal work?
[01:05:22] episodes left to do. But we do have two voicemails, one from our friends, Greg,
[01:05:27] who we mentioned earlier, and of course, one from Steve Brown.
[01:05:31] So let's play the voicemail from our friend, Greg, first.
[01:05:36] And here that is.
[01:05:38] OK, hey, guys, Greg.
[01:05:40] I think I might just do quotes, maybe just some random comments. They just simply call out that this is very, very similar to Margaret Whitman or Whitlock or whatever from Major League. Oh, the manager, the one thing that can let this up is that he's so relentless and nice. All right, I'm going to cut it here because there's just so much awesomeness, but the
[01:07:00] Major League comparison was huge for me in this because that was one of the few R-A-D movies
[01:07:05] I was able to watch when I was a kid.
[01:07:07] That and pretty well. So I'm glad I stuck with it because again it became one of my favorite shows. Right. Of all time. So, but I absolutely get the reference of Major League. And I think my first R-rated movie, I think was total recall. No, that was the first one I was allowed to see in theaters. Oh, RoboCop 2. I also watched RoboCop 2. I watched a number of R-rated movies when I was a kid, mainly because I was told I wasn't
[01:08:23] allowed to.
[01:08:24] Well, so I did it anyway.
[01:08:26] All of us children of the crunch that issues made on the channel. Yeah, I mean, it's unheard of to this day. It's like, it's not really a thing anymore that we would walk home from school and come home to an empty house. And we would be there for a few hours before parents came home. Oh, yeah. And you knew that you had to be home
[01:09:42] when the lights came on outside. If the street lights came on, you were late.
[01:10:44] Well, it's a rite of passage thing, you know, it sucks, but it is. It's a rite of passage thing.
[01:10:45] But yeah, I mean, it's just funny to me that like whenever, and whenever I
[01:10:50] hear people that are around our age and they're talking about their childhood
[01:10:53] or whatever, it just, it makes me feel comfortable knowing that I'm not the
[01:10:57] only kid that came home to working parents, like no parents were home.
[01:11:02] You know, so it's nice.
[01:11:03] That's all I'm saying.
[01:11:04] Cause I know I'm going to tell my. I'm sorry. The only 30 minute episodes was still there's so much great stuff in this. Oh, and the be a goldfish is right here.
[01:12:20] Oh, hey, I just saw the credit.
[01:12:22] This was dirt and dry Zach Raff, which I know he's involved with.
[01:12:25] Yeah, the whole series.
[01:12:27] What does AFC stand for? of Hannah trying to tear down Ted with his kiwi. I'm done. Association Football Club is AFC. Thank you, I didn't know. Yeah, that's what that stands for in the Premier League.
[01:13:44] I had one other note on Steve's voicemail and I already forgot what it was
[01:13:45] because I was trying not to forget Association Football Club.
[01:13:47] Hey, thank you so much, Steve, send it to us at feedback at revisited pod.com. Any final notes before we wrap this up? No, just please, please leave us some feedback. Cause it's fun. I like feedback. I do too. I love hearing people's thoughts on the show.
[01:15:00] And I know you have them.
[01:15:03] So cool.
[01:15:05] So with that being said, didn't know before Rebecca told me that they do have piss stain for. That's because I'm looking at facts and it says that pandas sometimes do handstands when they pee. It says sometimes to mark their scent,
[01:16:20] pandas climb a tree backwards with their hind feet until they're in full
[01:16:25] handstand upside down, enabling them to leave their scent higher up.
